Rumours & Hearsay
Most rumours we see can be categorised into the following types:
- Harmless speculation about things in the public domain, or things which don't impact anyone in particular.
- Rumours about people's personal lives, business dealings, health status, etc.
- Rumours about unspecified people doing unspecified things, for example, "I know that certain people in a certain profession are doing something dodgy".
- Rumours about the workings, motivations or agendas of a particular organisation.
We only allow the first type to be posted here. Please restrict the contents of your messages to verifiable information which is in the public domain, or to information which can be verified by the appropriate person (you must quote your source).
You must obtain written permission and forward it to us before posting any personal information.
In the case of legal proceedings, only publicly-released material may be reported.
It's really not helpful to post vague references to improper conduct and it's very rare for this type of rumour to be backed up with credible evidence. In our opinion these rumours serve no constructive purpose and their only effect is to bring the industry into disrepute. If you feel the need to expose some wrong-doing, there are appropriate channels to go through. Once you've done this you may be able to post the results here.
Important: This rule is not limited to malicious rumours. Often people post messages which they hope will be helpful, for example, an update on an injured person's condition. Because this information is often incorrect, we have to take a strict approach and ask that you verify any such information and quote your source. |
