Rules & Policies
Edited & Deleted Messages
This page explains why your message has been edited or deleted.
First of all, has your message really been deleted? If it was posted in the wrong place it may have been moved. Also double-check the thread you're looking in -- did you really post the message there, or might it have been somewhere else?
If it has been deleted, it will be for one of these reasons:
- Your message breached our forum rules. If you're used to posting messages in uncontrolled forums or newsgroups, you will find that our rules are more strict.
- Your message was a reply to another message which has been deleted. For various reasons, when a message is removed any replies must also be removed.
- Your message was continuing a topic which has been closed.
- Your message was an accidental posting with no content.
- Your message was considered counter-productive to worthwhile discussion.
Please note: We deal with many messages which are "borderline" and we often have to make judgement calls. We're confident that we're usually consistent but we acknowledge that there will be inconsistencies from time to time. We ask you to understand that this is inevitable, given the huge number of messages we deal with.
Once upon a time we used to email the author of every edited message and explain our reasons. Unfortunately we are no longer able to do this due to the volume of messages we deal with. We really are sorry about this but if you want to understand what you can and can't post you'll need to read the rules and figure it out for yourself.
If your message has been edited or deleted, please DO NOT post a message in the forum asking why or complaining about it. This is pointless and such messages will be removed.
One more point: Unregistered users are treated far more strictly than registered users!
