Information regarding abandonment of Te Rapa Sunday 3 June

 

Changes/Additions to Trentham and Te Rapa Saturday 9 June

Due to today’s abandonment of the Auckland RC meeting at Te Rapa after Race 2 the following changes have been made to programmes going forward:

Waikato RC at Te Rapa on Saturday 9 June:

The Listed SsangYong Auckland Futurity Stakes (2YO 1400m) will be transferred to this meeting. Nominations close on Tuesday 5 June at 12 noon. The field limits for this meeting will be limited to 12 runners due to a required running rail move.

Wellington RC at Trentham on Saturday 9 June:

The two Prestige Jump Races, K S Browne Hurdle and McGregor Grant Steeplechase, due to be run at Te Rapa on Sunday 3 June have been transferred to this meeting. Nominations for these races close on Tuesday 5 June at 12 noon. The original advertised jump races for this meeting will now be a Mdn Hurdle and Steeplechase over 2500m and 4000m respectively.

Makes you wonder about what is going on at Te Rapa. 
They called for Neil Treweeks head a few years ago when on their precious Group 1 day some horses had to scout wide for better ground. Neil cant control the rain! Yet yesterday in the midst of winter we cant even get a surface right! Sand getting flicked back in copious amounts??!!! Really???!!! What instructions has the new caretaker had to obey to get to this farcical surface?

The rain?, that f**k up was caused by the course manager overwatering and leaving the irrigation on!, not the rain!

Unfortunately the track is in very bad shape and the sand addition was a patch up job and it hasnt worked, a tired track that needs some serious assistance!, not attempted patch up jobs.

Te Rapa has used "sand-carpeting". Some talk that they used the wrong grain of sand when topping-up recently?

Poor surface, extended margins, fast lanes, and very much a horses for courses track. 

And then look at what we are dealt today at Avondale? Seriously, should we be racing at this time of year?

It is not horse racing, it is borderline barbaric

I was talking to a rider recently about the sand kick back at Te Rapa who told me it F###in hurts. What does this do to horse confidence when clumps are hurled back into there heads?

Could explain the front runners bias there?

For all it's foibles , it is Winter Racing in NZ and more so lets address the Elephant in the room,

And that is NZ Racing and such is what you see is what you get.

Is this preferable to going to Ruakaka or Te Rapa every alternate week, mixed in with Ellerslie , Waipa and Te Teko and have no issues hanging my heart on Avondale, personally agree it has more to offer than flittering all over the North Island when Avondale is right on the back door of everywhere and not impossible to access

Chris there are multiple under used courses in the upper/central NI that could take more meetings particularly industry days that would give some of the premier tracks a rest and at the same time potentially revitalise some of those venues it can't be any worse than the consolidation/neglect of tracks through dates etc that has got the industry to this point, that has been shown to have worked wonders on numerous occasions to date... on no wait a minute.

NZ tracks are diabolical. They cannot handle the current workload, and/or are not maintained sufficiently. There is not one track in NZ that can comfortably handle more than 20 meetings a year!

Why wouldn't you sell the Pukekohe, and build a Ruakaka-type track at Waiuku or Port Waikato?
