Huey 2,037 Report post Posted May 2, 2018 When Overtheriver scored his 19th win in the Marlborough Cup on Sunday it got me thinking there are some rather handy Broodmares about in NZ that don't seem to get the Kudos they deserve, for whatever reason perhaps either they aren't fashionably bred or haven't been to fashionable stallions. Have a look at the Dam of Overtheriver performance at stud: QUALITY EYES ( By Danzero ex Close your Eyes By Geiger Counter) KRASE (Ekraar) - 11 wins including an Australian Steeple OVERTHERIVER (Mettre En Jeu) - 19 wins to date including several country cups LA FILLE EN JEU (Mettre En Jeu) - 9 wins to date including a G3 & Listed race PETITE EN JEU (Mettre En Jeu) - 5 wins to date Currently in foal to Unusual Suspect Any others anyone can think of? La Zip 468 Report post Posted May 4, 2018 Yes Huey you’ve highlighted the great divide in modern day racing....those breeders that keep producing good racehorses by seemingly unfashionable sires...and are given little kudos...and then we have those who can’t shut up about the next big thing and who is foal to that stallion. I fear we have lost sight of why we do it..to breed a winning racehorse...the wheels of generational change are turning and I’m not sure I like the new direction.... bazach 133 Report post Posted May 5, 2018 Miss Distinction - by Bletchencore, was a one race winner herself, but has left a couple of great stakes winning offspring by less high profile sires, Miss Jessie Jay by Spectacular Phantom, and Gee I Jane by Jahafil. She also produced The Silencer Sir by Istadaad to win nine races, plus a number of other minor winners. She was born in 1991 and had her last foal, a Super Easy colt, in 2014. Belinda 143 Report post Posted May 12, 2018 And these lovely mares have mostly left winners by less than "desirable" (certainly in the sale ring) sires.
