Stop the Jewels moving

Of course it should be run at Addington as it is the best track in NZ for racing and viewing unquestionably!

Change the distance to 1950m as the mile start is a shocker!

At the end of the day most of the best horses are from Canterbury.

If you had a good young horse that has qualified for the jewels from Canterbury would you really be keen to send your horse to Cambridge for a 1.53 minute race and be an also ran.

Mile racing is boring especially when the AllStars are in there in force!

It will die next season if raced over 1950 at Addington. All just greed

I don't see it as greed. I see it as resuscitation. Cambridge every second year is especially uninviting, but even Ashburton every alternate year doesn't seem to generate the interest it once did. The Aussie raiders have never turned up in numbers, and some of the top NZ contenders seem to be skipping it in the last season or two. It needs a CTRL ALT DELETE. A reboot.

Same old same old Brodie. You really need counseling about your negative preoccupation with All Stars team.

Fart Too Much, telling it the way it is, the Jewels are a bore nowadays as the money is not shared around enough.

You will find that there will be a lot of Canterbury qualified horses won’t be bothered travelling to Cambridge to compete for one short race at the end of the season, to be flogged and flatten their horse, for appearance money.

Move the Jewels to Addington over 1950metres as the mile racing is so boring and doesn’t give all horses a chance if they draw bad

Keep up the negative stuff, its your modis opperandi.

FYG the Jewels have always had full fields since day 1 and this year will be no different. Once again you must have been mislead by those you associate with - journeymen trainers

Telling it the way it is Fart Too Much!

Harness Racing is slowly dieing, going by the decreasing turnover and oncourse turnout.

New people are not be brought into the industry, unless you can prove otherwise Mr Positivity!

I don't think the decline in the sport/industry can be attributed to the Harness Jewels day.

Many connections look forward to being involved.

It costs nothing to enter ,and horses get to register a good time which may assist their future value ,and age group racing opportunities continue on thru the winter for others.

Many horses chase a spot in the Jewels so there are benefits too in the weeks leading up.

When the Jewels started it was envisaged the provinces would host the day and it would be shared...that dream faded when it was obviously decided the success of the day meant many areas not suited to hosting and better to let Ashvegas and Cambridge have the certainty to improve facilities etc.

Full fields maybe. But they're certainly not full of the top 12 of their year anymore. If you've got a runner still up at that time of the season you can just about guarantee you'll make the final field. Some runners were probably only ranked at the tail end of the top 50 a couple,of months out. Quality over quantity any day of the week. And I mean week. Not weak. As some recent Jewels fields have been.

Agree. If the authorities are going to stick with Cambridge I believe the fields should be reduced to six to eight runners then all horses will have a chance which is not the case now.

Perhaps they could aportion 1K of the stake to the race and the remaining raffled amongst the starters.

Happy to hear you views and thoughts Brod as this probably needs a little more work.

By " new people" what are you referring to. Administrator's, Punters, Trainers, Drivers, Owners??????.

A rather sweeping statement.

I can assure you there are plenty of people out there willing to get into the Harness game. Our two syndicates are about to be extended into a  third one for example.

Read Tasman Mans post again, some very pertinent points were made.

Eclipse Me ran last in her attempt at Cambridge Jewels . She draw wide and found herself 3 wide mainly,  was gone by the 500m Mark. She's now running 1:53's at Yonkers. Can't wait to see her at the Meadowlamds, she will be quicker.

Punters and owners!

If we have them then there will be racing.

Without having owners there won’t be any horses and without the horses we have no punters!

The admin stAff and trainers are agiven as they are paid, the first two are the ones that are putting their money up!

Don't hold your breath waiting for her to race at meadowlands.

I think the Jewels should be 1700 metres at Cambridge, and start at the top of the straight at Ashburton, which is about 1800 metres.  Do not shift to Alex Park and Addington.  My good friends have a two yearly get together at Ashburton for a huge day of punting,  picnic food,  drinking (big) and catching up with all that has happened over the past two years.  Neither Addington nor Alex Park are conducive to that sort of fun activity.

Alter Addington track to suit a better mile start point, Menangle run a lot of miles and they do OK, whats more, from an owners point of view, you can run again next week, cannot do that after a 2600 gut buster, also put the 120 horses in 12 races, not ten, non stop entertainment and fast action.

Menangle Mile Racing is shockingly boring even though it is on a big track.

2600metre  races at Addington are probably no more of a gut buster than a mile!

Punters will desert investing at Addington if they had mile racing!
