Ohokaman 5,842 Report post Posted February 27, 2018 Interesting to see how this played out today. Simon Bridges elected Leader with Paula Bennett as Deputy. My take was this : They needed a fresh face, a new look and there were several very good candidates. Collins and Joyce were "tainted" and Mitchell was just dreaming. Amy Adams is a highly intelligent and very capable Minister. But to be frank, she is lacking in the attractiveness stakes. I can imagine the National gurus were thinking about the next election billboards with her and Ardern and muttering " Yeah...Na...." Harsh but true. Ergo, the handsome Maori legal eagle fella from the fastest growing region in NZ, gets the nod. Wonder how many are already thinking about a Maori PM.....??? Bennett as Deputy was a surprise. No doubt capable, but has been divisive in the past so remains to be seen whether they have pulled the right rein there. They will be a strong opposition for all that and it will be interesting to see them put the pressure on our untested little petal of a PM... I imagine one of Bridges first questions might be " Why did Northland get so much funding...? " For Cultural Centres FFS..... She certainly would take no prisoners Blokey, but I guess the historical stuff counted against her. I can understand the thinking.
