Chris Wood 1,577 Report post Posted February 13, 2018 The weather will have the major bearing on proceedings Pete, so let’s just wait until 7.30 in the morning and see if the meeting proceeds. army

rdytdy 5,341 Report post Posted February 13, 2018 1 hour ago, Aaron Bidlake said: They're off. Correct Abandoned. Just back from the track. Stipes Brady Jones and Warwick Robinson inspected. The track is waterlogged. 100mils over last few days with 25mils in a downpour today with forecast of another 30mils to come. Visible surface water on the inside tracks. I think there were already 60 scratchings 1 day out. I don't think anyone in the Waikato will be surprised. It has fair bucketed down in the past couple of days. I agree , and i wasnt bagging the club at all, even though some people have taken it that way; its a great place and I just meant that the bad luck seems to be everlasting for these poor guys.No meeting for months and then shit loads of rain. Shame they cant have a meeting in a few days. Horses need to race .

Insider 3,953 Report post Posted February 13, 2018 With all this rain, and no racing Te Aroha should have a fantastic surface for the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders (Group 1) meeting later on. Surely it can’t keep rain in the north? Te Aroha would no doubt love to have their most important meeting back home after last years disappointment of racing at Te Rapa. Trump 2,741 Report post Posted February 13, 2018 A better track too with its beautiful long and wide straight. Then there's the view of the Kaimai Range and the Palm trees along the drive in. Where did they get those Palm Trees ?
Trump 2,741 Report post Posted February 13, 2018 If it's a front runners track then it really underpins how good that Mercedes horse was - he started (I think) 3 times on the track for 3 wins and came from last to win 2 of them! Guest 2Admin2 Report post Posted February 13, 2018 3 hours ago, poundforpound said: Front runners track Trump, no camber across the top turn so you can’t attack wide, and if you do they corner on the wrong leg and can’t accelerate. I don’t know much about the history of Te Aroha ( come in Ted ) but I suspect it’s born of the local farmers wish to have somewhere to call home for racing, back in the days when every farmer seemed to breed one or two every year. My well documented position on this track is that whilst the club has every right to race there it’s not relevant to modern racing, for two reasons primarily, one being the lack of a decent camber, the second, and more important, reason being that the racing surface seems to be clay or mud ( I’m sure someone will have a more scientific description ) and it’s either a swamp or it’s baked rock hard. It’s certainly not a G1 venue for my money. I thought for a moment there you were describing Ellerslie......."it's either a swamp or baked rock hard"...... Fact is Ellerslie will be around for a lot longer than many of these type of tracks simply because of the population around it,Racing needs to tap into this population source in some way to encourage new blood to get involved through marketing and other initiatives and Auckland has by the far the biggest pool to go to. Just like increased stakes there is no correlation between population size vs on course participation. If what you say is correct about Ellerslies longevity then it is an albatross around the industry's neck. To fix the track may well be impossible given the courses topography. As it is it is closed for a quarter of the year.

Dont agree it is much easier to pull from a large population source rather than a small country town... old days are gone in the past it may have been but times change.... yes it may cost money to fix but it needs to be there.
