Anyone know if he has negotiated a deal for racing similar to the last time he formed a government with Labour.?

Some administrators seemed to think there would be something similar in the pipeline but it seems if there is no one is talking about it.

Don’t let facts get in the way of a good story.

After Winston agreed to buddy up to Helen Clark back in 2006 one of his bottom lines was a reform to the Duty being imposed on racing turnover. There was bipartison support at this time as Labour conferred with National who had no opposition to the change. It amounted to approx $34m a year.Although never officially published the saving was shared 3 ways. A third went into better dividends - the take out rate was lowered. A third went into industry distribution to the code bodies. The remainder went into the NZRB’s coffers.

Where is it all today.....but a memory.

Read this week’s Informant and Brian de Lore’s opinion piece on page 10.

The NZRB,for the 1st time in its history, is having to go $5m into debt to fund industry distributions.

The NZRB have signed up for a deal with Paddy Power. Prior to signing a NZTR report, completed by Deloitte, said that outsourcing this piece of work - sports/fob - versus going the Paddy Power route, would have saved $280m over the next 4 years. Ego’s got in the way of the NZRB making a more rational decision according to de Lore’s article.

Winston?

He has a passion to see racing do well however he’s been handed up a piece of slobbery gook and expected to catch it in one hand.

The Board structure, the internal structure and cost of the NZRB and the Racing Act itself have sent this industry one step forward and five steps backwards since Winston first did his best by boosting the returns by $30m + per annum.
