We're Doomed 4,868 Report post Posted December 20, 2017 This weekend's Manawatu Challenge Stakes is surely another very weak group II race. They only got the 8 currently in the field by leaving noms open and now it doesn't even have Kawi to add some interest. Surely some of these races must get down graded. In all probability the Timaru Cup in a week or so will have a much better field and it isn't even a group race. elbow and gary1
jeepers 276 Report post Posted December 20, 2017 It would be only a matter of time before many of NZ's Group races are down graded such is the state of racing. It is hoped that something is done THIS season left, before it is too late. There is no doubt the better horses that come to Aust can hold their own here but they are becoming fewer and far between. I have noted also that a number of NZ broodmares are being sent to Aust to be bred.

Insider 3,961 Report post Posted December 21, 2017 And those horses whether sired by a NZ or Aust based sire, will still win a much higher percentage of the Group One’s in Australia relative to the percentage of runners involved. Tauhei Notts 1,413 Report post Posted December 21, 2017 The fifth favourite in a Group Two event is a six year old mare with total lifetime earnings of, get this, $71,960. This is a total joke of a Group Two rating.
