Bruce M 143 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Good to see the Southland clubs getting the best out of the new rating system. They routinely split the maidens based on ratings...have the horse population to stage narrow-banded races ...and this week they've programmed this. For once the lower rated one win horses won't have to face winners of multiple races. john legend
john legend 744 Report post Posted October 31, 2017 latest big bands defeat the purpose so good on Southland. We just raced in a 57 to 85 band race at Palmerston north . stupid. thats under old system putting c3s up against c7 and c8s. Dont point out that lower rated horses ran 2 and 3. as it should be a system where like with like applies. It doesnt help when a god like person (anonymous)rulesonly 8 races will be run... why? except for stake costs for ameeting same for 8 or 9. If analysis done the diff in cost would be marginal . There are people running racing with no understanding the effects poor decision making has on players in the industry. Maybe Winston and Jacinda might help

Be careful what you wish for John!

Good thing Bill didn"t get back in as he would have a encouraged the importation of more overseas horses who would have been happy to race for smaller stakes, while buying up all the stables. The reason for that rating spread of 57 to 85 race at manawatu is because they don't,nor probably ever will have enough horses progressing or hanging around to make up the fields in those higher grades in the north island. Also imagine if you owned a horse like Buster Brady.Hes a very good horse but has only won the 8 races, yet his only oppurtunities are to run in races against the likes of lazarus and co. By the time hes able to get away from them he will have had the heart raced out of him. Happy Sunrise

john legend 744 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 its good to see people in trotting have good sense of humour. you certainly need it standing under a cloudburst/thunder/ lighning at manawatu just before race 8. !with clerk of course frantically blowing a whistle and not one horse heading out of the stables ! LOL. (ps Id play in Jacindas band... )
tim vince 985 Report post Posted November 2, 2017 standing starts if the rating band goes over 10 points- I can hear the applause- or boos john legend
john legend 744 Report post Posted November 4, 2017 It is a system with many tighter class trotters so why not as Tim says for a big range a handicap standing start. I wonder if good ideas suggested to clubs to help trainers are ever canvassed with the people whose livelihoods depend on such matters. Like Buster Brady often grass track wins are lower earners and lower prestige cf. addington/cambridge/ auckland. so could attract a rating win concession .say a 3 to 4 point off the usual 8 could be worthwhile for the grass trackers.
