We all know it wasn't Mr Reekies best work but there are other shockers by pros and yet no warnings or anything.

The Jonny Cox drive on Ohoka Johnny was just as bad as the Reekie drive. Should go for a long holiday after that effort tonight.

After hearing the explanation tendered by Mr Reekie Stewards issued him a charge under Rule 869(3)(g) in that he drove in a manner capable of diminishing ZAKSPATROL's chance of winning the race.

How often do you see a driver choosing to go and be parked 3 wide?

Diminished? Too bloody right.

Cox is going for a skate if there is consistency.

What a drive! He is a professional, so should know better, much better. If an amateur did this they would be close to getting a life sentence.

You fellas are incredible. Jonny is a good horseman and I would be picking that the horse was hitting the footrests and over racing.

Innocent until proven guilty!

Yes that was where Reekie went wrong. Did not pull out a good enough excuse when questioned. He should have used the old "was hitting the footrest" excuse!

The thing is that punters offload on horses in good faith in that their horse is to be given every chance!

I can't beleive that professional trainers/ drivers allow their horse out on the track with a sulky that is not correct for the horse.

The excuse that the horse is hitting the cart or wheels is a shocker and clearly it is faulty gear being put behind the horse by someone!

Surely someone should be fined at the least as the owner and punter are being shafted big time!

OHOKA JOHNNY - taken forwards in the early stages to race in a prominent position. Taken three wide near the 1850 metres and made an unsuccessful attempt for the front having to race wide until near the 1300 metres. When questioned regarding this driver J Cox explained that on each occasion he had attempted to restrain his gelding the horse began to strike the sulky wheels causing it to further over-race. This was evident on Stewards films. Trainer T Bagrie advised he had used a different sulky set up to which he had last used at the trials and it was his intention to try the gelding in a longer sulky.

The trainer should be fined for incompetence, negligence or lack of due diligence. Did the stewards ask WHY he changed the set up of the sulky? Don't you think you would try out the new set up before going in a race?

As for the stipes protecting the integrity of the sport, I have no faith in what they say or do anymore.

It is all just a big fucking joke.

Wouldn't this require more work on the part of the stewards ?

Given the explanation provided and watching the film I don't think any fault can really be attributed to the drivers.Jessica young was trying to pull back so you can understand young purdon thinking he would get the front when he was almost there and then if coxs horse began striking the footrests, then  it was safer for him to not restrain his horse, If a horse is hitting the footrests then restraining them only takes their body a little closer to what you are trying to avoid hitting. Just a set of circumstances with reasonable explanations as to why.    Its also a bit hard to blame the  trainer as horses, especially those with little raceday experience, are still learning and sometimes react differently under race conditions. They are still learning as is the trainer about the way they may react to certain situations.

Sure would. It takes an enormous of effort to formulate a few simple questions in your brain when you are not that intelligent.

Nice excuse. Raymond Reekie is an amateur, didn't seem to stop them throwing the book at him.

It's all bullshit.

I'm off to play the pokies from now on.

The trainers or drivers always spit out this thing about the horse hitting the sulky.

Horses reacting differently under race conditions.

FFS, the horses have been to the trials and used a cart there so how is the races any different?

The trainers know where it's horse puts its feet!

Blatant rubbish that punters and owners should have to accept this as being ok!'!!!!

Wasn't necessarily talking about Ohoka Johnny, but this comment from drivers happens too regularly doesn't it?

Interesting aside when Tiger Tara added a boring pole within 30 seconds of the start of the Cup. I know it's not identifiable but, shit, he's been running left handed since he went to Aussie and going under 1:52 MR so how does that work. Great old game ain't it.
