Who employs English Emily from Trackside?

Is this another sign of things to come - Emily doing sideline comments for the Tasman vs Wellington rugby game?

Another bright idea from Pickles probably. Why they think any Sports fan would take any notice beats me.....

It sounds like she is reading from a racebook!  .....comes in off the ballot (bench) carrying 96kgs.  Was second in the Nelson Boys WFA X-country.

She's just another attention-seeking wannabe. Present on Trackside, date/marry a high-profile jockey, infiltrate TV rugby coverage. If she played in a netball team as a kid she would have wanted to be the captain, shoot all the goals, and take the ball home after the game.  It's all about me, me, me ....

I don't think that is very fair Cunnamulla without knowing whether she was told to do that game or not. Seeing Sky TV is the only TV channel we can see the races on they may have some say in who does what, and told her to go there. She might well have hated the job.

She seems a pretty knowledgable(racing) and decent person but it is all part of the PC bullshit trying to sanitise rugby and league by having token female presence on the shows. Just like the NRL panels which now have at least one female/show, commenting on players, tactics, coaches etc although they never disclose which NRL clubs they (the females) played for. Pretty cynical behaviour by the codes IMO.

Imagine Mexted and Marshall doing netball commentaries. No need I guess because none of the netballers have been caught rooting in disabled toilets or "playing away from the family home".

I think personal criticism of these young ladies is out of line.

Females are involved in more and more coverage and presentation of Racing ,league and rugby and I'm all for it.

Females make up a decent % of the audience and participants in these sports ,so its common sense to have them heavily involved in the media.

I'd rather have a 'cadet' or new female presenter on panels and on sideline......dunno how much rugby Ian Smith played and I'm tired of John Kirwan [ a great AB but shonky coach]  and JMarshall [a very good AB] but boy does he talk and go on e.g. continually rubbishing Argies who played with great spirit and skill while the AB's chip kicked aimlessly...this got so bad he was obviously told off near the end and retracted and gave the Argies a bit of praise.

In fact I'd rate the female presenters comments definitely the equal of many of the comments I read on Racecafe !

We need more of them IMO.

.The panel on sky after the all blacks Argentina game had 2 woman giving their comments melody robinson and some lady with an unpronounceable name that looked like she had run face first into the back of a bus......the male experts comments were bad enough, but the women were just cringe worthy, pure tokenism...

Because her appearance is all that counts right

No it doesn't,  just the cliché'd comments, its bad enough when the blokes do it. I don't know one female that gets sky just to get it for sport, I'm sure there is the odd one. They want all the same trimmings and pay etc when it comes to rugby, but looking at the crowds at the women's world cup they will never have enough interest to achieve it. I cant wait for professional men's netball to start, I sure it would be another string to sonny bills bow!

Sky sport would be insolvent without men's sport. Look at the crap tennis served up by "base-lining" women at the recent US Open---paid the same money as men for that rubbish. Mercifully only best of 3 sets. Compare it to the Federer/delPotro and Nadal/del Potro matches and tell me there is not reverse discrimination. Even the porn actresses get paid better.

Men and women are DIFFERENT (mentally and physically), despite what the rainbow crowd would have us believe, and we all have abilities and deficiencies. So don't try to formulate a construct that we are all equal.

Watched that "sex tapes" over the weekend...bloody good movie, and laugh,

for "normal"...Hetrosexuals...oops is that politically incorrect speak, these days?

Anyway, I reckon that Sheila,(oops, lady) on horseback in OZ, pre-race (name escapes me), does a good job !

pulls up the odd good value winner and enlightens viewers to her un-biased opinion on a horses "look" (in the coat)

Bit tough on Emily you lot, surely it's the person who appointed her to the task you should be focusing your criticism on.

You can hardly blame Emily for doing whatever she's rostered to do, and besides, if you find it so insufferable how do you think "real" racing people find Trackside's coverage of racing, and we don't complain.

The other subject of curious interest is those who actually watch Wellington v. Tasman, seriously, don't you have a life ? Next thing you'll be admitting to watching Auckland play or understanding Labour's tax policy.

Or watching the Warriors.....

Fair comment though. But what is she supposed to be doing...encouraging females to have a bet..? And that presumes any are watching in the first place. A bit of "culture" amongst the boofheads...?? Eye candy for the plebs..?? The Australians use presenters who have played the game, whatever it is, so they have some credibility amongst the viewers/punters. Don't see any connection here from any view point.

As I said, Pickles is trying to increase female presenter involvement...we had Countdown Cassie giving us tips the other day....

Chevy, in AUS the largest participant sport is netball, and the sponsors got on board very quickly, don't underestimate the power of women, if women withdrew from racing it would collapse overnight, here and across the ditch.

Would NEVER underestimate the power of women and racing is a precinct where women perform superbly and seem in most cases to have a natural affinity with the noble beast.

Netball may well be the largest participant sport in Aus but it does not sustain the viability of viewer media--that is AFL and NRL.

Through junior grades in NZ I believe football is now the biggest (possibly netball) but it will never usurp the position of rugby as the revenue generator.

100% right chevey I'd say 95%/5% split on men v women watching sport....LA zip is right though re racing the ladies contribute a hell of lot to the industry, however I don't see many women in the tab punting when I go in, in fact I don't see any(I guess that makes them smarter than the men )

GOOD POINTS...JUST ABOUT WORTH A POST OF ITS OWN...

WOMAN IN RACING V WAGERING / T.A.B VISITS.

Is it just the Dingy atmosphere of the TAB these days?...even I do an a/c deposit, hit and run...

on course is ok / could be / should be, further promoted, IMHO.

The increasing presence of women on TV rugby shows is down totally to the findings of the Respect and Responsibility Review, commissioned out of concern for the attitudes that exist towards women within rugby, so get used to it.  If the women's comments are not up to it, hopefully they will find women who can comment with credibility, no different to the situation with the men.

I find the presence of women who are career journos firstly, in Rugby League, to be refreshing.  After all the male players that they get are first and foremost rugby league players, very few are up to TV presenting standard, although the NRL has been blessed with quite a few who are very good, but it does not follow that they are all good.

I think you will probably find that the NRL also has an image problem with it's attitudes towards women, hence also the increasing presence of women on TV.

Good example of someone who has played the game at the top level, but has a brain dead personality as a presenter, Simon Doull

Doully is certainly not the worst presenter around. Very knowledgeable about his own game. Doesn't mind a punt either....;)

And to illustrate yet further, that just because you played the game at the top level, it does not follow that you can be a good TV presenter.

Good old Danny Morrison, great fast bowler, who will ever forget his 7 wickets against Aus, but tries too hard as a presenter, and just comes across as cheesy and painful, gives us Bumble Lloyd any day

But they're all ex cricketers, and they all speak with authority.
