Peter Harrop 226 Report post Posted August 22, 2017 Was reading an article about the decline in Sky Subscriptions over the past 12 months (apparently they have lost 38,000 subscribers against a backdrop of a rapidly increasing population), with the view that it can only get worse as there are no World Cups or extremely high rating sports events in the pipeline after the completion of the Lions tour. Wonder if a return to Free to Air broadcasting is in consideration? Do you think this would be a good move? I tend to think so. hedley 1,900 Report post Posted August 22, 2017 ..Absolutely it'd be a good move for NZ Racings, but i don't think SKY would be supportive loosing valuble numbers. I doubt our executives would push for it either..as their moves are always against turnovers and participations, following a globalist agenda instead of a nationalist best interest one porky

I could up until about 6 months ago when something went amiss. TAB said it was a Samsung issue. Samsung said nothing had changed and that if I was watching previously and I couldn't now it was a TAB watch and bet issue. Insider 3,941 Report post Posted August 22, 2017 NZRB will review it when the contract is up. I think that John Allen would like to reverse the situation (reading between the lines) when I questioned him on the subject 12 months ago. However when push comes to shove, I guarantee the offer from Sky will prove too lucrative to turn it down given how their customer base is declining. I hope that I am wrong and we go back to free to air. Slim Dusty

Ours is an LG and less than a year old - so it is not a Samsung issue. TAB bullshitting again!
Hacko 123 Report post Posted August 23, 2017 Leave it with Sky TV. I don't have Sky so by it not being on Free TV it has saved me plenty. I've gotten use to not being able to watch racing, except occasionally on Watch & Bet.
Tauhei Notts 1,403 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 I arrived home yesterday with a sore arse from sitting so long in the car. From Tauhei we went to Reefton on Tuesday, Wyndham trots on Thursday and Trentham for Cup Day on the Saturday. We stayed at "doss houses" that call themselves motels. None of them had access to Trackside, as the Sky charges are far too high for motels. That is not a good advertisement for our industry. Tom and his mates work their guts out for Reefton. Good on them. I have minor share in a 3 year old pacer that had his first win at Wyndham. He sat parked then went away, untouched, to win by 4 lengths and ran 2m 56 for the 2400 metres. Last time I had a share in a horse with that much promise was a stakes placed Faltaat filly 17 years ago. I was saddened by the over zealous security guards and the hordes of police at Trentham. Don't they have any serious crime in the Hutt Valley? I did see a sight that I have never ever seen in any racecourse bar, or any other bar, in my life. There was a pretty young thing, aged 18 to 24 or so, with her back to me in a tidy short dress covering a tidy bottom. Then her friend lifted up her dress and I noticed two delightful cheeks staring at me; she had G String panties. I commented to her that I had noticed that she had a dress with delightful colours. Others in her group laughed out loud as it was obvious I was taking the piss. This was just after The Cup so the grog level had got up a bit by then. Shad 1,554 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Crickey tauhei, you have had more travels than Gulliver, i bet it was all worth to see your horse win, very exciting prospect by the sound of it, and good luck, you just can't beat those small meetings with the friendly hospitality and people you meet along the way, grassroots racing at its best. I had been looking at the Sire just last week, very impressive race history. Looks like you might have a good one there, the time was the quickest on the day by a fair margin.... Tauhei Notts 1,403 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Ohokaman, yes it was the Sportswriter GELDING. He was cut after those two below par efforts as a two year old. The syndicate members did not tell me he was that good. BUT when you have been in the racing game as long as me you know that a superlative performance in dunce class can get you over excited. His next effort will be very very interesting. The Faltaat filly I alluded to was Gem Dancer. She won her first three races by an aggregate 13 lengths! Peter R S 411 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Nice description Tauhei of your past week! I hope your expectations (hopes) are realised with your pacer. My wife and I visited Trentham (we are both members) after the early races, mainly to watch Kawi and Sampson in their races and to experience a wee bit of Cup Day. We are both over 60, well enough dressed, and the handbag was searched and I was told to raise my hat on the way in! Christ knows what I could have hidden in there eh?
