Mid-week Breeding Quiz

Recommended Posts

A little brain-teaser for those who know their breeding. Will find something in the draw among the Arrowfield paraphernalia for the winner (most answers correct).

1. There have been 6 Danzig-line stallions who were crowned NZ Champion Sire of 2YOS - name them ?

2. Since 1974 9 different stallions have been named Champion NZ Sire of Broodmares more than once - Centaine, Zabeel, Sir Tristram, Noble Bijou, Mellay & Le Filou are 6. Name the other 3 ?

3. In the last 50 years only two stallions have sired more than one winner of the WRC Telegraph Handicap - name them and their progeny which won the race ?

4. Which runner-up in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes left an Auckland Cup winner. Name both horses ?

5. Two parts to this - name the horse and his sire

     i) This horse won the Concorde Handicap at Avondale and ran placings in both the ARC Railway and Easter Handicaps - who was he ?

ii) Who was the sire of the horse in the first part of this question ? Here's a clue: After his spell at stud in the Waikato, PJ (yes me) sold this stallion, who had been raced by a famous pop star in his racing days, back overseas.

6. Finally what connection did the sires who were the answers to questions 4 & 5 ii) have with each other ?

and a fun question to finish off -

What was the TAB double at the corresponding (to this weekend) Manawatu Hunt meeting at Awapuni in 1972. Huge clue - Race cafe comp players......????

Pegs Pride and Piccadilly?

Anabandana and Spring Rain were good 2yos but I don't think they would have made very good sires.

Very nice effort on the bonus question and you are on the right track. In fact you're closer than you realise...
