Ok ... But did that in 2008 ( $ 270) and felt jammed in . Like sitting at Eden Park watching the Blues.   So spent the rest of the day down on the lawn. Much more fun..!!!

Id go it alone mate providing you have a few mates to go with. Two things I would do is a) get decent tickets to the Cup (don't try and go cheap here) and b )  attend the call of the card at Crown Casino

Got no mates...and trying to dissuade the missus from going !!

I'd take the tram, and sit on Tommo's knee if it's not already occupied by Shane Warne or Peter Moody.

You need to take a visit to the middle of the track too, where the politicians, criminals, car salesmen, Anglican priests, and gypsies congregate ( that's 83.2% of all Australians there ). It's priceless out there, all manner of debauchery, thieving, men fiddling with each other under blankets, beastiality, incest, blokes offering their sisters for the price of a beer, just lies and rorts aplenty.

You haven't been to the "Cup" if you haven't risked a wander, unarmed, through the middle of the track.

Don't bother watching the racing, just watch the natives, it's like being immersed in The Discovery Channel or the bowels of The Congo, with a hint of Long Bay meets Schapelle Corboy.

Williments used to run a good tour. Nice to have a group to hang with on the day, all keen racing folk and great stand tickets (yes Hill stand). Ours was a good balance between being organised and having the freedom to do your own thing.

I've done a couple of Des' trips.

Personally I reckon the extra grand is worth it for Hill tickets, couple of boozy nights and a dinner, airport transfers and to and from races (even though I usually miss the coach back !), plus Sunday trip. Nice to be with a crowd as well - usually a dozen or so good characters you meet and get on with.

Different strokes

Go to Derby day on the Sat if possible also.

3 of us went a couple of years ago, we loved derby day, better then cup day, and the Hill stand was great, especially when it got really cold and you could whip inside and do your bets.
