BREAKING NEWS: DESPITE LEADING JOCKEYS DECLARING EAGLE FARM ONE OF THE WORST SURFACES ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD THE POWERS AT QLD RACING INSIST THE SHOW MUST GO ON! (So that's the Einstein award for 2017!) Did anyone see the Sires Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm today? It was absolutely appalling to see a once famous race on our national racing calendar turned into a gruelling staying test as a field of baby two year olds literally finished half the length of the straight. There was almost thirty lengths from the first horse from the winner to the end of the field - and most horses were in the back half of the field. And this, mind you, was a 1400 metre race for two year olds. If you don't want to believe how shocking the track was, then take a look at the bridle (below) of one of the runners caked in heavy sand from brow band to buckle to bit. Just image what the poor horse sucked in through its airwaves in such horrible conditions. Was this the result of bad weather conditions and bad luck for the committee and Queensland Racing? Not on your nelly. The track surface - a heavy 8 on a fine and sunny Queensland day - was entirely the result of arrogance, ignorance and a deeply belligerent belief that all the mistakes they have made creating this disastrous new track surface will simply fix itself. The entire nation is begging for some bold and courageous leadership right now and boy oh boy, we could start with some decent leadership in the racing industry - starting with a meeting being called today straight after the last race. Stop telling yourself lies, boys, because the rest of us already know what the truth is. Shut down Eagle Farm, rip up the soggy Vietnamese paddy field you have created and start all over again. People are incredibly angry that we are being forced to watch the destruction of a once great industry and the 200,000 jobs that go with it in Queensland. We believe that the Queensland horse community is much, much better than the way we are being treated right now - and we stand together, not only for our trainers, breeders, track workers and industry participants but for the future of our entire industry as a whole. We stand together because we care deeply about the well being of our horses - and we know they deserve to be treated so much better than being allowed to be choked down by mud, grit, bog and shifting surfaces on a fine and sunny Saturday. The decision, in light of the track performance at Eagle Farm yesterday, was made in order to present the best possible surface for Group 1 racing. RQ has consulted widely with industry associations and gained feedback from a wide selection of members including the nation’s leading participants. Consensus amongst the feedback was, that while the track was safe for racing, it is an inferior racing surface. “Racing Queensland is committed to providing the outcomes that are in the best interests of the industry as a whole and that includes a racing surface befitting the quality of the horses and races being contested,” Racing Queensland chief executive officer Dr Eliot Forbes said. RQ will examine all avenues for the best placement of the race meeting, with an announcement to industry participants later today. RQ will work closely with the BRC over the coming days to determine the best course of action for the remainder of the Brisbane Racing Carnival meetings. MPORTANT UPDATE: The BRC does not agree that this Saturday's Oaks Day meeting should be moved from Eagle Farm. The track is not performing as we would like, but it is safe for racing. We have requested an urgent meeting with Racing Queensland. The BRC wants more information other than the email we received from RQ this afternoon stating that the meeting was being moved. Thank heavens they thought about the horses, jockeys, and trainers for once. Trump 2,741 Report post Posted May 29, 2017 So if it buckets down for 2 days before the Straddie, a Heavy 9 is better at Doomben than a Heavy 9 at EF ? The EF track is not unsafe so why move it? Winx won on a Heavy 9 at Randwick and the last horse was a long way behind her. Who won the main races at EF last Sat? Melody Belle (fave and a Group winner), Clearly Innocent, fave for Straddie for weeks, Order Again, 2nd fav and highly fancied to win the Derby. No "wet track roughies". All classy horses. RQ have over/reacted to the claims of beaten trainers. The BRC are pissed off. My only mistake was my All up 4 horse multi $41,000/$40, MBelle/Order Again/Eckstein/ Chocante.
