aquaman 1,352 Report post Posted March 27, 2017 No, stop all imports, just send the licenses to the Sth Island. We could have a meeting everyday. jasonmccook1

Many dogs can't run 375m+ thats the problem. You will see 12-15/races at Wanganui and 12 or 13 races at Auckland on sunday Slim Shady

I would like to see that the stakes are raised for certain grades/distances but reducing stakes isn't the way to go.

bus stop 230 Report post Posted March 27, 2017 We all breed hoping to get 500 meter plus dogs but it always doesnt goes to plan and end up with 300-400 meter off spring and you are left with no alternative to race them to recoup your outlay. lad27, come on ref and lid pinger

So if you breed sprinter to sprinter or with a bitch that just got 318 ( no matter how quick ) how can you hope to get a decent 500m plus dog ? aquaman and alltheway!!!

GOM 1,017 Report post Posted March 27, 2017 The reason we are in this position is BECAUSE of imports. NZ ran 90% middle distance races and usually a distance race each meeting untill the flood of imports years ago that were unwanted in their home country. I was one of many at the time warning of the likely outcome down the track and it is exactly what happened. I remeber being very vocal about reducing the distances at both Auckland and Waikato. For all of that , it has happened so we must get on with it. Gary is probably right we are a sprint racing industry, it took years to get there and will take a lot longer to get out. Maybe we should reduce the distances again so Waikato may avoid the death throes they find themselves in. Eventually we would get down to the length of the straight only races. The NZGRA were looking at controlling how we selected dogs for breeding. How about bitches that have won over 500m above class 1. alltheway!!! 640 Report post Posted March 27, 2017 we have two meetings at Auckland this week as well which probably contributed to lack of noms at Cambridge as we do not have the numbers up here for three meetings a week. Maybe we should make all sprint races below c3-4 tier races and put a set limit on the amount of c1 sprints we can have at a meeting as well. You get $200 less for winning a c1 500 than winning a c5 sprint and that still hasn't changed anything so maybe making the lower grade sprints less attractive and less profitable for breeders is the way to go
bus stop 230 Report post Posted March 28, 2017 Just a thought on the breeding only with bitches that have won a C1 500 mtr would it have needed to run a certain time as would you breed from a bitch that may have 4-5, 500 MTR races but below average times come on ref

bus stop 230 Report post Posted March 29, 2017 (edited) Ray Adcock a few years ago trained a bitch called Ronray Disco a sprinter she was a above average sprinter wining times were nothing to get excited about. She was sentback to Aussie when finished racing and used for breeding her off spring from 2 litters have left some pretty smart city glass dogs in NSW and Victoria winning Group races and competing and beating the best. Yes there is always exception to the rule. Edited March 29, 2017 by bus stop
