Largely due to Karen Hay fronting it. She's got a way about her that Karen Hay. Always has done. A top documentary with a real Kiwi feel about it. Far superior to the previous weeks offering on "Student Radio."

Featured the FUNK BROS who were the studio band for MOTOWN and backed all the legends including Smokey Robinson,Stevie Wonder,Marvin Gaye and the Supremes to name a few. Excellent doco. The most drop dead gorgeous woman of NZ rock and with a great voice. hedley

crustyngrizzly 1,682 Report post Posted June 12, 2017 Just watched David Cassidy being interviewed by Dr Phil. He has early stages of dementia,is an alcoholic and altogether looks in a bad way. Three half brothers he never sees and a daughter he never sees.Does keep in contact with a son. Showed him in concert and even though he denied it he looked stoned or drunk or both.Forgot words to songs ,rambled on stage about life, fell off stage and the crowd were booing. Mother and grandfather died of complications due to dementia, future not looking good.

crustyngrizzly 1,682 Report post Posted June 13, 2017 After listening to the introduction for ''ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD'' a few times, i find that it is very similar to The Beastie Boys (you gotta)fight for your right(to party). Anyone else think that or is it simply a case of my hearing deteriorating over time.

Uriah Heap 481 Report post Posted October 29, 2017 It is a series but the first one was disappointing. Started off OK in and around 1968, but that is where it should have remained. Instead they wandered off into the 80's and 90's and it all became 'Ho Hum".
