Jape 344 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 Our lure-driver of umpteen years, Peter Knowles, never missed a raceday at Addington until last Friday when he passed away in his sleep over night after carrying out his usual lure-driving duties on Thursday evening. A real character was Pete. His death at age 65 came as a complete shock to us all. His involvement in greyhound racing goes back close to 40 years to when he trained some handy chasers. Friday's meeting was a very sad day for the team upstairs. Pete was such an integral part of our little group. Then again, he was known throughout the local industry and he will be sorely missed by so many. Rest easy, Pete. aquaman 1,352 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 I will miss Peter. CH CH and Kaiapoi will be the poorer without his presence. Couldn't believe it when told by the tote operator in the Kaiapoi Club. RIP Peter.
Andy Mc 6 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 Well words fail me really as we come to terms with losing part of our extended family. Peter Knowles (Knowsley) as we all knew him was a truely unique character. Never short of a quick remark and we never really knew what to expect next. Friday became one of the hardest days to handle from the first text message that he was late (which never happens) to the dreaded phone call that he had been found passed away still tucked up in his bed. To all of his family, friends and aqaintances our sincere condolences. Pete we will always love you and hold you dear to our hearts. Jape 344 Report post Posted August 24, 2016 We gave Pete a fine send-off last week at Addington Raceway with many tributes spoken at the service and a good tale or two swapped afterwards. You could not know Knowlesy without having a story or two to tell. The hearse completed a lap of the greyhound track with Pete "chasing the lure" one last time. it was a moving and fitting climax to a very well attended service. Rest in peace, good friend. come on ref
