Guest Report post Posted July 23, 2016 Great to see Stevie Goulding win the Junior Drivers Championship last night at Addington. A well deserved victory due to the effort that this young fellah has put in from several stables. Last year he dead heated for the number of wins for juniors with Robbie Close when he looked like he had won it! Stevie is a very likeable guy and always friendly and good with the media. Now that he is out of his time with the junior ranks hopefully he won't be lost to the industry or driving ranks. It is very difficult nowadays for the young in the industry to survive if you have not got well known parents who train and can give them drives. The industry can not afford to lose people of Stevie Gouldings ability or enthusiasm as I believe our junior ranks have become decidedly thinner as the years have gone on. Juniors cannot see a future in the sport as they add up the total hours a week they spend at the stable to get the minimum basic wage and then get the third string stable drive. Believe the take home pay would be well under the minimum hourly rate if you take in to account all the hours that they actually do. the serious trainers return for their time is probably not that great either. You have to be extremely dedicated to remain in the industry after you are out of your Juniors time and financially not a great career.
