Timon 107 Report post Posted May 21, 2016 Anyone know why this horse was disqualified this week after winning its maiden race at Riccarton on 19 February? Went into that race with a -9483 formline, missed the jump, was stone motherless at the 600m, then looped the field wide on the turn and won beating a handy field by 6+ lengths? elbow

bestbets 206 Report post Posted May 22, 2016 I went back in time and looked at the race and read the stewards report and no mention an no reason giving. The horse won with ease and I saw no reason for it to be disqualified, now I would also like to know the reason. The report on race two had just about every horse mention, cowboys down there, some of them riders should be exported to Stewart Island to ride. bestbets 206 Report post Posted May 22, 2016 Have to take back some of what I wrote above. I see they paid on the horse for winning so wasn't anything in the running that was the cause of the horse been disqualified.

Aaron Bidlake 759 Report post Posted May 22, 2016 I had a winner that day and it took longer than normal for owners payments to come through because there was an irregularity on a swab. I know no more than that though.

Cubes 1,770 Report post Posted May 23, 2016 Ummmm.... Here is a good one for the NZTR to be transparent etc about and show we can all live in harmony with no secrets or hidden agenda . Cubes has two questions for the External Communications Department of NZTR / NRB / TAB in Petone or Parnell or wherever .... 1. Why was Yogi disqualified 3 months after a horror start / horror ride / horror trip resulting in a 6 length victory at the home of NZ Racing ( Riccarton ) on Feb 19th 2016 ? (Watch the video 'Cafers forsure) 2 . Cubemeister , who backed the runner-up , has not noticed any up-in-valueness of the wasteland that is Cubes' TAB account .Why not ? 3 . As we move bravely forward as an industry into the bleakness that is winter 2016 , why not shine a light of illumination on those of us that never really seem to know what is going on ? elbow, GONSTA, kakama and 2 others
von Smallhaussen 3,226 Report post Posted May 23, 2016 please , please don't tell me a horse has been disqualified before a hearing has been heard, especially after the high profile Matamata cobalt cases that took a year for disqualifications to happen. Not different rules for different players surely. elbow

Just watched the video - some effort! If a banned substance was involved it was a good one. Agree that NZTR or NZRB should be transparent about the circumstances behind the disqualification, but don't agree that they should pay out those who backed the second horse. They have to pay out on result on the day - if they waited until drug tests had been processed and hearings held, the punters would be waiting a long time to collect their money. They can't get the money back off those who backed the disqualified winner, so don't expect them to pay out those who backed the "new" winner (although I would have liked this to happen when that cheating Aussie beat Themightyquin in the Interdom final a while back)

gubellini 3,923 Report post Posted May 23, 2016 The RIU is rapidly becoming a Secret Society. They are VERY selective in posting reports. No mention of this Yogi case in their Weekly Report. Frankly this is not good enough. Transparency seems to be an alien concept to them. Nothing will change until Mike Godber disappears into the ether. Fartoomuch 1,376 Report post Posted May 24, 2016 Better late than never!!! On Friday 20 May the JCA disqualified the horse Yogi from its win in Race 2 at The Canterbury Jockey Club Meeting on 19 February 2016, after the horse tested positive to the prohibited substance Caffeine. The JCA has reserved its decision on penalty for the trainers of Yogi, Mr. W and Mr. M Coles. gubellini
