To all you Jockeys (and ex jocks) on here - what is your opinion on Neil Callan's riding style? I realize to have a full time contract in HK he must have done well in England and having watched an interview with him he seems like a very nice bloke, but to me his style looks very unbalanced with head down, bum up and arms flaying in all directions. I think he was totally oblivious to the interference he caused in chautauqua's race in which he coped a 3 day suspension and fine HK$60,000

Good to see they have put the horse first, and will not go on to Royal Ascot.

Kudos to Team Hawkes and connections for this decision.

He has nothing to prove and they will have him back better than ever after a break.

To make the win even more impressive Chautauqua was in a very cantankerous mood and threw a shoe twice just prior to saddling up and entering the mounting yard. Having to be re shod twice before such a race  was not ideal. Then at the start he was very restless hence his slow start. T Berry said it was the quickest earlier stages of a race he had been in. How both the jockey and horse managed to compose them selves and then run past the whole field defies belief.  What a will to win!

Ohokaman...

I am disappointed by the fact that this tremendous racehorse will not be exposed to racing aficionados in the Northern Hemisphere.

I like to see the best race against the best and I see international racing as a possible saviour for the racing industry worldwide.

All the best.

rdytdy...

Why waste your time posting the obvious?

This horse was mooted as a Royal Ascot prospect. The opportunity of seeing him go up against some of the best in Europe (at least) in one or more time-honoured event is something that I would have enjoyed witnessing. I'm sure that many other lovers of top-class horse racing would be of the same mind as me. That this will not eventuate is a disappointment...that's all.

All the best.

But it's  true Ashoka. He is currently ranked No 1 Sprinter in the world! If they want to take him on tell them to go to Australia and race the best sprinters in the world. You'll be able to go see him too! Much cheaper to go to Melb or Sydney! :)

Trump...

I apologise for the "arrogant and ignorant" comment. I was unaware that Chautauqua was ranked the number one sprinter in the world. Perhaps I could do with a bit of the education that this horse's name is, apparently, a reference to.

From Wikipedia:

Chautauqua (/ʃəˈtɔːkwə/ shə-TAW-kwə) was an adult education movement in the United States, highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chautauqua assemblies expanded and spread throughout rural America until the mid-1920s. The Chautauqua brought entertainment and culture for the whole community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, entertainers, preachers and specialists of the day.[1] Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt was quoted as saying that Chautauqua is "the most American thing in America."[2]H.L. Mencken used the word "chautauqua" (lower case) to refer more generally to a herd of clumsy writers: "When they essay to be jocose, the result is usually an elephantine whimsicality, by the chautauqua out of the Atlantic Monthly." [Vintage Mencken, p. 96, ed. Alistair Cooke, 1955]

Chautauqua is a town and lake resort community in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 4,464 at the 2010 census.[1] The town is named after Chautauqua Lake. The traditional meaning remains "bag tied in the middle". The suggested meanings of this Seneca word have become numerous: "the place where one is lost"; "the place of easy death"; "fish taken out"; "foggy place"; "high up"; "two moccasins fastened together"; and "a bag tied in the middle".

The town of Chautauqua is in the western part of the county on the northwestern end of Chautauqua Lake. It is northwest of Jamestown. Chautauqua is famous as the home of the Chautauqua Institution, the birthplace in 1875 of the Chautauqua Movement of educational and cultural centers.

All the best.
