Us open

Question

...does the fact michael putnam use to live a mile away from chambers bay and played the first round at the grand opening then 40 other rounds give him some sort of 'edge ' on a course touted as unique? Top five $50 after qualifying recently. 3 ball first round $2 odd must be tempting????

Watched an article on that course tonight on US Golf channel.

Boy is it unique. Its a testament to the guy that built it and wanted the US Open to be played there.

It makes St Andrews look like a walk in the park, geeze some of those holes are tight and the undulating terrain will be a nightmare to negotiate. It gets used by the general public ,you could see them playing in the background, quite astounding to think the worlds best will try it.

I would hate to pick a winner on this one, this is one bitch of a Links course.

No horses for courses here, by the sounds of it the winning score may well be Over Par, might be worth a look at the winning score market,

Ryan Palmer thought the course was a disgrace, Charl Scwartzell thought if you hit a good putt it was likely to miss, yet if you hit a poor putt it had more chance of going in.

May well be looking for a player Tee to green, just watced the 2010 US Amatuer on youtube, the course looks like something out of the Flinstones

How good was that amatuer ! Uihlein and chung trading some excellent shots, saw a clip today showing someone bouncing a golf ball on the fairway, golfing gods will play a big part here for sure. Fowler looking good in practice, phil likened it to st andrews....will be very penalising with a decent wind ....south africans could be the ones to watch

Some of those top 5 prices after round 1 looked enticing..summerhays 100-1 ? Has competed with speith reed and johnson at the john deere and valero, seems to like fast courses and has some classy scrambling skills. Hes cut 1 inch off 13 of his clubs after working with a trackman and is hitting it tighter and it looks to be paying off...thus far...in saying that hes not normally one to back out when getn close to the lead...go danny! ...Andres romero is hanging in there as well, seems to like links setups and particularly when scores are closer to par....open pressure crack these two? It cracked romero in british open loss to harrington but summerhays? Hope not :)

So much for danny,Ben Martin shooting +16 didnt help his rythym im sure...what happens now? Four players on -4 speith left a few out there for sure but thats the nature of the course....what score wins with final round pressure? Jason day a little dizzy between 375 yard straight drives? What a crock, ive had vertigo on and off for years, its a bloody nuisance but hardly crippling as he showed today....can anyone come from over par to post a score high enough to add extra pressure?a few -5s -4s but nothing to suggest theres a -7 out there bar oosts numerous short misses today...he looks only obvious threat from 3 back but 4 leaders you would expect one at least to go under par...how tough will the usga setup the final round?

That sorted the men from the boys. I have no time for the whingers who are obviously  used to perfectly manicured courses and cant play out of their comfort zone. About time they set a challenge at last, and here it was. No 18 -24 under scores on this layout.

Jordan a real talent.

Jordan win at st andrews? Phil did state st andrews form is good for that US open and oosthuisen did win last edition, grace won dunhill links and few others close up with good links pedigree..including the erratic andres romero....weather and being on the right side of the draw play a part in The open championship so speith will be requiring some 'more' good fortune...seems weird oosthuizen played so well for the 3 days post his 77 with tiger? That group was clearly the worst of any 3 ball...they get bad windshifts or just bad vibes...fowler was woeful after looking great pre tourny?...DJ sold the farm, he says he got aggressive bcause he had a putt to win...he knew it was low %....he do the same with his time again?
