tasman man 742 Report post Posted May 6, 2012 1. Rod Laver 2. Martina Navratilova 3. Roy (let's go hacker) Emerson 4. Margaret Court nee Smith 5. Bjorn Borg 6. Rafael Nadal 7. TSNB 8. Pete Sampras 9. Ken Rosewall 10 Wojtek Fibak ....from many historians /experts. Seems strange to lump male/female when they never play , but when it comes to the males one list had Jimmy Connors a t #1 ,but generally RFederer,RLaver and PSAmpras are routinely named as the top 3 males. Nadal is obviously considered as #1 on clay. Now that Djokovic is current #1 and soon could challenge for top 10. The latest 'list' from respected sources is .. 1 R Federer 2 R Laver 3 S Graf 4 M Navritilova 5 PSampras 6 R Nadal 7 B Borg 8 M Court 9 C Evert 10 Billie Jean King Of others Roy Emerson is 17 while K.Rosewall is 20. Also RF has won the most money and has has the most sponsors. Also he has won that Sports Award for #1 in World for year in All Sports and remarkably has been named as one of world's most trusted people , up there with Nelson Mandela . Not bad for player considered as not even best of his gerneration !!! Whatever way you look at it RF is up near top and his 16 GS , must count for something. Even pogo has him near top !!! tasman man 11 979 Report post Posted July 19, 2017 To celebrate a RECORD 250 'negative' and 'denigrating' posts against the great Roger Federer the archives have brought up this May 2012 posting from Aussie battler POGO. Recently a widely sourced 'vote' for greatest male player had Roger at 74% top choice ,Sampras at 6% and Nadal at 4%. Roger must be favoured to yet again feature in the Laureus Awards as the years best sportsman and or for the greatest comeback. Of course he won the 2017 Australian Open from 21 seed beating 4 of top ten on the way before toppling Nadal in the Final ! Then last week he won 2017 Wimbledon for a record 8th time.....Wimbledon is widely considered the cream de la creme of Tournaments ,the World Championship. Some claim Rogers wins are only because his main opponents are always injured OR he was born with lines on his hands which gives him a lot of luck. In summary it appears that the 35 yr old ,who possibly could be considered the greatest sportsman ever has just been LUCKY !
