    Everybody Knows

Someone should have told the club it's owned in Cambridge. Very good trotter.
  3. With the new breeding season about to begin, and all this new money being paid out in stakes, I am sure we have all got the mares off the hills and decided its time to get into it again. SO....... I thought we might have a look at the stallions available this year. Personally, I think the choice gets better (and harder each year). Lets assume breeding to race. if its sales then Bettors, Art M, Some Beach, Am Ideal and a few others are the only way to go. But to race, the choices are wide reaching. Lets look for positive comments about stallions. Great attributes of young stock you have. Your thoughts on who might make it. Trainers comments. anything positive Personally, I really think Sportswriter is the real deal. His young stock look amazing. And I am a big fan of Shadow play, great lookers and cool to work with. Give them a little time and think they will repay us. Who would you choose, Auckland Reactor, Sir Lincoln, Gold Ace, Cheddar or Changover?? So much choice..
  4. One thing I am sure of; if Hughie was parked he would have been gasping before the turn instead of on the turn.
  5. Lol. Probably thick too. But think would be better
  6. I thik I have been in the game long enough to realize.
  7. i see a complaint about one parked and a complaint about one not parked. I prefer to be an owner over a driver
  8. Tragically, zee dana was killed by a snake bite. Breeding can be a bit cruel sometimes
  9. I am a bit lost here. How is it possible that heats of a group one race are group one races? I thought the idea of gp 1 races was to have the best against the best. Maybe I am wrong. Only in Stalia!!
  10. Iraklis, I promise you if Gracie (AOAA) is leading with a hundred to go on sunday I will be screaming at the TV and bugger the kiwi horse!. We are looking at this is a different way. She is my breed, my horse. A kiwi horse. So, I hope she wins by lengths! And I promise you, having worked with many Aussies in different parts of the world ( and - yes - even some good buggers!), I am the most pro kiwi anti aussie of any guy. What a win lie that will do for th breed I have spent 10 years building up is immeasurable. There are winners and losers when horses are sold overseas, but it is a fact of life if you are breeding in nz. Arden Rooney is a kiwibred horse. Waikiki Beach is Aussiebred. Hell, most of our winnners are by American stallions. Are they american? Tis a world game. One of my mares left Mr franklin who went 1.49.4 running second in America. AOAA has gone 1.48 in Aus. What chance of them doing that here at the moment?
  11. I just went through the fields at menangle for this week. I didnt realize how many kiwi horses there are there. lol. Do they breed standardbreds in Stralya!! It was interesting to compare horses best nz times to best aussie time. ( I included place times in nz) In the miracle mile easy on the eye 1.51.5 - to 1.50.7 and I guess Have Faith in me 1.52.5 to 1.48.8. Have not changed a whole lot (although HFIM improved 4 seconds and more to come. Here are the others: Arms of an Angel ( Gracie to me) nz 1.57.7 aus 1.50.3 won nz $16 Aus $90k ( exported sept 2015) monifieth 1.56.8 1.51.2 won nz $28k Aus $44 (exported march 2013) lord zinzan 1.57.9 1.51.6 $40k $47 (exported sept 2015) Hard copy 1.57.6 1.51.4 $32k k955 (exported june2012} Blazin n cullen 1.56.6 1.51 $80 k230 ( exported feb2014) I know times mean little but there is quite a difference in all of them. Were they all battlers here? Others of interest. I've gotta life 2.03q 1.50.7 nz 0 $190k (exported feb 2013) Yaya's hotspot 2.00.6 1.52.7 $231 $183k (exported april 2011) millwood liberty 2.03.7 1.51.7 $0 $182k (exported july 2012) There are heaps of others. I dont think they were all battlers in nz. The reality is we have to sell. Horses improve their times and earn more there. Arm of an Angels mums pedigree page already looks better! A friend of mine owned one a few years ago. He won a couple but was told he was better sold and to move on to another one. He won 4 mill i think! Smoken Up.
  12. Actually, I see it as a win win. I will keep breeding and hopefully selling. I have 2 photos of Arms of an Angel on my wall and I still cheer like crazy when she is running there. She is still a kiwi horse.I have sold about a dozen to aus and the USA. ( and a couple to China). some have been very successful, a few have failed. I breed 4 or 5 a year. If I didnt sell, it would be one or two. I dont see it as much different from the yearling sales. Maybe a little bit more risk, New Zealand racing does what it can, but its a little place with sadly, little interest now. We have been selling for years.Nothing will change. I consider AOAA my horse, sold or not. I have a couple of others I bred racing over there too, doing ok, but not superstars. I cheer for them just as much. Funnily enough I got more for one of them than I did AOAA. He''s had 8 wins and won k50, but he paid for last years service fees! Lets just love this game!
  13. Thanx Kakama. I Am ever hopeful and with a good draw look forward to the weekend. Last start at cambridge, he goes 2.40 and runs forth, basically getting nothing. Go figure. JayTee, I can assure you if I knew 6 months after the sale she was going to be running probably sub 1.50 in the miracle mile, She would still be very much in my ownership. She was a nice mare with a few quirks, who I thought would win 5 or 6. Shows how good I am! However I have a few young ones laying around and need to get them up and running. Iraklis - I mean 'by not being able to compete' that the oportunities to place a horse in Aus are much better than here. Arms of an Angel needs mile racing. She had a Few in NZ, but over there she can do it every week. The ultimate is indeed to breed and race a champion. For me it would be great to do that and then have the colt stand at one of the big studs. I might have let my champion go - who knows.
  14. Interesting Topic, With the cost of getting a horse to Aus now, you have to be sure that you have the right horse to make money. I sold Arms of an Angel to Australia, and not for a great deal of money. However, it was more than they wanted to pay and I thought it was fair. She is an Elsu filly out of a mare who had very high speed but was unplaced as a race horse. She was a real handful as a young horse. The trainers did a great job getting her to where she was. A fortune she was not worth. I have a lot of faith in the mum and now have her son - Trevs no angel, a Big Jim yearling filly and a sportswriter colt to play with. I look forward to that. I bred from half a dozen mares (4 or 5 foals a year), and believing the sales are geared up for the big sellers ( I had some terrible experiences a few years ago), decided my focus was to get my horses up and running and then sell. Its not cheap and its risky, but I keep ticking it over. A win or 2 and then moving them on keeps the business ticking over. I hope like hell Arms of an angel wins the miracle mile ( althought I doubt that she will. Those are hellishing good horses) and I hope she goes on to win a million. Trev will end up there too. I will hold on to one - one day! We can't compete here. Arms of an angel needs mile racing every week. Where can she get that? She won 15k and cost more than that. The sale price means I made a small profit on her. Like most owners, I take great pleasure in my horses. It makes great sense to get them where you can and move them on. I have sold a few for good money that have struggled too. As someone said, swings and roundabouts.
  15. I am quite sure he ran a brilliant 2nd in the miracle mile last year too. Correct me if I am wrong, please
