  1. Nelli, the NI amateur association agreed to sponsor a race but the Club decide which race . And no it isnt a bribe. We appreciate all the support that the Clubs give us, and we sponsor at both Cambridge and Auckland.
  2. I used to think that change could be effected through rational and constructive debate. However, harness racing seems to suffer from a distinct lack of foresight and direction. There are some well known signs of ineffective leadership. Looking at the list below, I suspect that HRNZ and its leadership team would tick all these boxes!! Communication problems Inability to make decisions Poor performance Lacking conflict resolution skills Quick to blame instead of taking responsibility Slow reaction to change Lack of focus and attention to detail Comfortable with the status quo Forget about the customer Lack personal and team accountability If this is the case, how do we make changes. The rating system is just one aspect of the Industry that has been met with Universal condemnation. Every change seems to simply try and paper over some of the cracks, and simply doesn't work I dont have all the answers, and readily acknowledge that there is NO silver bullet to fix the problems we are facing, but its a compilation of great ideas, and successful implementation of these that may see us survive to 2030 and beyond.
  3. I thought the same thing Dave... No discretion, unless we need some discretion... WTF
  4. The motion to give the board the authority to negotiate the sale of the front land was passed.
  5. Whilst it may seem a small price they paid, they got reasonable money . These numbers are from the Reserve Bank of NZ inflation numbers
  6. R1 - 1 R2 - 12 R3 - 5 R4 - 13, 2 Q R5 - 1 R6 - 6 R7 - 10 R8 - 1 R9 - 12, 2 & 1 Tri
  7. I can confirm 100% the bell sounded a lap early.
  8. Steve actually started in the harness code. Used to call the workouts at Alexandra Park!!
  9. I'm available for the drive!!
  10. I was only a wee fella at the time. However, from memory, he won several 2yo races, and a few places. And in those days, there weren't a lot of 2yo races. Didn't really come up as expected as a 3yo, and then was sold to USA as an early 4-year-old. He was a 2yo in 1973, and they scorched over the mile in 2-09 . The stake money was $1500. However, to put that into perspective, a basket of goods that cost $1500 in 1973, would cost $18,000 in 2017. (figures based on the Inflation Calendar)
  11. Hi FL, Mr Shorthorn was just a handy young horse. He was owned by my uncle Charlie Hadley, and didn't have any name change.
  12. Love your work Timmy!!! hahaha
  13. No idea. As far as I know, he isnt heading over the Tasman sea.
  14. Well that's an interesting "veiled" statement...However, misinformed it is. Around 5 years ago, Geoff made a conscious decision to stop buying yearlings at the sales. He was taking massive risks with HIS MONEY, and inevitably, would end up with pieces of all the horses. He didnt have big-spending owners going to the sales, and was taking all the risk himself. As a consequence of that, the quality of horses coming in the front gate certainly diminished, and as a result of that, he has obviously failed to produce any genuine Group performers. However, the training ability can never be denied. He has won almost every big race going in New Zealand, and if he ever managed to attract a big-spending owner into the barn, he would be more than capable of winning Group races again.
  15. Incorrect. He is certainly planning on making some changes, but he will still be training.
  16. Ouch. Are you able to advise who that is?
  17. Ahhh..Thanks for that. I didnt know
  18. Now, I dont know much about how they frame the market, or how they end up with the pricing. Maybe someone can enlighten me. In the race just gone at Cambridge, EVERY single horse is paying way more on the tote place odds, than in the fixed odds. Something doesnt seem right
  19. Given this generous incentive, it certainly opens up opportunities for a trainer (assuming they had funds) to buy 5 or 6 claimers. Setting aside the winning stakes, they could earn the $2000 per week just for lining up. Again, I am making an assumption that there would be claimers most weeks, which given the dwindling numbers at Auckland, is a reasonable assumption to make.
  20. Maybe I am not understanding this...but if the trainer buys these 5 horses, and owns them, would he get both fees, hence it would be $400 per horse which would equate to $2000 per week?? Also, if the trainer also has a drivers licence, no charge for that.
  21. Never been beaten from the stands!! hahaha Might have a better UDR if I could drive your team!
  22. To be fair Tim, doesnt take much for many to have a "blue" with you
