  1. So dissapointed I couldn't watch this great race and had to listen to the radio. However, good to see that it went to a horse from Australasia Congratulations to the team.
  2. Very sad to hear of the sudden passing of Errol. A fellow West Coaster, Errol was a good friend when I first arrived in Riccarton to work as a track rider/stablehand. Lost touch with him for many years until I met up with him at the Christchurch 2yo sales. Had a great catchup and it was interesting that we had both bred horses down from the good mare 'Careen'. Condolences to the Skelton family. Lynne (Kearns) Corbett
  3. When I was track riding around the coast as a (very) young lass, I loved hearing the stories from the old trainers. Jimmy Walsh, Mick Conza, Jim Lalor and many others. At Omoto there was man who lived at the track who would make us cuppa's and us kids would sit on the step listening to all his stories. Always best at meetings as the stories got bigger and better. lol.
  4. Yes I well remember the tight corners of the Coast tracks especially Hokitika as well as the mud. I think Gene rode a few winners on the Coast including 'Uncle Tom' for Ray Shields and 'Round Up' for the late Shirley Fauth. Gene has in recent years made a name for himself as an owner/trainer in WA with a good mare 'Wild Ruby'.
  5. Getting back to Cappimore - the name rings bells for me being an ex West Coaster. Was he ever ridden by Gene Killick?
  6. RIP Bill. Thanks for the memories. You were my hero.
  7. Super effort from a super horse.
  8. Before Mr Fowler took out his trainers licence his horses were trained by Barry Taylor in Blenheim. Wyebank and Silverwood come to mind as I rode them trackwork.
  9. Not a great deal of thought gone into that but at least the jockeys won't have far to go not like the South Island ones recently.
  10. Yes she is a stunning girl. One I have always admired also. It's a well known fact that I love her sire 'Remind' and her dam 'Sophie Roe' has also left some very good race horses. It was a shame that she had to be retired from the broodmare paddock.
  11. Agree with what Dibbles and Midget have said. It is not good form to come on here and bag someone without facts to back up your statement. All good luck to the owner and may the winners keep on coming.
  12. When I worked for Jack Tutton 1963 - 65 he had in work Mcool, Champ, Zinder and I think Natter was broken in then. Shoal had been retired to the broodmares paddock. Of course Zinder had previously been trained by Jim Tompkinson. A lovely horse to ride he went with Champ to America. Stable jockey and foreman was Colin McDonald, I was track rider and Alan Sharplin was stablehand.
