  1. For those interested the funds have now been dispersed. Having received a humble apology from CanTeen the bulk of the money ($7200) raised went to them as it was originally intended. A smaller amount ($3000) went to Early Buds who assist parents with premature babies. A big thanks to Ashley Bradshaw for making that introduction. http://www.earlybuds.org.nz/ CanTeen have acknowledged they made bad mistake in taking the knee-jerk action to not take funds from the greyhound industry following complaints from Aaron Cross. Having heard from Greg Kerr about our industry standards they admitted and apologized for there judgmental approach and ignorance about our industry. While it was unfortunate I accept the reasons behind there original action even though clearly misguided and continue to wish them well into the future. On the upside I consider it a bit of a victory over the fear and ignorance peddled my Mr Cross in respect of our great sport.
  2. Yes at the last minute Canteen decided greyhounds didn't fit with their core values. While obviously very disappointing to get that feedback, it certainly wasn't in keeping with the thanks and support from the local Christchurch office and the great people I have met personally through Canteen. Unfortunately objections were made to head office and the CEO/fundraising manager thought it wasn't a wise move commercially so they turned it down. This is the age we live in. We are working to find another suitable and deserving charity to donate the funds to who are willing to stand next to the good people in greyhound racing and accept these funds raised in good faith for charitable purposes. I don't mean to denigrate the good work done by GAP or Nightrave but I don't think what should be industry funded programs should be subsidized by charitable donations. Any suggestions welcome.
  3. With the help of the Christchurch Greyhound Club there will be a puppy being auctioned off on cup night with all proceeds going to Canteen Cancer charity. They do some great things with young people in need. www.canteen.org.nz/ The pup in question is by Fernando Bale x Molly Paisley and whelped on the 28th October 2016. The winning bidder will have choice of the litter, male or female at 12 weeks of age. Rearing can be arranged if required. greyhound-data.com/dbtestmating.php?&sireid=2108752&damid=1835183 The sire needs no introduction being arguably the greatest racedog of all time. Multiple Group 1 winner, and record prizemeony earner of well over $1m. The dam Molly Paisley is a proven producer. Her first litter by Collision include: Born to Boom, 30s-15 wins. Finalist in last years NZ Cup (fell as second fav), 2nd Wanganui Derby. 30.02 winner at Addington defeating Opawa Shackley as a young dog. Unfortunately been cruelled by injury the last 12 months. Dirk the Jerk, 55s- 21 wins. Winner of NZ St Leger last season, 2nd Wanganui Cup and multiple group race finalist. Firemans Galaxy, 44s- 16 wins. 3rd in last years Galaxy final and finalist again this year. Troubled by injury but has run 16.96 at Addington among other fast wins. Vinny Vindaloo, 14s -6 wins. Won NZRS final at Waikato beating Dirk the Jerk and Born to Boom but broke down unfortunately. Second litter by Magic Sprite include: Charlie Runkel, Lauren the Leech, Dora Dufran and the ill-fated Harlequin Parade, all promising types just starting out there careers. Third litter by Cosmic Rumble being broken in with very strong reports. Molly Paisley was a very talented bitch making the final of prestigious Dapto Maiden final, trialled 29.9 at Dapto before starting. Never fully regained confidence from a nasty fall in Maiden final but did run fast 30.49 at Richmond and wins at Bulli before coming to NZ and winning multiple races. Descends from one of the most powerful damlines in Australia. This will be the only pup sold. If your interested in bidding but can't be there on the night please contact Tony Music at Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club.
