Has anyone heard what is happening about setting up somewhere to house the GAP dogs in Christchurch. I have heard they are going to transport dogs to Levin. Sounds crazy to me. We need someone dedicated down here to finding good homes for the dogs on the GAP list. I can't believe there hasn't been more of an.uproar about it.

For what ever reason they will no longer be taking dogs in.... so who will be?.....if anyone. Surely they can iron out any previous differences they had with the previous GAP lady who always seemed to me to be genuinely trying to do her best for the dogs. My impression anyway. The list situation has to be sorted though they should go through the programme in the order they are put on the list. Sure, have a supplementary.list for cat friendly dogs for people who have a prerequisite for a cat friendly dog. There has to be a fair system with some assemblance of order so EVERYONE knows where they stand. This could be a positive thing, a chance to change things for the better...

I was told by Judy at the Amberley kennels last month they were not taking any in over xmas cos the vets weren't available. I went to that Vet clinic just after Christmas looked all business to me. Am wondering whether they want the kennels for the probably higher paying pampered pooches over Christmas which i guess you xant really blame them. Good time of year for getting dogs into homes when people have more time on their hands. I thought the previous kennels which Deseree looked after (sorry about the spelling) was really friendly and welcoming. Perhaps they.could have her doing them as well... why not? Why only.one? See who.performs the better...just a thought. There needs to be more advertising on TV about how great a pet they can be.still even today a fair chunk of the population think they wear a muzzle cos they're vicious...crazy.

You sound like a like minded animal lover. Well done. I really think it should be an initiative handled by GRNZ. Initially I thought it could be mainly funded by reduction of the petrol vouchers. Then of course they disappeared anyway. It should be run kind of like an ACC fund there could be a levy on.fees 5% of all stakes could go into the fund. It would probably need an injection to start with. Maybe the clubs with available funds could help start it off. I hear the Chch club has the guts of aI cool mil in the coffers surely they could spare 50k to start off such a scheme. It would be a positive move. The public can't comprehend why so many dogs are euthanised with fixable injuries and quite frankly Neither can I.

Once again I want to bring this up. I had an email conversation with Jim when he was in charge several years ago. He thought it was a great idea and why hadn't it been thought.of before. He said he would bring it up at a boardmeetong. Don't know if he did. Some time after that I thought I would given the new welfare officer a chance to give his opinion on my idea. Never got a response to my emails which made me very cynical about how genuine GRNZ were about greyhound welfare. Out of sight out of mind. I think we need a fund set up to cover vet bills for when a race dog injures itself during a race. They put their bodies in the line every time they.go.out there. They deserve to be looked after when things go terribly wrong. As they do.. many injuries can be repaired I have about 4 retired ones at home that have broken hocks and one that snapped s front leg. All repaired. All now sound and most importantly.all happy. If it means taking a percentage of the stake money to fund this so be it. It would be a tangible way.of showing the WORLD that we really do give a shit about our dogs.

I seldom have a bet. Time will tell on his next start. He wouldn't know what to do with dead bait as you call it. Much happier playing fetch with his Freddy frog toy. He's a winger who prefers not to mix it up with the props. ... no champ ...but a grand wee dog.

John. You can tell by looking in the stand downs if the dog wasn't stood down he was destroyed at the track. Pretty simple really. I tried to suggest to the board once about having a fund like a ACC fund for dogs injured while racing to cover surgery costs etc to hopefully lessen the destruction rate but they weren't interested. That was when petrol vouchers were given. I suggested using some of that.money for this fund it wud be something tangible that wud show the industry cares about the casualties that inevitably. Come from racing dogs... where most of them really do.love to race.

Well done to John McNally training his first winner at Addington yesterday Gumps the name. Great to see someone who shows so much enthusiasm for the sport get rewarded.

Now now boys. I'm With John on this one. The.last thing we.need here is an influx of aus greyhounds. I wouldn't put it past the NSW govt To even subsidiise.it so they don't. Look so bad when the mass slaughter happens..get rid.of as many as they.can.. someone else's problem.
