  1. They utilize it during winter, as it's one of the best winter surfaces. However they only have one meeting between Oct 2 & May 19, the best part of 7 months.
  2. Love Ruakaka. Would have to be my favourite track. Try and get up there as often as I can. Looking forward to Saturday.
  3. Which are your favourite tracks for punting? And which tracks do you prefer to avoid? My personal favourites for punting are Ellerslie, Flemington and Ruakaka. Tauranga and Rotorua on the other hand, are a bit of a graveyard for me.
  4. Anyone know the Pick 6 venue this Saturday (30/6/12)? Ruakaka or Hastings?
  5. NZ Racing........... "Kumara Racing Club meeting postponed to Monday The Kumara Racing Club meeting today has been abandoned due to track conditions. The meeting has been moved to Monday 9 January. Stipendiary stewards Andrew Rae and Jeff McLaughlin inspected the track at Kumara at 6.30am this morning and then met with Club officials. Light rain was falling at the time. In the opinion of the stewards the track would be unsafe for racing that day given the Good 2 track conditions. The decision to abandon the meeting and postpone racing to Monday was made at 8am after Club officials and considered all of their options. Any horse already scratched at Kumara will be reinstated. Fields will remain the same. The Kumara Racing Club regrets the decision to have to postpone their annual meeting but the safety of horses and riders must come first."
  6. "Also near the 150 metres Felidea knuckled badly and almost fell almost dislodging its rider C. Quilty. During this incident C. Quilty lost the use of his offside iron for a short distance. After Correct Weight was declared, Stewards with a delegation of riders inspected the track at this point and discovered an extensive cavity had appeared. As Stewards could not be satisfied that the surface of the track would be safe to race on after the discovery of this cavity and also that remedial repair work could not be taken within a suitable time frame to continue the meeting, Stewards abandoned the meeting at 1.50 p.m." It's a shame, as there's always a big crowd on course for this iconic meeting.
  7. So 6 out of the 7 races from Flemington today are 'no tv' races according to the TAB website. What's the deal there? I understand the start times for Flemington have been brought forward due to the weather, but still, premier venue, two channels, surely make use of them?
  8. Hopefully the transfer can happen.
  9. Cheers to whoever got onto it. It's now been amended.
  10. Any particular reason why a large chunk of February is 'empty', with no race meetings allocated, on the calendar on the NZ Racing website?
  11. The man himself got a decent 'cheer' when strolling across the grass embankment at Dargaville yesterday. Mind you, it was later into the afternoon, and the majority of punters had had a few.
  12. What would be the most rural racecourse in the country? As a racing fan, I particularly enjoy going to the country races. Getting off the beaten track a bit. There
  13. I see the new format was in the shops this morning. I only had a quick flick through, and noticed they had the little picture with the colour of the jockeys silks for some meetings, and a bit of extra info here and there. What do punters think of the new format?
