  1. Has Risque been sold to Australian interests? It is rumoured that this may be the case.Another top horse leaves NZ shores?
  2. A good move by decent people.I wish them well in their new venture.
  3. I have noticed the same Midget, especially at being the last to load.Does make one wonder.I asked to be loaded last on one occasion, but to no avail.
  4. Why do you think some are going to Australia. Even Australia's smaller meetings pay $270 back to 9th, plus pay all fees. Only syndicates, and studs racing their progeny, will survive in NZ and those pricks at the top still get their fat salaries. The Govt needs to step up to the plate and assist with stakes instead of worrying about changing flags etc. This industry employs a lot of people and helps the economy in general. Why do you think Trainers and owners have to sell overseas after winning trials. With the small numbers of top horses staying to race in NZ our stakes races will not be recognized in a few years.
  5. The 3yo Bushranger is the only one available, so you may call me if interested.Thankyou.
  6. Yesterday two stakes winners and three winners in total with few runners on the day. This stallion seems to be doing the job at a very fair fee.Would he be standing at a much higher fee ,if in the Waikato? They seem to win on all tracks at all distances both in NZ and Australia. A very good sire.
  7. Two seasons ago I was persuaded by the stud to send one of my mares to Cape Blanco instead of Tavistock,(which was my choice). The stud was selling their weanlings as they had doubts T was any good. She missed and again at the very start of last season I was again told Cape Blanco was the better sire,he was therefore signed up.Within a month from signing up C B, Tavistock was full , in fact he was filled within three short days. If Sir P was honest he would admit that he had doubts about Tavistock in those first years, and this just proves that when a stallion is obtained by a stud they don't really know if they will be good but certainly like us racing there should always be hope, especially if the bloodlines are there. Now I too have no hope of getting in to Tavistock however I do have K1 mares, and one's first foal is a stakes winner and just missed the G1 on saturday. Should make her easier to get into those top Aussie stallions next season. Tavistock is certainly making his mark and so far the best Montjeu stallion around. We should also be looking at sons of Street Cry very carefully, and so should the studs in this country. We need more.
  8. Hardly a mention prior to the race. Didn't expect it after the event. If it had been owned by one of the "big boys" or studs there would have been hulabaloo about how unlucky it was. Richardson is a quiet achiever,600+ winners not to be sneezed at. Still think it's a genuine Oaks contender. The race was run to suit Risque, so good on the winner, that's racing.
  9. What a good Trainer. Strada Cavello in the Guineas ,hadn't had a run for a month, first time over 1600m. The filly was slow out and held up at a crucial stage when rolling forward in the middle stages, between the 800m and 650m. With a lack of genuine pace in the race, which didn't suit her,she over raced and I see Johnson look over his shoulder when held up to see Risque making her move. This horse could be the Oaks winner. I think if she had had a smooth run she could have won. That was the difference between 1st and 2nd.This is also mentioned in the Stipes report. Notice there was no fanfare from Trackside presenters as to the merits of Richie and this horse. A genuine horse and very good Trainer who doesn't get the backing of expensive horses and the big studs, but is probably one of the better Trainers in the country. He seems to pay for his own advertising and looks after his clients. He's good for racing.
  10. What is the breakdown of percentages taken out ,including the Govt take? Presently fields are very small in many instances thus reducing the pool. If more owners got back into racing wouldn't the pool be larger? Does Govt legislation need to be changed to tax the bookmaker outside NZ, who takes NZ betting money? If the appearance fee was based on net TAB profit for said horse ie. before tax, wouldn't it only reduced the Govt Take or is that a set % figure?
  11. I have poured through the rules of racing and can see no reason to stop owners notifying the TAB and NZTR that they intend charging a fee to provide the "product". This is not a case of bringing racing into disrepute or such, merely a case of the owner endeavouring to recoup some costs. All it seems is that either the club or NZTR may have the right not allow the horse to race and if this were the case ,under what rule? Rumpole you are the Legal Eagle is there anything to stop someone starting a precedent? Should the possibility of such situation be discussed through relevant associations and then put to NZTR. I would be prepared to give it a go, with my horses if after discussion an appearance fee was a possibility. The TAB could then decide to either include such horses in the betting pool or not. I am not trying to be smart but just looking at an alternative to free racing in NZ.
  12. You are right on the button Biff. Most of us don't expect to make money out of the game and if we do it's a bonus. Recently I had a horse earn $350 for fourth yet the amount that went into my account was a measly $35. I still had the float bill to pay.Why do we do it? After all these years, in all aspects of the game I love, even I'm starting to question if it's worthwhile. I'm only racing now as I can't get rid of them. I even sold a Showcasing filly out of a 9win mare for $2000 just to ease the numbers. I recently spoke to two well known trainers who stated they cannot see themselves staying in the game more than another twelve months under the present regime.
  13. Just wondering if there is anything in the Rules of Racing which prevents the owner of a horse charging the TAB to allow wagering on their horse? Is it possible that the Owners and/or Trainers association notify either NZR and/or the TAB the any right for them(TAB) to allow wagering on the owners horse will incur a fee? The fee could be say 10% of the net amount wagered on that horse and thus the favourite horses would would incur a higher "appearance fee" than those less favoured. This would have a twofold purpose in that it would weed out the "poorer gallopers" from the better ones. Would such an idea need Govt approval ? Something needs to be done in NZ to keep owners and the smaller trainers in the game. If such a scheme was allowed everybody gets something back. Under the present system NZ racing will continue to be a doomed industry and only those looking for tax benefits and the normal diehards will continue in the game. Just an idea.
