  2. Thanks must go to Scooby for allowing me to split the $300 bet into 3 separate bets!!. Yes a good day and i am yet to find out if the bets were FF or tote as i forgot to state what i preferred but it does not really matter as i thing the odds ended up comparable. In order to support further comps i will make the figure up to a thousand and talk to scooby about what comps it can go toward..... so Rcer's can benefit.

Unbelievable that our mare, which we had almost given up on a few months ago should win three straight races. Never owned a horse that won three on the spin before. Great training effort form Richard Collett and his team and young Kavish the 4Kg claimer has been a revelation!

  4. As a plumber it didn't take a second look to work out it was a drainage issue. With a sloped track towards the inside there must be collection points and soak pits at regular intervals around the track. Something isnt working due to lack of regular maintenance or the soak pits aren't working in that area and have become clogged over time.?

  5. Well for a departing participant who doesn't quite know where his allegiances will end up, I will leave with this parting gesture for you PJ. It comes from a commentary I heard when Courage Under Fire won his last Derby as he neared the finish line. " We salute you little champion". Well done.

  6. I'm sure my 'Ad Augusta' team-mates join me in thanking and wishing well all the members of the 4 teams who all played so well through the competition but unfortunately won't be going on to the Finals weeks. I've been playing these PJ Super Comps for years and years and years, and this one was the most even and closely fought that I've been involved in, in all that time. There's been only a smidgeon between the first and last teams right through the comp. A credit to all participants, played well and in a great spirit. And within the departing teams some very special performances - TC's 14 from 14 winning record an absolute astonishing performance that I don't believe will ever be matched going forward - Lay Down Misere's audacious and highly successful win in the penultimate week that really put the word team into team - among the highlights. Now it's on to the Championship Round for 'Ad Augusta' - where we'll step up the pace and really give our rivals something to chase. Congratulations to Betza Grand, Dark Horses, and The Rubiks for making the big playoffs. Although you won't be in any danger of being at the head of the leaderboard when my ultra-talented colleagues Casper, Cat, Tom, and Wrinkles weave their 'Ad Augusta' magic, nonetheless you three other teams have done super well to get this far. Well done, teamies. Thanks for a great double round-robin preliminary competition full of excitement and entertainment for us all, PJ. As John said ...you're an absolute legend. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, folks.

  7. Sorry team, poor picking by me today. We were a couple of narrow margins away from a good result today. If you look at where we were after Round 10, we did well to give ourselves a shot at the play-offs. Not to be, but last week was a lot of fun. Of course we saw the flipside today but we died trying. It's been a pleasure being in the same team as all of you - enjoyed our ongoing messaging and positive team spirit. Congrats to the four teams who make the finals and good luck to all of you. Shouldn't have favourites but I'll be rooting for team AA - Howie's enthusiasm and optimism are hard to go past. Peter J - thank you once again for the most brilliant "dry & boring" comp I've ever come across - you are an absolute legend.

  8. The Board is looking along the lines not letting these type of dogs coming to NZ pity in a way as some in the past have turned out okay with the FOL. At Bathust one day and the bookie there told me that Little Mother wasnt the hardest of chaser at the bringing of her racing and we all know what she achived when sent over to the Coles Kennels. I think these types of dogs deserve a second chance on the FOL it saves them from been done away with. Waiting on the negative feed back from the antis for these types of dogs been sent here.

  9. That Ellerslie are doing this work now without regard to the needs of the wider galloping code is symptomatic of the problems within racing. Like it or not this is the premier track in NZ and they should be installing a Strathayr track or similar. Ellerslie needs to be in a position to race every 2nd weekend and it’s unlikely this work will achieve this.

  10. Pleasure CB - great days picking by you (and a few others here) If you send me a private message with your TAB account I will get the winnings to you. Thanks everyone for the entries - we had a great turnout. I will say I really enjoy this site and the people I have got to know through it. So I appreciate Scooby running it - I understand that a few have been taking potshots elsewhere at the site and Scooby. To the extent they still enter the competitions I guess I am a bit bemused. But it wont stop me running them occasionally - and finally thanks Yir Tiz & Catalano who ran a prev comp that I won and the proceeds from which helped fund this one. They are both clever and informative racing people to "talk" to - as are heaps on here. Sorry for the lengthy post all. Enjoy Sunday and well done again Charlie !

The final collects for the Five No Trumps came from Steve and Ian which got them across the team profit line for a bonus point to add to the one for a higher aggregate. Moose stamped his Man of the Match status with a BB in the final event. The Dark Horses took a valuable bonus point for a team profit while the Mainly Dollarz did likewise in a high scoring match. 272.80 The Crucible 187.00 Skelly 400.00 Jill 295.00 Korio 196.00 Richie 287.80 Rosina 82.00 Brian 122.00 Sarah 377.60 Jack 628.00 Moose 3 THE RUBIKS* (5th) $1041.60 2 (x 2 Joker Play) = 4 points 2 THE ROYLE FAMILY (8th) $1514.80 2 points Some serious late drama here with Roland's scratching taking him on to the sub - runner-up Manuel - completing the quinella which he doubled with a BB enabling him to get up and pip Heather cancelling out Pete's last race triumph over Geoff with a BB. So The Rubiks snatched the win and with their Joker play harvested 4 points. The Royle Family took two bonus points in a return to form - one for a higher aggregate and the other for a team profit. Roland was the Rubiks MVP but his better half Jen was Match Star with a mammoth total. The Dark Horses bonus point from their team profit proved just enough to get them into the Finals while The Rubiks thrilling last race success eased them past the Five No Trumps who needed a win as it turned out to secure Finals action. The Mainly Dollarz lost and missed out but gained a small consolation climbing over the Lay Down Miseres whose cunning strategy didn't work like last week. The Royles lost and ended the comp in the cellar but put up a spirited performance today. Special mention of TC who has created a record going 14 comp matches unbeaten. A real pity he won't get the chance to extend that streak next week. Thanks a million to the 4 sides who leave us this week. In what I think has been one of the closest comps ever you can all count yourselves a little unlucky not to make the Finals.

Maybe if the NZTR, NZTBA & NZTM got together and promoted the industry within the high schools and with the career advisors it could help. We have struggled to put this across; we have seen the lack of information there is available to students re the industry, whereas other industries have posters and brochures with point of contact but not this industry. Our daughter is lucky as we know the contacts, but if a student had parents who know nothing about the industry the schools would not be able to help. I have even suggested they have a site at the likes of the Equi days promoting the industry (jobs and racing), many potential young people there and dragging their parents along who may have never thought about joining a syndicate. But these are only my thoughts!

Meanwhile, I'm fresh from losing yet another week in yet another last-race loss. I've grown accustomed to the sad inevitability of seeing my opponent's pick get up in the dying strides. If you look at the slo-mo, I'm sure you can see the horse look at the camera and give a shit-eating grin, well aware of what's just happened. This is my life. Some exemplary picking will be required. Am I the man for the job? No, no I'm not. But I can wildly stab at the form with the worst of them, so here goes nothing. Good luck to The Crucible, thanks PJ, and for hopefully not the last time, go the Dark Horses!

    Good Draws

We are more concerned now about PRINCESS TIFFANY. The infection was under control when in one spot but it has spread and the fear is it could start to have wider effect which could mean more serious consequences. We can only wait to see how it plays out but not an ideal situation. The Fixer had a similar problem which worsened and he ended up out for five months. So we will have to see This could prove to be a very costly for the connections. Lets all hope she comes right

    New Track

P4P - you will get no argument from me re the lack of leadership/forward thinking at the NZTR historically, leading to a thoroughbred industry that is facing....lets just say hard times. However you have to admit that they have no control over the major things which provide the green stuff that keeps it all rolling.....the TAB, broadcasting agreements, the current shambles over the FOB platform, industry strategic plans (or lack of), etc. While your lack of criticism of the RB may be personal it seems the jumping off the ship recently of some board members is a sign that positive action is happening. I didn't vote for the grey fox and in fact I voted well left and I don't despise racing!!....and its not a policy of those parties either...... so I'm almost as sure as you are in your rant above that the Messara report will bring about major change....major positive change....

There will be a vacant spot on the rails in future Auckland Trots. No seriously one of my fav trainers and drivers. Always looked after his horses and they were always in a race to preform to their best without being thrashed. If not this week always the next. Hence the longevity of his horses especially his trotters. Loved backing them. Can vividly remember Bonnies Chance in the cup. Probably my biggest bet at the time. And was there for No Responses incredible win, Unbeleivible and untouched. still gives me goosebumps. Hope Mr Brosnan continues to dabble in his trotters and enjoys his retirement.

  25. Once again the TAB have excelled themselves with Pick Six guarantee just 25K. This is the second biggest meeting at Auckland for the year yet they just treat it as a country Sunday meeting. I make no apologies - Mr Allen you and your TAB buddies obviously do not have racing at heart. They will get the 25 k from the punters due to the status of the night so even if they had made it 30 K guaranteed I still reckon it would have cost them nothing. What a bunch of nillers they have turned out to be!!

  38. Ashburton abandoned due to state of track 28 April 2018 Due to the state of the Ashburton track, today's meeting has been abandoned. The track was inspected by Stewards, Club Officials and several Senior Horsemen who were unanimous that the track was unsafe due to the shifty nature of the surface and the visibility issues for drivers. Stewards also had concerns with an area of the track past the winning post where water was protruding from inside the pylons out onto the racing surface After discussions with the TAB, HRNZ and the Club a replacement date is not possible and the meeting has been officially abandoned. Easy decision to make i would have thought with H and S the way it is these days

Congrats to them indeed! Wouldn't it be great for the NZ racing media to give some local trainers here even 10% of the promo this stable gets on events in Singapore though? I know it's ready made for them , but the local coverage in NZ is appalling outside of about 4 stables in this country.

    Reliable Man

6 stakes performers from those 51 runners is a solid effort (11.7% stakes performers to runners in NZ & AUS) A lot of work to do as obviously a lot of runners that have shown nothing though to make out the stats, so a big gap between the handy ones and the rest. Hopefully can boost those percentages, has had big sized books and good quality so has been given every chance, up to him now.

Well the obvious thing here John is the owners could have shown more interest in the horse by giving it a good paddock to walk around for the rest of its life. They chose not to which indicates they were only interested in the commercial aspect, i.e. what they could get out of the horse. If others can't see this they have tunnel vision.

You miss the point. I too have a horse racing at yonkers which was sold last year .It ran 4 th this morning. Its not the sales thats the problem but the sale of an out and out champion. An 8 year old that was out of form (asking for retirement)couldnt win in his last 16 races in nz/aus. but had won 32 of 52 previously. Anow 9 year old again asking for retirement forced to keep racing is a disgrace to harness racing.
