Fancy running an Easter HP 3weeks after Easter absolutely ridiculous This race was formerly regarded as the number 1 mile in NZ It was stuffed by certain smart asses at the Auckland Racing Club

  2. Hi all - looks like big even fields at Te Rapa Saturday so a good meeting to run a competition at. This is funded through the generosity of Yir Tiz and Catalano as I am using $ I won in last weekends comp. Format this week is as follows 1. Pick one horse in each race at Te Rapa 2. An imaginary $1 EW will be placed on each horse 3. The entrant with the Highest $ total "collected" wins. 4. In the unlikely event of a tie for first place the prize is split between the two entrants with the highest $ figure. If more than two entrants tie for first I keep the $ and run another competition. 5. One entry each allowed. 6. Entries close at midday Saturday 7. Scratchings can be replaced up till midday Saturday but after that tough luck you don't have a runner in that race. 8. I'm allowed to enter and win ! Any other dispute etc my decision. Please post in following format (only 8 races so not too hard - I like seeing the names to make it easier to follow peoples picks)- Race 1 - 13 Williejonmcbride Race 2 - 1 Volce Velope ....... Cheers all and thanks Scooby for agreeing to pin this here.

  3. I might have a smidge of bias as well as I didnt back it with NZ TAB. Win some you lose some.

I hear Richard brosnan last runners Friday. A man of high integrity who never took a backward step.on a personal note a man who stood by me in tough times and I have never forgotten.who could forget no response and bonnies chance. I hope all in the industry recognize hs achievements.I know he don't want a fuss but I hope the atc has plans to recognize his career.

Dominion was worth $300,000 last year. Rowe Cup stake was $150,000 back in 2007. It did go up to $250,000 when racing got money from the Govt for a brief period. The ATC has boosted stakes at lower level while letting their feature races slip over the last decade. I imagine with the money they get from the development they will look at catching up.

    A legend retiring.

Richard's last drive is in Race 9 - Bopper Jet - how about all enthusiasts lining the bridcage rail and giving him a cheer & round of applause as he parades Bopper Jet prior to taking to the track for his last appearance at the park. Ric hard - thanks for all you have done to Harness Racing and especially to your long tenure as leader of the Owners Association. Happy retirement, mate!

    Good Draws

Since Jess Smith joined HRNZ I notice there is a bit more going on. She appears to be trying to increase the ownership base with more info on ownership and how to get into it, and hopefully reaching beyond normal horse racing people.. This is a positive and much needed strategy. Great to see people with drive and enthusiasm.

I wonder if the nz ers who got $2.5 mill/ then wanted a bit more watched todays race from yonkers as lesser horses all ran past Christen Me Surely even the "heartless" amongst us would have cringed to watch achampion treated this way. Just saying it is sad to see. (well covered prev posts)

That Rowe Cup field is bloody awful compared to years gone by. No Lyell Creek, Take a Moment, Merinai, I Can Doosit, or La Coocaracha in there....

I know I am somewhat biased, but Monty Python for good place divvie in the Rowe Cup. And our great wee Trotter Majestic Man in the Grt Northern. 3rd run in after a virus and out for six weeks. He should battle it out with Winterfell and could quite conceivably win it. We are very bullish about his chances

  16. Just stupidity. Surely the Munce example was a template for any jockey thinking about doing this. Just crazy. No one knows what happens behind close doors I suppose and who has got there claws into these jockeys.

  18. I took it to win in trifectas and miss out on a collect.... but have no problem with what the TAB have done. I think they should be congratulated in fact. Precedent is one thing - but it is discretionary on their behalf and I give them a pat on the back (tough luck offshore wise though Barry). also wouldn't be annoyed in the future if they didn't do it - bit like the Bosson thing for me - fact they did something generous in the past doesnt mean they have to all the time in the future...

    christen me n

Thanks Robert. We also have a horse overseas racing in Aussie. Obviously not a Christan Me but a very good bugger never the less . He won't be comming back. He was the reason I decided to get into ownership, and I will shed a tear when his racing days are over.v What ever the reason CM owners had for selling was their business, and theirs alone. Putting ones own emotive spin on it doesn't really help does it.

    New Track

Mine Host at the greatest bar in Auckland. I must take issue with your comments. I believe that Winston will do something good for the NZRB. You seem to have a hang up about NZTR. Almost an irrational hang up. Ok, we both know their handicapping is crap. But I feel the biggest problem is with the costs stuff up with the NZRB and I am hopeful that the Yid can bring this into sharp focus. I'll buy a dozen of the Bluff's best (because you have the best north of Dog Island) and explain it all to you when I am next at your wonderful venue. It would be an absolute pleasure if Berri was there to help me bring some omniscient thoughts to your brain.

    Per Incanto & Zacinto

In my humble worthless opinion , Per Incanto needs a big horse and soon otherwise he seems to be heading down the road of bread and Butter stallion a bit like a Sandtrap type stallion and I struggled to see how he stands for $15k 40% wnrs/rnrs . He is $5k more than a champion stallion in Pentire and $10k less than Pins! he also is twice the price of stable mate Nadeem who is currently hitting 67% wnrs/rnr and having had to do it the hard way mostly in Aus. Zacinto certainly seems and intriguing stallion going into his first crop of 3yos, in my eyes at this point in time if you had to choose between the two you'd be mad to not go to Zacinto such is his potential.
