  1. Absolutely Howie! I look forward to Saturday mornings because of this comp (and not having to go to work of course). What did Molloy call this comp? Dry? Boring?

  2. This has been one of the best ever PJ Super Comps, in my humble opinion, and I've been in most of them. They keep getting better and better. Leaves all other tipping comps in the shade. And a very big thank you to PJ for that ...and thanks also to all participants. Great entertainment every Saturday.

  4. Nice work team LDM. Always good when a plan comes off and now we go in to the last week still with an outside shot at the play-offs. Steve P marvellous tipping today!! Nice to have such a healthy aggregate too in the event of a tie - might be like an away goal. Howie and the AAs - unfortunately you caught us on one of our good days. I'm sure you'll bounce back next week - in fact, please do bounce back next week - we need your help.

  5. Absolutely admire the strategy, John and it will be a real coup for your team if you can indeed make the playoffs from where you were positioned. And of course it's not just a matter of all landing on the same horses ....they have to be the right horses ....and be double-figure odds winners to be really successful. And you've played that brilliantly ...with appropriate acknowledgement to that pesky Steve P ...one of the most successful selectors in recent PJ Comp history.

  6. And you were of course all together with Saffron Lady ! Man was I pushing that 'Big Mike' the final 100m .... and I wasn't even on it. Well done John and Lay Down Misere. Inspired decision. Another one of those and you'll be looking at a 5-pointer. I'm thinking we're gonna need to rally. Thankfully we've got a few long-shots in the arsenal.

  10. Very well done John, Gordy, Steve P, Rees and Tony. Truly outstanding performance by 'Lay Down Misere' today with a novel plan never seen before in the history of PJ Super Comps, and executed to absolute perfection with everything they touched turning to gold. We Double AAs got an absolute pasting but we've no problem with that ...it happens. Good fortune hasn't really run LDMs way through the first 12 rounds of the comp, so good on them for such a strong fight-back with a day for them to savour. Good luck next week for an equally successful result to see you in to the playoffs. And elsewhere, the brilliant TC goes 13 from 13 ! Astonishing. I've had TC's application to be considered for the Mighty Blues wider training squad, in my inbox for two or three weeks now, and I have to say he's presenting a reasonably strong case for inclusion. I'm thinking it won't belong before we have our people talking to TC's people. Thanks for your scoring and updates today, PJ. Much appreciated, as always. Roll on next Saturday. It can't come quickly enough ! Cheers, all.

  11. Yes occasionally you see one that makes an impression, even though they may not produce regularly, you see that ability now and again and know they can be special on their day. Last night when I saw Billy at Salsa win the first trot I thought that. The way he strode past them in the last 100 was very impressive. Interested to hear you comments if you were there in person for the first, which Im sure you would have been.

  15. It was a plan hatched out of desperation Howie. We need two 5-0 wins to have any shot at making the big show (and even that might not be enough). A 3-2 win wasn't going to cut it so we figured we needed some degree of uniformity in our selection. We settled on almost complete uniformity (with a little bit of discretion). Credit goes to Tony for hatching the plan and Steve P for that selection - he's our go to guy. but still a long way to go - I'd quote Mr Wolf from Pulp Fiction but this is a family show

    Choosing A Yearling

For sure....but what I can't understand, for the life of me, is why [ supposedly ] commercial breeders would spend money on travelling poorly-prepared and conformed horses to try and sell in the first place? I commented yesterday on a youngster working itself to a frazzle in its box, to be told ' oh, it's never been in a box before ' ....wtf? Bloodstock agents and many trainers are buying for the overseas market in a lot of cases, Asia and Australia, where stabling 24/7 is the norm. What is wrong with people? What do they expect? White Robe horses were, as always, standouts.

As this site is the best way to get a message to the Racing Industry, can we start a list of what he should be looking at. I'll start with getting NZ racing back on Free to Air TV.

You don't have the wrong race. Brodie distorts the facts to suit his own VERY bias narrative which is hatred of anyone that can be successful in their business. In fact, Bettor Joy has beaten the All-Stars in 6 races and surprise Delight in me finished 2nd 4 times to BJ. As an aside, the next 20 trainers in the premiership have trained 600 winners and the last 101 have yet to train a winner, reading here you would think Harness racing is finished if it is could someone tell those 400 horse trainers?

Give yourself an uppercut Fartoomuch. Noel Callow has been back in Victoria for the last two weeks and ridden a heap of winners including one at Caulfield today.

  24. Thanks Howie. You were right in your predictions about Geoff - both best bets won and one of those was a quinella. I was just lucky to nab a few winners in between (and lucky the rain came for Megablast). 13 from 13 doesn't count for much however if you don't make the play-offs.

  27. Memo Leo Why don’t you get on the List of your beloved National Party at the next election and become the next Racing Minister? Then all our problems will be solved! You wouldn’t have to extend yourself much to beat the record of those also rans Nathan Guy and David (Invisible Man) Bennett.

  35. Ian McKelvie’s comments on the racing industry are bordering on vandalism and betrayal. But I just don’t get what politicians don’t get about this racefields legislation? If after 15 years of incompetence, hidden agendas and bullying, why should anything surprise? National Party should bow their collective heads in shame, but they’re too arrogant to acknowledge through their inaction they have decimated an industry...whilst I welcome John Messara’s appointment, I can only pray the big ship which carries a lot of non paying passengers is decommissioned.

  36. OK, this is interesting. Boom or bust day for our opponents 'Lay Down Misere' today ...needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. And the first thing I note is that John, Steve P, and Rees have exactly the same selections in Races 1,2,3 (Best Bet),4,5, 7 (Best Bet), 8,9, 10. Somehow Rees went rogue in R6 and came up with something different from the others, as lack of concentration and insufficient attention to detail saw him wonder away momentarily from the script. Oh dear ...I was hoping I wouldn't have to strategise today, (cos it only hurts my brain when I start focusing on things ), but I s'pose I better phone Head Office in Ad Augusta Boulevard and ask to speak with the counter-tactics division to see what the geniuses can come with by way of a plan to repel what looks like is a sustained challenge today.

  37. Yes, that gets my back up, mentioned it to a committee man..... ooops Board man a few months back and you should have heard his response, no idea! We are going to put up new tie-up stalls, can you please tell me if it is true that one prominent NZ racing owner is paying for these? As I have always said, I love going to Ellerslie to race, but I can see in 5 years time, oh, we have to close down for the winter, off you go to Ruakaka, more cost to the owners! Fine having money in the bank, get a surface you can race on regularly, get the punters into a pattern, and you might just get a few back that NZ racing has chased away over the years!

  38. Yup Fartoomuch, she was a beaudee all the American stuff n all (little delicate, well possibly little more than this morning) but was a ripper night, except, oh woe me fav got beat, he came home like a freightliner tried hard but it wasn't to be.....but! hey Globe, your fella ran them a merry dance in the trot good stuff, but guys I gotta tell yuh that Winterfell, he's the goods looked a treat and guys, did it on his ear, I kid you not, lovely stridin trotter geezuz, just every now and then you see one pacer or trotter and they leave an impression, won't be his fault he don't win a few more..... Enteebee, I gave your fella a good cheer on the run home, it makes things so much more fun when there's one or two in there you know summit about ah bugger it, I cheer em all!!!! Cheers Iraklis

  41. John Messara can’t come soon enough!Tomorrow the time honoured Easter Handicap is to be run at Counties the stake being a pitiful $100,000. 20 years ago in 1998 the race was won by Aimee Jay ridden by Kelly Davidson. Yes the stake was $100,000.

    Not right.

A 30 year old woman has been advised to leave Gisborne as police and social services cannot protect her from gangs. She stood up to them with 3 gang members doing jail time because of her bold stand. What a f.....g disgrace. Only thought these type of things happened on TVand then a Stallone type character turns up and saves the day.Seems like good old nz ,or parts of it have turned into nogo zones. Certainly doesn't encourage law abiding citizens to turn in criminals.
