Now, I am always on thin ice here, so not gonna say much. But scooby, admin & p4p , it’s ironic that you have been giving each other shit for weeks, yet if anyone else had done the same, they would have been banned weeks ago? I am sure many on here are over the family squabbles? Just saying, hope I don’t get banned again for speaking out.4 points -

I raced one in a Te Akau syndicate out of Censibelle - No Nonsense. Was my first galloping winner actually - funny horse but had a bit of ability on his day. Te Akau "decided" he would suit Singapore - he didn't4 points -

Here is an idea Brodie. Why don't you get 2 or 3 million dollars together every year, buy up the best stock at the sales, then purchase the best multimillion dollar training facility. Feed them the best food money can buy and when all the yearlings have been broken in, discard the worst 80% giving you a team able to compete with the top trainers at the moment.3 points -

I thought I would put this up for what its worth. A wee while ago we, as a syndicate ,agreed to send our nice trotter Father Xmas to Aussie to race, and still under our ownership. The reason being that he had reached his mark just below the top rung and was finding it tough off of long marks . He was sent to Brent Lilly, at Melton. He has had 3 starts so far for a third and two wins. He won today at Boort, in track record time ,from 10 mtrs and won by 15, doing it tough in the middle stages with Chris Alford up. My point being, I couldn't give a f---k what the Purdons are or aren't doing frankly. Today wasn't a group 1, it wasn't at a premier track. But what it has got is a battling trainer at grass roots level achieving things in his own right, with owners (and there were lots glued to there screens today) cheering him and the horse on. Its things like this that keep an industry ticking over despite what some may think. Long live the others3 points -

I think the 'fire axe' referred to the pacer Vanderford becoming panicked on a plane....Powley was on a very rough ferry crossing and died as a result ....dehydration and associated stress....as a result of that horror crossing NZ Rail altered the criteria for livestock crossing Cook Strait.3 points -

I am a Football man but many years ago I worked in Wellington in a group of 8 and 6 of my colleagues were Sheep Shaggers. They were unbrearable when the subject of Rugby came up always banging on about Canterbury. However, when I found out that their mascot was a sheep I played it for all that it was worth. . So every year when the Hurricanes v The Shaggers I watch with great interest and when the Hurricanes win it is just so sweet.1 point

STOP PRESS NEWS!! We have a $500 banquet and booze prize thanks to Pounders generous (as always!) match up for $250. Having spent many a time dining and wining at his many watering holes over the years (Euro was my fave) it's no surprise his generosity is on display. However, we now have another highly generous supporter of the Slipper Comp, in the form of YIR TIZ ! YT has offered to provide $100 towards a Limo/Corporate Cab to get you to HQ and Home again. How about that!! Good on YT for enhancing the offer to Cafers - many thanks for doing this. Now, don't forget, it's the "FIRST CORRECT ENTRY RECORDED IN THIS THREAD". In other words, if there are more than one who get the F4 in correct order, the first correct entry recorded wins!! So don't be late in entering. I also have another condition. If you win then the name behind the Nom De Plume must be one of the diners. You can't transfer it to a 3rd party and not front yourself. This is a comp for Racecafe people. Cheers and good punting!1 point

Trained by the great Dave Kerr (and Jan of course). For Nick Wigley out of calico queen (? Sp I think ) who was imported and by the stud thoroughbred teaser - go figure) Does bode the question that I think (subject to your feedback) that Dave Kerr is the last South Island based trainer to train a group one winner in Australia (elders Handicap then Doncaster now) - is that right? michael pitman has a chance to break that now and I hope for his sake he does. It’s overdue.1 point -
I believe she is resting at waterlea racecourse, although stand to be corrected, what a heartbreaker that was, i've never forgot it, was a huge fan of her, she was by noble bijou and Canterbury belle by Beaufort sea i think, always liked the progeny of that sire, think he had a horse in one of the cup races, call melco or something similar, used to follow sharebroker also a handy type in his day. When was the blue magic scandal? Weren't all involved parties charged, fined, suspended at the time (years ago)? LongOwner your loyalty to your stable is commendable; but it's a fact they have a recent record of dubious raceday practices. Non accountability, finger pointing and the favour they appear to carry with those in high places leaves a very sour taste with many participants. You may be comfortable with 'a little caffine'. As owners we want our horses competing on a level playing field within the rules and as such find attitudes like this a bloody disgrace!1 point

I remember that well...it still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck just watching. What an unbelievable horse, no wonder he was so cranky with the pain he must have suffered from his bad feet...and yes, the stories of some of the 'methods' used....! Wouldn't happen now, one would like to think. My father was on the committee of the old Canterbury Park trotting club, before it amalgamated with the Met...I always followed harness racing as a child.1 point -

Is that the same as Harcourts having a 70% share in real estate or Bunnings forcing small hardware stores to close or Toyota dominating the new car industry. Should they all turn customers away and tell them to go else where and support all the struggling smaller businesses. They are the leaders in their chosen areas just as the All Stars are. Its up to the rest to improve and try and increase their market share or try a different approach to survive. This is the way it is in the "free world" with democratic rules or are you suggesting we should look at a communist style where we are all equal and no one rises above the rest. Not for me thanks Brodie.1 point -

You're not alone in backing horses that like to follow other horses, like taking lotto tickets and living the dream. I remember the old Trumpet ice cream ads, "One day Roger Phipps, One day"1 point -
I struggle with $18m down the gurgler on Typhoon and, if the numbers being bandied around by Brian de Lore are correct, another $30m up in front costs to get this package up and running. Then, once it goes live, an annual license fee to Paddy Power of $17m or so. It's flawed, however the NZRB is pregnant with the deal. All of this has nothing to do with NZTR although realistically it does. Because, since the Racing Act came to be, NZTR, HRNZ, GRNZ and the 4 wise independent directors, if you include the Chair, have sat there and nodded their heads as know it all experts in this sphere of fully understanding what it takes to deliver NZ's betting software package. The Board not once but twice has approved these moves. Back in 2008 Graeme Nahkes was tasked with performing the very first 5 yearly "Effectiveness and Efficiency Audit" of the NZRB being a statutory requirement of the 2003 Racing Act. Salient words he wrote back then...."to the degree to which the NZRB remains a ‘statutory monopoly’ it will continue to be the subject of suspicion that it is bureaucratic, well resourced and overly ‘leisurely’ in its approach to its affairs. The experience of other organisations that have undergone a transition process like this organisation , suggests that further significant performance improvement should be expected" His report was significantly watered down and for his services he was sacked with Michael Stiassny appointing KPMG to do the next audit in 2013. Published in 2014, it was a patsy report. Quite simply from the NZRB's position of having over $60m available funds in reserves and then receiving an annual windfall in Duty relief of $35m+ to then get to a current day position of being in debt, beggars belief. Perhaps some out there may be aware of who is putting the current "Effectiveness and Efficiency Audit" together? Many of those who've watched this debacle unfold over the past 15 years could write the contents for this edition. In 1982 a guy walked into the Whanganui Computer Centre and, before blowing himself up, graffitied the words "We have maintained a silence closely resembling stupidity" hmmm....1 point

Just announced on RACENET that he is off to Melbourne and has to trial there, they are hoping the change of scenery will do the trick!. Had to smile at this comment that someone had in comments.... An open letter from Chautauqua to his connections:- Dear connections, I know that sometimes you think I’m being difficult or stubborn or just plain quirky, and that at this very moment you all feel like pulling your hair out, but actually I’m still a very sensitive creature, and I want you all to realise that I’m actually trying to tell you something very important. I’ve had enough...yep, you read this correctly. I’m tired. No more early mornings for me. I want to feel the soft grass under my hooves and the wind in my mane. I may decide in the future to help out the young rascals on the track and guide them as clerk of the course, but I will do it on my terms when I’m good and ready. I want to retire. If you feel like running, then by all means you give it a go. Please remember I thank you all for the thrills of the racing scene, but I’m hanging up my shoes for good. With kindest regards as always, Your Chautauqua xx1 point
