  1. You would want to ask the question of the credentials of Deloittes to be undertaking an enquiry or consultancy anyway. Insofar as I know Deloittes are hardly a major benefactor of NZ Racing. Preparing a report into the future of NZ Racing(and I haven't bothered reading it as it will no doubt be more of the same tripe we have been served time and time again) would surely require some in depth knowledge of the industry not just a poncy letterhead? The West Coast has had multiple 'Economic Development Studies' done in my time invariably by 'Deloittes' types - I reckon the only thing that has changed is that originally the consultant rode up on a pushbike and now he rolls up in Mercedes Benz

  2. Sounds like my wife, can remember laughing at her theory of combining similar themed names , until she quinelled Walt's Task and Minnie's Magic, and it paid over $ 200. First date we had was at the races and she used combination of numbers like 1 and 13 and linking names as above. You wouldn't believe it I was backing on the nose and eight races in a row she won and I got second. Finally in frustration, I sneaked in behind and heard what she took, so backed that. Well the ******* ran second and I said to her well your number combinations didn't work for once, she said oh yes it did, I went back later and backed 13 and won again.

Hi Iraklis, Changing the line of talk a bit. Living in Matamata as I do, the thoroughbred dominates the horse talk usually, but right now we have Harness Superstars, Vincent, and have, or are expecting shortly, Lazarus to join our horse ranks for treatment and rest. I am picking that most of the town is not aware of who these horses are, and in their area. I will be my best to change that. Cheers. Robert.

Wouldn't mind owning the dog Image Dragon. Won at Cambridge by 13 1/2 lengths in 25.73 and run that with an injury that incurred a 28 day stand down, Quite lucky they took away the rule that if you have had a previous Non chasing stand down and they do it again , Injured or not its strike 2 and 3 months.

  13. Here's a new competition for those who wish to enter... but you just might need to see into the future in regards to final nominations/acceptances and also the weather/tracks conditions. Try and pick the winners of both the Derby and Oaks from the the list of thoses still there. BUT ENTRIES CLOSE MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY 28 FEBRUARY. if both your horses WIN I will put $200 on whatever horse{s) you want after the Oaks. Consulation prize of $100 if you pick the winner of the Derby but not the winner of the Oaks, decided by whoever finishes closest to first place. If multiple winners the prize will be shared. If your selections dont make the field, are scratched or late scratched etc, then bad luck Good Luck.

    NZ DERBY WINNER on breeding.

Who looks the winner on breeding and recent form? I think that Civil Disobedience (a John Foote/D Weir purchase), XBox, On The Rocks and Mission Hills are the most likely. Any thoughts?

  15. Today race 11 at Addington result is 6/1/5 but on the podium is 6/1/7 and a nose margin between 3rd and 4th, looking at replays it looks to my eye 7 got 3rd.... Who should be held accountable?Stipes? for incorrect dogs on the podium with such a small margin? if we are to believe the result is 6/1/5.

  18. Yes I agree everyone makes mistakes in life I have made plenty, but I can't see anyone taking responsibility for the mistake, to not happen again. Stewards are paid a decent salary why was this not mention in the stipes report. 1. Who told the handler his dog was 3rd? Stewards this is a good starting point to find how this human error occurred. 2. Trackside should've informed the viewers that this was a mistake on the podium and official result is 6/1/5 as the margin is only a nose. Yes Trackside were aware as I informed them and their response was to call Racing Integrity Unit, I called and they advised me its not their responsibility but they will inform the Stewards on course and get back to me ASAP still waiting! 3. Now I believe no message was passed on to the Stewards, due to no mention in the stipes report. Racing Integrity Unit won't try and correct the issue from not happening again, Stewards on course obviously don't care or not aware either is a bad look.

  19. Not doubting for a minute RV stuffed up, as clear as the nose on your face, however, the elephant in the room, is that two leading trainers had no idea a rogue vet with mental issues was loose on their horses. The connection between Sam K and the Vet should have rung alarm bells, the fact they paid so much for the concentrated vitamins et al. It's too far gone to go into now, and the esteemed Judge said they had no knowledge, so we must believe him and move on.......so if the two trainers sue RV? what happens then? and the rogue vet, the mental issue one, is roaming the industry, well attending races.......but that's there and we are here, we have good solid policing and governance in this county don't we, in those we trust!........NZ leads the world in racing transparency, and everyone is honest and above board......

  21. Most importantly, they are going to sue Flemington Vet Centre for 10 mil.......and reserve their right to do same to Racing Victoria.........it makes one think does it not? why oh why do we do this, rise early, work our guts out all day, suffer the weather, play for very small stakes and when it comes to trusting our governing body, look what happens.......RV stuffed the prosecution case, or their legal counsel did, and two people who presented horses to race overloaded with Cobalt and knew nothing, are free to roam the industry, the vet claimed mental illness and yet is seen happy as Larry at the races,,,,all this over the sea in Aus, but we are not so free here either, some very dubious cobalt cases that left most gasping.......what a world we live in.....in the wash up it's about friends and family, health and happiness......embrace everyday and think of those that can't........Cheers and Best......La Zip.

Exactly what I was thinking. Not a bad mile time for a stayer at the end of a long and arduous prep, with a virus and from barrier 8. I doubt he could run 1.46.9 from the inside barrier with the trail. The same way he couldn't get close to those at the front over one mile run at such a fast clip, most of those wouldn't see which way he went over 2400-3200. As was suggested above, it retrospect tagging on the back and hoping for an inside run would of been the go, but even then I think he'd still not of beaten at least the first three home in that time.

    Sales Time

Hi Brodie, There is a solid contingent of Kidz Kart young harness people coming through, and all bodes well for the future of grassroots harness racing. Last Friday night at Alexandra Park there was 14 horses in their race, and some names closely associated with harness racing, and surprisingly, thoroughbred racing. As an owner it is hard racing against a dominate stable, but I think right now is the ideal time to be getting a yearling, as the Allstars have clearly decided to cut down on the number of young horses they wish to train. Of course, it does not mean that they may not still get the results with the reduced amount of yearlings, but it does give others a chance to realistically compete, Cheers. Robert.

    For the lads!

Great publicity for the sport. We need human interest stories that show the industry in a positive light to take the sport to a wider audience. I have said before, Sheree Tomlinsion winning our biggest trotting race and becoming the 1st woman and youngest driver to win the race on the biggest long shot in the history of the race needed to get main stream media attention. Good on these drivers and the officials who organised this campaign.

    Jacinda Ardern

I think that this is worth a read especially as it was written by a woman. Women really do have it all by Christie on February 25, 2018 at 12:30pm We are always hearing about how we should have more women everywhere – in Parliament, in boardrooms, as judges – you name it, we need more women there. But there are already women in all of these roles. And women are amply represented in medicine, in aviation, in engineering, in education. Frankly, they are everywhere. And, this is great. Women are educated, capable, and can give an enormous amount to their chosen professions. And to misquote Justin Trudeau, it is 2018. So we expect to see women succeeding. They choose what to study. They choose their careers. They choose to look after their children. They choose to juggle work and family. Women can decide for themselves what they will do, and they are all very good at it. But in 2018, women are still treated like a special interest group. When will everyone learn that true equality will only ever be achieved by allowing women to be what they want when they want and exactly how they want? Because that is how things are in the world of men. So why do we still bang on about a quota system? There should be 50% women MPs, says Labour. The Greens insist on having a female co-leader, which they do not need. It made the news that the number of female lawyers has overtaken the number of males. This is not news – the accountants managed this a few years ago – but hear me loud and clear – SO WHAT? I am a woman so I can say this. A man CAN’T say this unless he wants to be branded as a filthy chauvinist, but it is true nonetheless. Women can do anything, and we can thank the generosity of men and the effects of two world wars for getting us to where we are now. But all this posturing has to stop. Quota systems degrade all women. Every time a woman is appointed to a senior role, everyone wonders if she was really the best ‘man’ for the job – or was she given the role because she is a woman? There is no getting away from it – quota systems degrade all women. Plus, it is not as if we need it. Margaret Thatcher became PM of Britain in 1979. Indira Ghandi became Prime Minister of India in 1966. Amelia Earhart flew solo across the Atlantic in 1932. Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903. These may have been trailblazing women in their own time, but the roads are well and truly worn down now. And yet, when Jacinda Ardern became the third female Prime Minister of New Zealand, everyone behaved as if something amazing had happened for womankind. (Sorry, Justin – Personkind – must be inclusive.) People from all over the world rushed in breathlessly to commend her, and New Zealand, on their forward thinking. Nobody seemed to care that a vacuous female with no work experience had just been propelled into the role of Prime Minister, for which she was woefully unprepared. It seems that everyone can ignore all that when a woman takes the top job. An unskilled, untrained, inexperienced woman, that is. Imagine if a vacuous male with no work experience had been appointed as Prime Minister. What would the fawning media have had to say about that? Yep – you guessed it – #toomanymen, #ohsomale. #needmorewomen. Etcetera, etcetera ad nauseam. But here is the thing. So long as women are treated as a special interest group, there will be no level playing field. Jacinda may turn out to be an excellent competent Prime Minister, but at the moment, she is the new Messiah. In the end, she can only fail, because the expectations of someone extremely average are massive. So what does this do for women who really are excellent at their job? It does absolutely nothing because everything is slanted in their favour anyway. That’s the trouble. Winston didn’t think Jacinda was the best man for the job. He believed he could get more out of her than out of the other lot. He knew she was pregnant and made sure he would get a stint at the top job. All good reasons for Winston to install her as Prime Minister, which he did. But hardly a ringing endorsement for womankind, is it? “The new leader of National needs to be a woman.” No. It needs to be the best person for the job, whoever that is. “Only a woman can tackle Jacinda in the House and get away with it.” Really? So women are not equal to men after all because a man questioning Jacinda will result in her dissolving into a pool of tears? Even I think Jacinda is better than that. Why though? Are women not tough enough to survive in the hard world of politics? Margaret Thatcher seemed to do OK. But the difference is that she had to prove that she was as capable as any man. In 1979, this was groundbreaking for women. No one batted an eyelid at the time. Whereas the rise of Jacinda has been treated like the Second Coming. In 2018? Why is that? So ladies, suck it up before someone realises what a crock it all is. You already get a year’s maternity leave with paid parental leave, and you can’t be fired while you are pregnant. That is not equality, that is pure and simple favouritism. You can shop around for a new position while on maternity leave, while your employer has no choice but to hold your job open for you. You can be appointed Director and work three days a week, taking the other two days to look after the kids. Find me a man that can qualify for all that! And Parliament is about to be turned into a creche – no one will be able to hear the Speaker over babies crying in the House. How many male MPs will bring in babies to bottle feed? I’m sure the answer will be none – and not because they are filthy chauvinists, but rather because the House is not actually a great place for a baby. And there are other things you can get away with. Teresa Gattung got thunderous applause for saying that, if a woman had been in charge of Fletcher Building, they wouldn’t have made big losses. She conveniently forgot that, in 2013, Mainzeal, which did have a woman on its Board, went broke. But never let the facts get in the way of a good story – particularly when no one, especially not a man, dares to contradict you. In my working life, all I have ever wanted was to be employed for my skills – both technical and interpersonal. If there was a better candidate, male or female, then I lost out. And so it should be. Women appointed to roles solely because they are women are being set up to fail. And I cannot imagine why anyone would ever want that. I’m glad women get more and more opportunities these days. But please stop treating us like a special interest group. Most of us really do deserve better. (ends) Funnily enough there is no mention anywhere of a quota system in the education field where male teachers are only represented by 14% of the teaching work force. Might explain why we are getting so many "snowflakes" these days. .
