  1. Well done today VV and beaut stuff Maureen polish up that shield for another defence. Just watched the movie Secretariat.. seen it 20 times but still cry at the end .. what a horse and a very good sire of strong dams .. interestingly there is a freshman sire in USA, Violence, son of Medaglia D'oro .. with two lots of Secretariat on the dam side.. and he's started off pretty well, so I'll be keen to see how he progresses. Bit of trivia for you on the last day of the year Another day up our sleeve yet Sleighers - have a brilliant New Year's Eve and let's hope that 2018 starts off by being kind to us! Have a safe and VERY happy new year everyone!

  5. Listening to the three harness wafflers on track side today had me almost running to the toilet to have a vomit! I have never heard so much rubbish on a racing channel for many years. If the most interesting topic you can discuss is when you last had a sausage roll no wonder the harness game is struggling. What a load of rubbish!

  6. Think I have spotted a couple today: First one is Madam Woo paying $2.13 to finish ahead of Spree in Race 1 at Ellerslie. Very nice run last start in a reasonable maiden field, running home strongly from the back of the field - 3rd run back from a spell. I don't think Spree beat a strong field last start and on a quick back-up after 46 days between runs. Madam Woo better than 50% chance in my mind.

  10. No matter which side of the fence you sit on in this thread Vincent and the All Stars team did their bit and bolted in. The punter won 15K. Well done to him and the TAB for accepting the bet.

  11. Hey Brodie awhile back you said no one could get 10k on a harness horse and that it was blatant lies if anyone suggested they could. Time to wipe the egg off your face to start 2018?

  12. Spikecity

    Franklin Cup Night

You have gone very quiet. What a performance 7 wins from the 8 races they contested including trifecta's in the two biggest races. Imagine the TAB would have gone a decent hiding today even if the resident expert says there isn't any money to be made backing the Purdon horses.

  13. Good luck to the punter. Its his money to do what he likes with it.

  14. I too thought you were advocating fewer tracks and fewer meetings. But regardless of that, I don't actually agree that there are too few horses for the current programme, there are still plenty of horses out there. Tauranga could have split one race into three fields. It is largely down to incompetent programming. In the SI for instance there is no 2yo race during the entire wider holiday period. So that is one type of horse eliminated totally. There is only one 3yo race, and that is over 1,200m. Believe it or not there is only one racemeeting with feature type stakes in the SI for 5 weeks, so anyone with a decent rating 65, 70, 75 etc who wants to keep them for better stakes can only race once. And wait for this one; there is no racemeeting with feature stakes anywhere in Canty between 18 Nov and 27 Jan, 11 WEEKS, so all Canty horses can do is largely travel to race for industry meeting level stakes. So there are horses out there, but they are not being utilised properly. There is no pattern to our racing and no imagination. With everything now being centrally run and funded the clubs have largely stopped bothering with anything innovative. Programming 7 and 8 races doesn't help, and it means half of the horses aren't racing in their proper class or over their preferred distance, which makes sensible punting vitually impossible. There is no incentive for clubs to gain sponsorship as everyone just runs for the same stakes levels, and trainers don't even notice a club that might have added $2,000 extra to a stake for a certain race, they just have to race when they happen to find a race for the right class and distance. Largely it is down to incompetence and has nothing to do with money or anything else.

  15. ' Vidi Vici ' v ' Sleighed'em' Opponents Casper (VV) & Jen (SE) have both Best Betted the final 2 races, the genius Casper on fire again today and presently holding a handy lead. But with BBs`Jen is not out of this yet. Now for the penultimate race, Casper with his BBs on Bizzwinkle (can Jasmine Fawcett do anything wrong ?) and Georgethefifth (surely Tony Allan deserves this). Jen with her BBs on Dramatist and Terracotta Warrior (both definite`chances for sure). PJ only slightly behind one HowieRightFirstTime and with the chance to launch ahead for the first time today with his BBs on Saint Kitt ( the horse`that's been there and done that ), and Cassie Anne (her swansong as she retires with this race according to what I heard on Trackside earlier). John and Wrinkles ' match is super close, with John looking to Light Em Up to keep him ahead, Wrinkles looking to Piece of Kate to snatch the lead. Mr Gee can snatch the lead in his matchup with Hall if Georgethefifth or Terracotta Warrior gets up; Hall can hold on with Cruiser or Alarmist. So, 4-1 to VV with only two races to go, but three of the five matches with very little separating them, and can go either way. You'd have to say that VV have the advantage, but only just. Don't go anywhere folks ...this is going to the wire.

  16. The 3yo Yearling Sales race this afternoon has all the ingredients to possibly be the race of the season so far! The last time these horses met Butcher went the mad attack on King Of Swing only to drop out and run near last. From barrier one you'd imagine he only has one plan today, and that'll be to lead for as long as he can, at whatever cost! Throw in B Mangos and J Dunn off the front line, 3 topliners and a potential superstar representing the Blue Army, plus a couple of other outstanding southern colts, and this race should be fireworks from start to finish! I'm picking Ultimate Machete's 2200m NZ record of 2.36.1 is in serious danger of being replaced in the record books. As much as I enjoy watching great horses go round, it's when great horses do great things in great contests, that the hairs on the back of the neck really stand up. Today may just be one of those days!

    u kidding

Ellerslie and TeRapa are my two favourite tracks, but for holiday racing, Taupo killed them all. Nice family environment, picnic at the car, drink your own beer and wine, super day out. You can entertain your owners, enjoy the racing, and in the public area was there any problems, no chance.

  32. I think that ' Vidi Vici ' have the title in the bag today. That's the smart word around the traps. Good to see that some members of other outfits have turned up today and posted as above ....not sure about your team-mates, they may make it in time, but then again they could be hiding. . Just a thought ! My first thought in 2018, and hopefully not the last.

  43. Ditto Hesi. Driving back on Southern Motorway, a spanner, or something similar, flew off a double trailer thundering past...it hit the bonnet and left a nice dent, then bounced up and hit the windscreen right in front of my wifes face...by the grace of God, and X5 reinforced glass, it bounced off and over....I've just been down to buy that Lotto ticket.....

    Somewhat Ironic

Agreed WD. Wairarapa must be very happy that they dodged a bullet by not joining Race. If they had joined, by now a significant slice of their beautiful course at Tauherenikau would have been sold off to repay some of Race's massive debt.

  46. Trump

    Dumb and dumber

I don't understand. If their Watch (I assume the Strapper's Watch) was on Melb time, then he/she should have arrived on course an hour earlier! Someone has either slept in or it's a lame excuse. They wouldn't have travelled to the course from Ballarat, so this is interesting. If they were stabled in NSW somewhere, then they should arrive earlier not later. Interesting.

Tks mate no one makes me do it and run into plenty of road blocks.I am quite optimistic at themoment.but the north needs more horses to make better betting and increase the turnoverI love quinellasbut the pools too small can't have a cracked as u cut your own throat. Fixed prices qui ellas would suit me but I have no doub t the tab would give them a severe haircut.
