  1. Bit tough on Prom Queen Berri. She has won eight of nine but ' ..... lord help us if that's is the best we can come up with'? What more could she have done other than win the other start? She could well be a champion in the making. And as for shifting it north which Northern fillies can you identify who would strengthen the field and if there are any why have their trainers not come south? I think you will find that the dreadful spring weather is the reason for the lighter than usual field quality and numbers wise and indeed that and the road issues are the reason for the lack of Northerners at the cup meeting this year. What it does do is give the Southerners a crack at some good stakes and hey why not? I think the racing has been of reasonable standard, bar the 2000 Guineas rough house carry on , and at the end of the day the South deserves it's day in the sun.

  3. Not that anyone will give a flying toss , but here is how Mrs Cubes sees the Grand Final... Hurricanes versus the Bluemeisters The Crucible wins , Gordy not so much John is victorious , Geoff ( Whom Cubity holds in just about the toppest regard in these comps ) loses this time around Cubes obviously loses , Pete wins Hesi triumphs , Brian comes up short this time Porky greets the judge , Howie crashes and burns Let us allow the therom of the lucky dartboard to have one-point of slippage and therefore : CANES 3 / BLUES 2

    Racing

What a stupid thread. The more races a dog has proves one thing, it is sound, and should be allowed to race as long as it stays in that condition regardless of starts. They are race dogs after all, and as long as they are competitive, age nor starts should stop them. I like to see older dogs with many starts under their belt still doing what they love doing. It all comes down to trainer management and placement.

These people you refer to chevy are not just away from our shores. Sit down with any Primary school Principal and they will tell you plenty of stories about the number of waste of space NZers spitting out tonnes of kids who are destined to repeat the cycle. These Waste of spaces are incapable of looking after themselves, least of all a young impressionable child. The dumbing down of NZ society is happening before our eyes and the social and criminal problems that exist today will be dwarfed by whats around the corner.

  10. Well first things first I am not Morty(he goes by the name Midget you might be aware or has amnesia struck you?) I am afraid if you are worried about the comparison with international fields that horse has well and truly bolted. It would not matter where in NZ you ran those races the standard would not be up to the best Aussie class. Witness Sharrock's reluctance to test Kawi(our 'best') in Aussie again despite spending the last four years telling us how he was going to deal with them when he matured What I mean by decent fields is decent betting fields and a selection of good riders not suggesting they are high class lineups. Most importantly the South is getting a decent share of the stakes

  11. Yeah well should the southerners be put at a disadvantage if they want to contest the race by travelling north and shagging their season? You only need to look how form dips after Southern horses go to the Wellington Cup. Travel is an unfortunate fact of life and bear in mind the Northerners can get flights south whereas there is no regular flight north. I don't think the fields are too bad this carnival - some of the supporting races have been excellent betting fields I know I am biased but I am tipping Pitty to have a huge day today.

  12. Tactical affair this week? Normally 2 or 3 Blues would have posted by now. Memo must have gone out - "post late team, post late!!" Canes trying to throw them off their game with some abnormally early posts. R1: 1/2 R2: 1/2 R3: 1/7 R4: 2/10 R5: 3/6 R6: 3/9 bb R7: 1/8 R8: 1/2 bb R9: 6/11 R10: 2/8 All the best to our Reds team-mate, Gordy and good luck to all of the Blues, but go the mighty Canes! Peter - thanks very much for the comp.

  19. This is probably a good chance for me to say thanks for all the support you have shown the Cookie Clan throughout this club and I am sure our big pay day will come soon. Think we need a well earned spell for everyone and hope we all come back fresh next year ( I wont call for numbers for next year yet as still over 2-3 months away if we kick off on Wellington Cup day again but hope we are all back next year and maybe even some returner next year get Mossey to pull Gruff's leg ) But some food for thought in the break any changes people would like to see and any gripes on the way we do things ( constructive feedback though please ) One thing for me is do we instead of having 2 goes each do we just all have 1 go and bet a larger crack or would the people drawn week 19 get bored of having to wait 4 months odd to bet?

Gotta love Kenny Rae's comments on the naming of his star on TV3 news last night. "Out of a mare called Finishing School, which produces Prom Queens , who are usually Super Easy!" No PC with a Westie.

  25. Being older, I really enjoy the substantive basis of Brian de Lore’s articles in the Informant. I came through a communication era of challenged information, outside of conformity Brian delivers a subjective questionnaire of the figurative leaders of our state. He needs to be applauded, for he provides question marks where previously full stops prevailed. The nature of the revelations of his articles question whether the management of the RIB are “fit for purpose”. You can answer the questions individually because you are impacted by that question. I would say the balance sheet says NO. Let me put it this way, in 1996 exports for NZ wine were $60m, thoroughbreds were the same. Yes a lifetime to some, nowadays, they are looking at 1 $billion in 2018. We are lagging behind by furlongs. We were exporting product in 1996 at $90m, this coming year maybe $106m. I know bottles can increase in production terms, horses don’t at the same rate, but the incentives and trade input has not been the same. What does this reflect............cannabilisation. NZRB seems to think the same can prevail now. J Allen thinks he can grow the business from a small base, against international competition from all corners, then he is a legend in his own bathroom. The industry needs a return to investors, be it by returns on investment or a relief for investment, then some assurance can be gained for doing so. The plonkers in The RIB have a) no risk b)no understanding of betting and most of all c) no comprehension of how the industry in NZ works. When you you get people with or without experience governing the show, then you will have an example like Fletchers on the share market, difference being you can sell your shares. Not us...........we just have to suck it up...........that’s why we have no say part form B de Lore. Sad state of affairs....................

    Fail To Score Up.

Race 6 yesterday at Addington Alta Orlando wouldn't budge when asked to score up behind the mobile and was not scratched. At the gallops if a horse fails to enter the starting stalls it is late scratched which is fair to the punter. I can understand if a horse breaks in the score up it is still deemed a starter as it seems the actual race starts before the starting point is reached. However to not even start to score up is surely a non starter and should be late scratched to be fair to the punter. Am I wrong?

One last effort lads to put away these pretenders from the capital Good luck to Cubity - I think you have an unfair advantage with so many races on the your home track but we'll cope. May the best team win and hopefully there will be another comp in the New Year - I love these competitions.

  31. Am I wrong with the following? We're these facts or fabrication? Please set me right here! What I find interesting in this whole matter is the cash payments for vitamins? Why do you pay exorbitant amounts of CASH for a small bottle of vitamin formula and try to cover it up? If it's legit, why don't you want it on the books? Why was the 2nd phone never openly disclosed? As a byline, I also see the supposedly responsible Vet was on course during the recent Flemington carnival. I love the fact this situation was only uncovered as the "vitamins" were sent to David Hayes in error ... That "edge" has cost not only DOB & MK but the entire racing industry...

Aussie won't let them into NZ because they know full well it will give them a back door entry back to Australia. Ardern would have to convince them that wouldn't happen...and of course she can't. Yet another example of Labour bluster with no end product.
