Ardern is a communist who has never held a job in the real world and thinks that taxing more and spending more will fix everything. She has just been talking about eliminating child poverty and making waterways clean. Are those really serious enough problems in NZ to change government over? Things were going pretty well and NZ was the envy of most other developed countries in running a budget surplus and having a strong economy and providing jobs for New Zealanders. As soon as this decision was announced the NZ dollar fell, which will mean all imports are more expensive. Yea a few breeders who sell on the Asian market may benefit but this is pretty much limited to a few of the bigger players in the breeding industry. See how much flows down to the small time breeders and owners. Labour and the Greens are not supporters of racing, particularly the Greens. They see it as elitist and the Greens will be wanting to ban jumps racing the minute they see a horse break down. Peters is just an opportunist only out for what he can get for himself. At his age this is probably his last throw of the dice so he doesn't care what damage he causes to his party or the country. He lost his seat so now he is out for all he can get before he retires to Kerikeri. He may have snared the Racing Minister job but only so he can swan around in the Presidents Room at Ellerslie on Boxing Day, drinking free whisky. Don't see him undertaking any major overhaul of racing. What he did last time around hasn't saved racing. Heaven help NZ, it will need it.

What I don't support Liz is your notion of a fairer society as that's code in the Labour party for some poor bastard pays disproportionately for someone else choices that were not so smart. However I am prepared to cut the new Govt some slack & hope like f--k they get things right for the better interests of all of us. Winston has removed the greens which is great & squashed most of labour's policies so are you really going to see the change you want Liz?. Labour has sold its soul for power & for them its going to be short lived the ride I fear.

Deputy Prime Minister? What a joke NZ has become. A multi time loser, Peter's, decides that minor parties rule. Watch this space. In 3 years time, the money will be spent, debt piled up AGAIN and they will be thrown out with the trash. I thought nz'ders were smarter than that. But then again, when a failed loser, who has been unwanted by the electorate, gets to choose who governs NZ, the system is stuffed. Watch house prices plunge!

What a fucked up system. A bloke who lost his own seat and whose party got a million votes less than National, decides....??? His comment that " Capitalism is the enemy of New Zealanders" should have a hell of a lot of people very worried.

So you've got a babysitter for PM and a pensioner who got the arse from the electorate big time - himself. His party gets 5/8th's of f..kall votes, yets decides who governs. It doesn't really bother me who wins, I've supported Hawke/Keating, Helen Clarke, John Key, John Howard. But please, don't tell me that you Insider, are happy to have a NZ First get 4 frigging seats! Plus Deputy Pm (even with f..kall votes) the Greens and a 37 yo Pm and Labour govern? If you are then you are obviously ready for euthanasia. I remember Winston in a Corporate Tent at the races in Tauranga. He came back into the Corp "Tent" after we had been watching race ( which my horse won) and he sat down in my Mothers seat and started drinking her white wine. He wasn't even on our table ffs!! On seeing this, my Mother said, " I think Sir, that you are in my seat and you are drinking my wine". No Madam, said Winnie, this is my seat and my glass. My 80yo Mother, who was much sharper than Winnie, then replied, " Well then Sir, you must be wearing the same shade of lipstick as me!". I'll never forget his face as he got up apologetic and went bro his own table. And this guy is your Kingmaker and Deputy PM Insider! You live in a lefty town so I'm not surprised that you think today is good for NZ. After 3 years of freebies, proof will be in the pudding.

departed what fatuous nonsense! Calling Jacinda Ardern a Communist is as wrong as me labelling any Tory P.M. a Fascist. We have now got a chance of getting a decent Racing Minister. Nathan Guy was an also ran and David Bennett fell at the first fence when he appointed Bill Birnie to a 3 year term to the NZRB.

When labour went out of Office 9 years ago debt had been reduced to stuff all and there was $20Billion in the Cullen Super Fund. National pushed our debt out to over 100 Billion. I do not blame Key for this as he had a financial meltdown to deal with. Ron Muldoon ran up huge debt during his reign of turmoil. Sorry but when it comes to running up debt National are winners by a country mile.

The business acumen of Adern, Davis, Robertson will catapult us into the global economic stratosphere! Thanks for nothing Patrick. Canada, Austria and now NZ--the power will be more and more with the bureaucrats ( and the puppet master Winston) as these "celebrity" prime ministers think they are organising a primary school picnic.

Just one thing we all need to consider as this new scenario plays out.....whilst you may believe WP is racing industry's saviour...just let's turn back to the racing legislation on Parliament's books....and how that is going to sway on the now in Government, Greens. All the money from the pokies that is slated to prop up prizemoney for the racing industry could be in a battle with the "headline" child poverty policy of the Green/Labour. I'd be taking bets this could be the first major culture clash of the new government...so let's see how WP deals with this...and don't think Racing is going to get any great favours from Labour/Greens...and don't believe that WP put racing at the top of the negotiating table...it's all about power and as racing is perceived as "elitist" I'm sure the battle for funds is only at first base. Don't hold your breathe....this triumvirate is a house of cards..too many diametrically opposed views...and racing will lose....but whilst I'm a realist, I would be overjoyed to be proven wrong!!!

If they give up the booze, cigarettes, punting, latte, eating out etc etc, "LIKE WE DID FOR F--CKING YEARS" in order to save for our first "deposit" which had to be 25% of the purchase price, and then buy out in the outer suburbs, then they would have a chance. But no, they want low deposit, easy finance, and live in the bloody CBD !! You are a dreamer Insider and need to stay off the G n T

What utter piffle Insider The boom in the Auckland property market was caused in the main by the abundance of cash available. The banks were falling over themselves to lend to people wanting to buy rentals and coupled with a healthy dose of Asian money the supply and demand equation sent the prices skyward. The government stopped the banks lending more than 40% on rental properties and Twyford and his cronies starting making noises about capital gains tax and stopping immigration and the Asians got nervous. Because the numbers of eager/desperate buyers diminished the demand did too. Either (1) they could not get the money or (2) they were worried about tax issues and accessibility to the country. It is not 'corrupt capitalism' it is supply and demand and that is the basic economic principle. Incidentally the same applies to the dairy industry where it is not the dropping or variable payout that is the problem it is the enormous debt these blokes have racked up courtesy of bank managers desperate to shore up their bonuses by lending as much as they possibly could(regardless of economic return). The banks have also noticeably tightened up their lending in the last year or so - whether that be an Aussie decree due to conditions over there or whether it be the LVR restrictions it is a fact)

puha even though I am happy with the election result I must concede that MMP has deficiencies that should be addressed. The electoral act should be amended so that the Governor General is required to invite the Party with the most seats to form a government. If that fails to eventuate he goes to the party with the second highest number of seats. This would eliminate the inordinate influence that third parties have in forming a new government.

Mum and Dad NZers control the Auckland property market, I would hate to think what Taxindas electorate thinks of her when she drops the arse out of their own home and the 1 or 2 rentals they have.. The only thing she is going to do is muff the economy and force up interest rates which will drive the housing market down with Mortgagee sales.

I was in Courtenay Place talking politics with a bloke when a gorgeous one went past. As she walked away from us she almost made her blue jeans talk. My new mate remarked that her left buttock was the Labour Party. Her right buttock was the National Party. They were both very similar. But then he said that the part in between them is Winston Peters. I am still trying to work out what part of the female anatomy best describes Winston Peters.

These are a selection of your quotes Brodie - you obviously love horses being bashed to bits if you have backed them. Punters will not invest on racing if the whip is banned as they will not be prepared to offload large amounts when they know that their horse may just be an also ran because of lack of vigour. Why do you get so much delight in seeing our reinsman getting fined and/or suspended for trying their best to win????? That's right let's come down hard on them and stop them from trying to make a living, just because of a stupid 10 hit rule. Go back to the previous rule. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the excessive whip rule that we had previously, far fairer! Of course it is, but the point is that Animal Rights had no problem with the way the whip was being used previously and so they shouldn't have. Newmarket, it is absolutely shocking that Ms. Ottley tried so,hard to win the race for the owner, trainer and punter! Watched a minor race from Canberra last night and the driver was into the horse with the whip continuously from about the 600m and didn’t stop and that is still,ok over there If the driver didn’t think that using the whip improves the horses performance then why on earth is the driver using the whip?????? Personally would be pissed if a driver of a horse that I had offloaded on just sat on it without any vigour.

  29. While the above make good points relating to participation, i think it is quite simple why there is such a small number running in the flying stakes. Its exactly the same reason they only have 8 in the non win mobile, half of which are all star runners. Trainers don't line their horses up if they know they have no chance. Well most don't anyway. It has everything to do with the superiority of the all stars. I'm just telling it as it is. Lets be honest, look at what happened to Mr lowe last year in that first race. Most had a chuckle when he decided to line up against the all stars in the first race last year, then most felt sorry for him when he was suspended simply for thinking he could finish within 200m of them if he drove in a way that would have been ok in any other race. Who did not think he was a mug for lining up in a race where he was never going to be competitive. Anyone? Who really thinks dunn is doing his horse any favours by running in the flying stakes. I guess he is one of the few thinking about the money you get for lining up. Any starter in the flying stakes gets $2000. Having one stable dominate the elite races is bad for the sport, granted its not their fault they are so superior. Does not worry me personally. I'm just telling it as I see it.
