Hopefully the rain stays away as a dead 6 track is on the cards tomorrow . Even Waikato stables are trekking south in search of good footing . On another positive note the club are jumpouts on Friday with over 60 horses entered and open to all . Even hear a group winner is trekking over for them. Proves yet again these smaller clubs that are run by volunteers are an asset to the industry. S.L

It is very interesting to see the somewhat (sic) partisan approach subscribers and the general public have when it comes to deciding where Winston should align his party. His own party appears to be split 30/30 (40% undecided) and non-party opinion merely follows the voting patterns supportive of the major parties. Add to the mix an idea that Winston is in the process for personal gain/revenge and the pot just gets stirred. Surely there are only two questions he needs to consider before making a judgement call (there is no moral high-ground under MMP). First and foremost, is either or both major parties competent fiscally to govern the country. If the answer is only one of them then Winston has a clear and certain obligation to place his party along side that major party. If both are judged competent then his obligation is then to broker a deal that sees the most progress being made towards fulfillment of NZ First policy. It was the policy that prompted the party vote and Winston has a duty to those who voted for him to pursue to his best ability the attainment of those policies. Admittedly the judgement calls are subjective but that is why he achieved the 7%. None of his voter supporters expected NZ First to be a majority party, most I assume, wanted Winston in just the roll the election has given him. All he now needs to do is fulfill his obligations first to NZ and then to NZ First. "One man's opinion". cheers

  5. This weeks twist is..... You can only lay at Randwick, and you can lay on any ONE of the following races, or on all THREE. R6 Premier Stakes R7 Epsom R8 Metropolitan All races are for triple points, so you either lay on ONE race only, or you lay on all THREE. If you lay on all three it's the triple points from each race ADDED together. If you make a fxxk up and pick any winner it counts as a lost life...I don't need to tell you what happens if you pick two that win..... Non posters are eliminated. Good luck to you all.

The media that I am reading and listening to are generally being quite critical of Winston being coy while waiting for the special votes to be counted (why the hell the count takes so long is another argument) but they don't seem to understand the real importance or significance of the specials this time around. Winston has been presented with a post election head to head negotiation, and he needs to be clear in his calculation of the leverage each party has, to allow him to drive the best deal he can for his party. To do that efficiently he rightfully needs to know the final result because it will be significant whatever way it goes. As the vote stands National must be in the box seat and therefore he would currently be somewhat limited in what he can get out of them. Why? Because it must be obvious that he would be a fool to form a 3 party coalition on the left with just a 1 seat majority, as that allows one maverick MP from any of the "inexperienced" parties to hold up and blow up the whole process simply because they might be having a "bad hair day". If he goes left too early, you can count on that coalition having the full and undeniable political might of the National party pouring heat and shade on them for 3 years and they could not falter in just one seat or that show would be over. Only a miracle would let them survive a 3 year term, and therefore his current negotiating position with National is not particularly strong. However, if the Labour/Greens coalition picks up 2 more seats from the specials (I don't think one more would be enough) , there would then be a margin of comfort/security to allow him to consider the left a realistic option. If that margin of comfort occurs after specials are counted, his bargaining position would then be at it's highest as both English and Ardern should then be courting him aggressively as both would have a realistic and equal chance of forming the next government. At present he really has little choice but to go with National and won't get much for it in my opinion. Hence the reason he will be waiting on the specials outcome more anxiously than anyone - simple politics. We just have to wait til 7th October and go from there. I don't understand why the media and most analysts don't "get" that or are they just trying to Winston bash because he often treats them with dismissal for the often inane and irrelevant questions they tend to ask? Whichever way it works out, the government will statistically represent the majority of voters statistically, and is that not MMP in action.

  8. Whatever happened to the old fashioned idea of democracy. Surely club members deserve a say on the way the industry is run. Just confirms NZTR no longer represents clubs but rather the participants.

I think you will find that their is a consensus out their that says ,if you are making good money you must be a NP stooge. The truth which is very hard for the anti Nat people to understand is that he is getting paid what he is worth. Am i jealous..Too right but then everybody has the opportunities to do better in life,it comes down to personal responsibility, something anti nats aren't in favour of.

  17. The same way Ellis defended Te Rapa after their debacle. This isn't an isolated case, It isn't just Hastings that are at fault, all everyone can do at the moment is complain about the tracks being to wet and needing an all-weather etc when the amateur hour that NZ Racing is continues to have repeated cases of over watering/irrigating tracks!.

  20. Most threads on this forum are motivated by a desire to moan about something (I too plead guilty), so I thought it'd make a pleasant change to instead say "very well done to all those involved in this". http://www.hrnz.co.nz/news-and-events/latest-news/5925-smith-raises-more-than-30k

  22. How the hell can NZRB justify putting $15mill/year into a FOB platform now catering only for NZ customers? What planet are these people living on? Especially when rumour has it the TAB App - budget $1mill, is now in over-run to the tune $12mill. How naive could Allen be to think a change in Australian law, with regards to off-shore gambling, would not have possible consequences for NZ? God help us all!
