  2. Using your example maybe they should have the same steps type system. 250 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath is the legal limit for anyone 20 or older, but you only get a $200 fine and 50 demerits if between 250 to 400mcg. Over 400mcg and you go to court where you are disqualified from driving and either fined or given some other sentence. If we apply the principle you are arguing, which I believe makes a lot of sense, there could be some more lenient penalty ,say $150 fine for between say 10 to 12 strikes, with suspension only being suitable in those cases if a previous history has existed. Anything 13 strikes or over could be say a $300 fine and/or a suspension. I think Eljay had a suggestion at one stage along similar lines. Personally I don't think the whip needs used much at all.For example If you look at the horse Still of the night. Mr keast got fined at rangiora, then he changed at addington to a much softer approach, limiting his whip action. At addington the horse responded just as well with a nice finish. Good drivers like that don't really need to hit them much ,they still run for them either way. Same as the Nathan Williamson case. Hes good enough as well to not need to overuse the whip

  3. My God is that second sentence not symptomatic of everything that is so very very very wrong in this country today? So you want the state to control even more than it does now do you?(and that is far too bloody much) Dear oh dear - maybe you could apply for Moncur's vacancy - he loved to make sure everything the clubs did was regulated by big brother. Not so keen to come down and scrub birdshit off the grandstand but he knew exactly how the joint should be run. Or maybe you could move to North Korea - they seem to run things that way.

  4. I might not be best the sharpest individual on the planet, but as I understand things: When ALL drivers carry a whip there is one horse who wins, another runs second, and another runs third. When NO drivers carry a whip there is still one horse who wins, another runs second, and another runs third. So other than the old "because that's the way we've always done it" reason, what difference does it make? I'm sure the horses neither know nor care who has backed them, or whether they're the favourite or a longshot. Whipless racing is coming. It's only a matter of time. Get used to the idea!

If Slam Drunks Economists are correct, then the last thing NZ needs is Jacinda in charge! Bill English has the experience and calm to guide NZ through any disasters.

  6. So I presume you will now be declaring "a ban on John Dunn driving all Westview horses" too? His drive on The Dorchester on the same program was remarkably similar to the Ray Reekie drive. After being beaten for early speed he proceeded to pull out and launch an attack which lasted until the horse was beaten and dropped out to run last. The only thing that saved him looking like a complete "amateur" was the fact that Ricky May summed up the situation and switched to Plan B in order to get the best result for his horse - something Alan Edge wasn't capable of doing, thereby destroyed his own horses chances along with those of Reekies horse.. John Dunn has always been an "I'm desperate to lead" driver. Which is something the top drivers are well aware of, adjust their race plans as need be, and use to their own advantage. In a professional environment, fellow drivers are seldom "hung out to dry". Ray Reekie has always been an "I'm desperate to lead" driver. Unfortunately the amateur drivers don't seem to factor this into their pre-race plans, and are incapable of adjusting those race plans "in the run". In an amateur environment, well ... it's usually "game on" from the word go! It's quite ironic that Reekie was driving a horse that he owns himself and trained by the Dunns. You'd imagine he discusses his pre-race plans with his trainers!

  7. "Revealed: China's network of influence in New Zealand" http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11924169 Back more than fifty years ago I lived next door to Rewi Alley's family. He was ostracized in NZ for being a supporter of China. That was hugely unfair. Nowadays its turned a full circle. Nothing wrong with China's innovation and export of products far cheaper than NZ could produce. However there are greedies who will sell NZ's natural resources for quick profit. There has got to be a balance. Judith Collins and her ilk do nothing for NZ.

This is beyond a joke! She Brings Joy loses one point in yesterday R65 race. A Group 2 winner now rated 63. First race for 8 months over short distance, and in the stipes report, "slow away and rider advises she wasnt happy in the ground." Doesnt Strictland take into account factors. Freshup after 8 months. wet track etc....... No he just copies a template. Any horse finishes past fifth - lose points.

  17. Its not a blatantly stupid rule. The only thing stupid on this topic is your views. As i have said previously, you don't get it now and probably never will. Your from the past where smashem and bashem were the accepted norm compounded by the thought that your $2 each way bet was enhanced by such behavior. Its clear that your not that bright and thus will sympathise with the drivers who break the whip rules. Thats your choice but every driver know that if they break the whip rule they will be in the room and being relieved of income. Simple really.

    New Brighton Cup

Have a look at all the stand start races at Methven on Sunday and tell me all the unruly and back markers were standing still when the tapes were released, if the connections of the beaten brigade started protesting the stewards would still be there. I think it would be impossible to have 14 horses standing still at the same time. If you are not bias against the All Stars then nearly every stand start race can bring a whine.

  20. Who on earth would hand to a horse that's sat parked and had an absolute gutbuster Brodie? It was never going to take him to the lane & not really in the best interests of the owner, trainer and punter to be carted back to last by a horse out on its feet...
