  1. It's not that taxes are to be charged, although I think that the public service industries have to be more efficient, its that uncertainty placed in the hands of a comrade socialist is a red flag. You guys looked at what Taxcinda has ben saying for the past 10 years? Some of it is scary

  5. The story you have posted about the mare making good is exactly as it is now. You pay tax on the difference of the "new value if you sell" if it's part of your taxable activity! At the moment the landlord in Auckland who has had rentals as part of his taxable activity doesn't pay tax when he sells them after a couple of years in a rapidly rising market. Both through a bit of luck have made a very quick killing! Why should a "breeder" pay tax on a capital gain (as it is now) and a landlord not? (As it is now)???!

  9. I'll just keep making the rules up each week so keep reading the thread and enjoy the shit show that it is, and hope you win because HQ is amazing. FYI Michael Fay reportedly once said to his staff on KZ1 at the very first America's Cup challenge "you need to understand the golden rule, I've got the gold so I make the fucking rules". Same applies here......and the rules change every week....... Just think of it as a marriage to some mad hormonal woman ( is there any other type ?), it's in that style, you never know what to expect on any given day and that's half the fun.

  14. Dead right Tom - would be great for my business, and bad for most of my clients - share your view I don't want it. For those speculating whether it wouldn't apply to hobbies and would only catch "taxable activities" (that's a GST term Insider - perhaps business would be a better one in this context) - well how would you know when Labour are campaigning on the basis they will think about CGT and other tax changes after the election. So no detail. No parameters other than family home. I would bet it would apply to the broodmare/racehorse etc no matter what....
    1 point
  15. It is pretty clear it(capital gains) will be on shares all right. And the holiday home and the hobby broodmare for that matter. Other than the family home it will be on everything including the business. I am one myself but I bet the Accountants are rubbing their hands together(I am not because the idea gives me the s#*ts). The tills will be ringing shortly should Taxinda have the bosses job come Sept 24. I really think professionals love complicated laws being put in place (like the Resource Management Act for instance) - great way to generate fees. And further in situations like legal scraps it is in their interests to have the client continue to argue so the fees continue to mount. Seen it a million times especially in Marriage or relationship breakdown situations. Mind you we are producing so many lawyers through the Varsities - many of whom are battling to find employment - we will need something to occupy their time

  16. Makes you wonder why they would not have an 'industry' meeting on the East Coast of the North Island at this time. If Hastings is a guide clearly the tracks there are in pretty good nick. Why they schedule them in the bog on the west coast at this time of year ?????? This is not the first time this series of meetings has been badly weather affected.

  18. Racing: New shock law set to cost TAB millions A shock law change means Kiwis travelling to Australia will find themselves struggling to have a bet on their TAB account or watch New Zealand racing. And in a move that could cost the New Zealand TAB millions of dollars, all Australian-based punters are now banned from betting with our TAB. The restrictions came into force on Wednesday as the recently-passed Australian Interactive Gambling Amendment Act became law in Australia. The law was effectively passed so undesirable betting agencies and exchanges operating outside of Australia - particularly the underground Asian-based sites - could no longer offer betting on sport and racing to Australia-based clients. But the New Zealand TAB, who has close ties to Australia's Tabcorp through its co-mingling and broadcasting agreements, have been caught up in the law. The new law means any betting agency not holding a licence under the law of an Australian territory, and the New Zealand Racing Board does not hold one, faces millions in fines if they allow Australians to bet with them and that agencies directors can face criminal charges. So the New Zealand Racing Board has been forced to contact all its Australian clients and tell them their TAB accounts are closed. That alone will cost the NZRB millions in lost turnover but what is impossible to calculate is how much it will cost in turnover from New Zealand punters who are travelling or living part-time in Australia. As of yesterday, no computer with an Australian IP address will be able to access the New Zealand TAB site. This means any Kiwi punter heading to Australia intending to use a local computer or their mobile phone through a wifi connection will be blocked from using the TAB site, and therefore having a bet. The one loophole could be New Zealanders travelling to Australia but using their mobile data on a roaming plan, who may still be able to access the TAB site. NZRB now have to work out how to navigate the problem long-term as it looks certain, with their close Australian ties, they weren't intended to be among the restricted operators but legally they are. They could apply for an Australian operations licence, which is not cheap, or for dispensation from the block. But for now, as racing's golden spring approaches, the New Zealand TAB is off limits to those living in Australia or travelling there, which means they also can't watch New Zealand racing on many phones or computers.

  19. Didn't we bowl the first underarm Puha, they're just returning serve aren't they ? Although their legislation is aimed more at the Asian pirate betting agencies, that said those same Asian agencies will reduce our new legislation to something of an ineffective farce too.

  20. How is Comrade Taxcinda or Comrade English better for Racing than Winston, who now has a lot of good new candidates are with NZ FIRST?
    1 point
  21. If I read the opening post correctly isnt it the an Australian amendment to their gambling act which is stopping people betting through the NZ TAB nothing to do with NZ not wanting or allowing people to bet with them. Australia have obviously put a block on people who try to connect with betting sites outside Aus. I am sure NZ would want punters anywhere to bet with them . I am one of those who from today cannot reach the NZTab website. Not that I do much betting through them preferring to use the local TAB which is commingled with NZ so the tote divs are the same. What I will miss is their race form which is far superior to anything in Aus and being able to look at Fixed Odds early to see where the smoke is. Fixed odds over here are lucky to be up an hour before the meeting and by then the opening FOs of NZ will be very different. It is an Australian initiative designed to stop leakage overseas NZ probably being only a small fish in this. It will be the thin end of the wedge before the Ausie corporate bookies are squeezed out bringing Aus more into line with the successful racing jurisdictions ie, Hong K, Japan and Singpore. There is already talk this will be happening and this today is the first step.

  35. Sorry, can't agree on this one. There's no 'Party' there's only Winston. Racing Policy? What is a policy? A policy is nothing more than a theory, a hope, an idea which the proponent would LIKE to see happen IF they became part of the Government. If Winz is part of Government he'll be a little fish in a big pool so no guarantees there especially if Labour gets in. Remember he lost his Tauranga seat two elections ago. What's he done for racing? He confirmed pokie money into racing was legit but then Internal Affairs put the frighteners on the trusts so racing gets bugger all. On his resignation the press called Peter Dunne the ultimate party-hopper and fence-sitter. That's exactly what Winston is only Dunne did it better aligning himself with Government for the past dozen years where Winston has wallowed in opposition. As someone else said, a vote for Winston will be a vote against National and if Labour gets in racing will be well down the food chain. Just MHO.

  36. Remind yourself and read Melanie Reid's Newsroom article about the illegal goings on in the Barclay affair by Glenda Hughes . No Integrity in the National Party.NZ First have always done better than our fake infantile media tell us.Look at the way they are trying to take control of the Industry from us for loonies like Nathan Guy John Allen [telling us we don't have a say in who is on the member's counsel] now about to stack the board with sports people not racing.I think we owe our votes to Winston to try and change things.

  38. She is actually asking us to vote for the 5 or so tax advisors that are going to re-shape NZ in the short to medium term. That she can't tell us who they are, and what those taxes might be is a recipe for disaster. Not a difficult notion to ponder. Almost similar to us not knowing how much sport betting is going to take from the racing industry under the new Act.

  41. We are spending millions on a FOB platform to compete with who? And if the turnover drops below projections how does it all get funded? There seems to be a 6 month sunset clause on the legislation so I am not sure if the horse & hounds gambling is an unintended consequence of the bid to stop casino and poker on line gambling. Does the NZ TAB not have a licence to operate in Aussie with TABCorp

    joke thread

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She reduced altitude and spotted a man below. She descended a bit more and shouted: "'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am". The man below replied "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude". "You must be a technician." said the balloonist. "I am" replied the man "how did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you have told me is probably technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is, I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip with your talk." The man below responded, "You must be in management". "I am" replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the man "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fucking fault!

  45. Because Grant Robertson is really running the show but the Labour Party knows they can't sell a fat middle aged homosexual to the electorate, so they've tucked him away behind Taxcinda and they never mention him. Kelvin Davis is just a vote catcher, a token, but rather thick, Maori boy from the north so they never mention him. Let no one be fooled, this is a Labour party driven by a reformist social agenda so if you're a white, heterosexual asset owner or employer you may as well bend over and prepare to get it right up the chutney. I'm surprised the media hasn't had a closer look at Taxcinda's partner yet, Clark Gayford has a bit of history around town, up Ponsonby way, and he seems to want to elevate himself publicly so he's fair game IMO.
