Pitty is an expert in the field and if he ever retires he'd make a great handicapper because he understands how to rate a horse to give its career longevity, especially old geldings. Given that every time a horse runs it earn the industry about $14,000 in revenue it's critical we keep them racing as long as reasonably possible, yet the fxxxing idiots at NZTR have been busy driving aged geldings out of the game for the last six years, and they're costing the industry millions as a result.

  5. Well done today Steve P ...you were a class act. On that sort of form you could go all the way ...good luck for the remainder of the Comp. Thanks very much for the Comp, TC, very enjoyable. Thank you for your time and effort.

  6. The DIA agree with you Phantom. The critical line in the legislation is this: The applicable law in respect of recovery of the debt is New Zealand law. I don't think New Zealand Law has any jurisdiction in relation to overseas bookmakers with respect to their operations outside NZ. Aside from that, even with full bookmaker compliance, the estimated gains are probably ten times or more the best peer reviewed estimates. It's all smoke and mirrors, evidently to justify spending money in advance that they don't have and are unlikely to ever receive.

  7. The rating system is a shambles. Judging the end of season rating system, there seems to be many indescrepencies, especially the open class and age goup catagories. The review of nearly 4800 horses performances rated over 46, indicate a worrying sign of inconsistencies by the NZTR handicappers. Firstly, the open class (100+) has only 16 horses in the classification. Very worrying. The NZTR handicappers seem to drop points too quickly. Especially from horses that run un-suitable distances, shows that they dont take this into consideration. eg. Miss Three Stars lost 2 points running midfield in the NZ Cup (3200m) when second topweight. Another annoyance is the handicappers not re-rating horses straight after races, especially Group races. Three-year-old's Gingernuts and Jon Snow seem far too highly rated at 105 and 104 and NZ and ATC Oaks winner Bonneval is the next three year old at 100. These three were rated after returning from Australia, so we dont know how the NZTR handicappers rated their domestic Group wins individually. Saracino is another example of this. In his last start in NZ, Saracino won the Group Two Wellington Guineas back in March, but the NZTR handicappers haven't rated his Guineas win; and remains on 92. He raced once in Randwick after his Trentham win. While there is no disagreement that Bonneval was last season's top three-year-old filly, being rated 100 does seem abit high in comparison to other fillies of her year. Her stablemate Nicolleta, rated as low as 73 - 13.5kgs inferior. Nicolleta beat Bonneval (3rd) in a Group 3 at Hastings, then Bonneval got the better at their next start by a head. Bonneval then beat Nicolleta by 2.5 lengths in the NZ Oaks (then won the ATC Oaks), but does this equate to a 13.5kg? Again, we dont know how many points Bonneval got from winning the NZ Oaks, she was re-rated after she returned from Australia. 2000 Guineas winner Ugo Foscolo is another that wasn't re-rated after his feature win at Riccarton. There are far too many other indescrepencies to mention.

  12. The Young Fella filled in for the Maestro on Ricc cart tons first day. Out standing calls today by Matt. Accurate. Articulate . Correct pronunciations. He had a huge knowledge of the horses form. Matt showed a rare talent by spotting R6 ? Irish Excuse travelling well.Scapolo's race. And in R8 Matt some how picked out The Great Nashville from four back rails weaving down the outside. I lost sight of Nashville's green colours when the camera angle changed.(Wasn't that a Terrific ride by the non claiming well bred Apprentice K Cowen.?) We appear to have the Race Calling succession systems in place. But Do we ? I am Ignoring the fact that we lost Sir Tony Lee for so long and George Simon to Singapore. At the rate Matt Cross's going Macau will grab him like they did with Bruce The Jaguar Owner and Singapore has grabbed with Tom " I Love My Mum Colleen and Dad equally". What a wonderful day for Matt Cross !! Get him into High schools promoting Racing as a career with many and varied opportunities.

Nashville's race was a good example of what this thread is about. Halfway through the race I turned to my husband and said; "gee they are going a good gallop given the track" and so it turned out with the backmarkers being able to make ground, Nashville the best of all. Interestingly the larger the field the more likely it is that there will be a bit of pace on. The worst track for sit and sprint seems to be Ellerslie if George Simon is to be believed, as not a single race goes by with out him saying that "they have taken the speed out of the race". P.S. It was a super and authoritative win by Nashville with his modern day weight carrying record in the time honoured race.

Nice ride on Nashville, good to see a horse ridden cold and doing his best work at the right end of the race, not in front from the turn, timing is everything.

  21. Mistered is 100% correct. Our NZ stipes would have never considered this next local step and and looked at the betting. Some times I wonder whether or not the Auckland stipes know if we're racing left handed or right.

  24. Suspensions and disqualifications are the way to go in my opinion. By deliberately misleading punters as he did showed a degree of contempt for that group and would only reinforce in punters minds that the industry is corrupt. When you read this story you can't help but wonder what else they get up too if money is their sole focus.

  25. I instinctively agree with this perspective, as I suspect most people do, but I wonder if public shaming, lengthy suspensions etc are the best way to rectify the problem. After all, as far as punters are concerned, this sort of thing is pretty much a zero-sum game --- while those who were aware of, and took notice of, Bond's comments lost out, this was offset by the gains to those who blissfully ignored them. The problem here is that punters aren't aware of information that trainers and other insiders have. So instead of applying big sticks after the stitch-up has happened, why not just solve the problem ex ante by providing punters with the information? Require, for example, that all stable bets be placed, say, 4 hours before each race and that this information be displayed online alongside the betting odds. Then punters can make up their own minds about who and what to believe. And yes, I know that cunning minds would try to come up with ways to circumvent the rule, for example by having somebody from outside the stable place bets. But that's already a problem, and is rather risky into the bargain. My suggestion would at least reduce the number of offenses stipes have to worry about. And uncertainties that punters have to worry about.

May have been off the mark Bloke--I think Tommy is in Real Estate, not cars so my apologies. Anyway Graham Beirne in the harness code would not appreciate Scooby's stereotyping of car dealers.
