Fartoomuch and 4 others reacted to Turny for a topic
John has been very instrumental and key to CWJ's return and success - from zero to something quite outstanding - enjoy it Midge - a magnificent ride for those who turn their starting point around - Champion it, NZ racing has fuck all else to offer - CWJ is an amazing success story - sadly the negative pricks remain negative - but that is NZ racing as some choose to accept it - as long as they enjoy negativity and failure so be it - some of us like success and achievement - well done Chris5 points -

I seem to recall you calling me out about initiating posts which i have since done on a regular basis where content was available. Brodie had issues and lots of them with other contributors and eventually spat the dummy and left the site- his choice- Kotare still posts2 points -

Trump written off
aquaman and one other reacted to what a post for a topic
I assume you are aware that this bloke works for an organization with a known anti trump bias. How about in future regurgitating some stories written by someone without a known bias, albeit I know they may be hard to find. The bloke you quote works for the ABC network. Here's a quote from an article in melbournes leading newspaper relating to the ABC networks bias after trump won the election. "The ABC is meant by law to be political impartial. But now even its managing director Michelle Guthrie has joined her staff in crusading against Trump. After Trumps shock election win Guthrie labeled it "a bruising experience for women everywhere". Ever since then that network has been pushing the same old anti trump line. The nz media has the same bias as well. A couple of months back I was listening on radio to Tom Scott questioning trumps sanity and stating he would not last long as he was sure trumps health was in serious decline, then switched channels to hear kim hill refer to trump supporters as morons and then carry on with her condescending remarks for some time. What trumps victory has illustrated is the self grandeur with which many in the media view themselves, and the contempt they have of anyone with different views.2 points -

You forgot the no passing lane and the finest climate for evening entertainment close to the city centre. Whether they are going good as an industry is questionable. On another note, RWWA and NZRB both totaled profits and subsequent distributions to the racing industry of about the same value to EOFY 2016. Despite this somehow their thoroughbreds race for at least twice as much at the Saturday meeting as a minimum and they race for $18k as a minimum base excluding conditioned events on a Friday night at the magnificent GP. Not sure how this works or why the massive discrepancy..... Maybe due to the one feature track per code with the smaller country tracks running at lesser stakes supporting and feeding the city meets rather than the even spread across the board like here in NZ. As much as it hurts to say it that is one tick for centralization.2 points -

Come on back Brodie this site has got rather boring without you. While we all know that you have restrictions on your betting by the agencies you also contributed a lot of harness information which created a lot of interest and discussion. I know there are some out there whom wont agree with you ever but they will get over it and give you some more crap. Just wait and see how quickly they attack this thread. I will certainly welcome you back.1 point -

Interesting thought. Those in the galloping code would be shocked to suggest deliberately curating tracks to create a track bias. Rather than alter the footing would increasing cambers help the situation at all?1 point -

BREEDING
Value Bell reacted to Swede for a topic
Somebeachsomewhere is HUGE in the US. Most people here don't know he's the champion sire there, displacing none other than Bettor's Delight last year and looking likely to beat him again this year. It's fair to say the jury's still out here. It's still early days but worth noting Mark Purdon was not among the SBSW buyers at the sales . . . so it may not happen next season! A couple of SBSW's sons are already here (well, the semen is). Net Ten EOM is worth a look. His first crop of two-year-olds are showing up in Indiana and there was a rush of late bookings for him there in the last breeding season. Numbers are against him here, but the signs are good . One of the Arden Lodge draft broke in really well and is off to Barry Purdon and Murray Swain is on the record as saying his Net Ten EOM yearling is better than his Art Majors and Bettor's Delights. He's impeccably-bred. Out of a Hall of Fame Artsplace mare and very closely related to Well Said and So Surreal, another young SBSW now at stud in the US.1 point -

There's a trend for clubs to sell off prime positions and use the funds to prop up the game in second class locations. But any on course "atmosphere" has disappeared as quickly as the track sizes have increased, to the point now where only the died-in-the-wool enthusiasts turn up on course any more. Trotting has virtually become a "made for television" product these days, and the people at the top seem to think big tracks and fast mile times are the answer to the games problems. Nothing culd be further from the truth. We're copying a US model that has been floundering for longer than we have. I wonder if it's dawned on any NZ administrators that the most successful, self sustaining track in Australasia also happens to have kept their great location, have the smallest track, the most competitive racing, and the crowd closest to the track?1 point -

David Bennett is only taking the advice of his advisors(Hughes - who did, as has been stated, shoulder tap Birnie - and Allen). Politicians are like everyone else on the public payroll - paranoid about making mistakes without a back up of 'well this was my advice'. The sort of things Councils and the Government do all the time - get a consultant in. When you are in business you are forced to assess your own risks(and pay the price for your mistakes - these wankers would never be caught making a decision for themselves. No unlike NZTR meddling in the (non racing) affairs of clubs - we have them sitting in Wellington filling their pants in case something comes back on them. What the f... has it to do with NZTR whether the financial statements or the constitution comply - if there is an issue it is on the Committee of the Club you halfwits. Anyway surely Hughes has to go or as a minimum be charged with bringing racing into disrepute for this attempting to pervert the course of justice saga in Clutha Southland?1 point -

Political patronage in this country knows no bounds. Proven business failures like Double B have no place on the New Zealand Racing Board. I have had a bit of time for David Bennett in the past but this appointment shows a lack of good judgement and doesn't bode well for the future of the Racing Industry.1 point -

GET RID OF THE STUPID 10 HIT RULE NOW!!!!
Fartoomuch reacted to hsvman for a topic
They rule as it stands is ok and simple enough to understand. Sure there will be first time offenders still getting caught but when you see drivers getting charged 3-4 times those drivers either aren't learning ,don't care or are just plain stupid . It's not like the rule says 3 hits before the 400 4 hits before the 300 and so on . It's maximum 10 from the 400m to the post . Maybe the suspension for for repeat offenders could be longer1 point -

'A young Wellington woman was so depressed that she decided to end her life by throwing herself into the sea, but just before she could throw herself from the wharf, a handsome young man stopped her. "You have so much to live for," said the man. "I'm a sailor, and we are off to California tomorrow. I can stow you away on my ship. I'll take care of you, bring you food every day, and keep you happy." With nothing to lose, combined with the fact that she had always wanted to go to California, the woman accepted. That night the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a small but comfortable compartment in the hold. From then on, every night he Would bring her three sandwiches, a bottle of red wine, and make love To her until dawn. Two weeks later she was discovered by the captain during a routine inspection. "What are you doing here?" asked the captain. "I have an arrangement with one of the sailors," she replied. "He brings me food and I get a free trip to California." "I see," the captain says. Her conscience got the best of her and she added, "Plus, he's screwing me." "He certainly is," replied the captain. "This is the Picton Ferry."1 point -
Great for NZ but there seem to be alot of sires in that top end now. Are there enough quality mares to give good books to them all ? I don't mean to be negative , but we keep hearing how tough it is out there for the studs so I am just wondering. Maybe Gerry Harvey will ship a number of selected mares over from Australia like he seems to have done with some of his other sires.1 point
