Thanks Guys. Two nice horses and both ridden very well. Viktoria has a real affinity with Pacorus, obviously mutual! A nice ride from Hairi saw the Edge get home late to get up! Thanks to my staff who do a fantastic job and to my loyal owners, another great day and the team is ticking over nicely!12 points -

I watch quite a lot of racing. I've spent a lot of time in the States, Japan and the UK. I've been to the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont, Japan dirt Derby and very other type of second rate all weather track racing in the UK. All weather tracks are NOT the answer. Sure those top US races are sensational to be at. Saratoga in the summer is the place to be BUT average cannon fodder races for the masses is boring boring boring. We need to think laterally and stand out from the crowd. Jumps racing in NZ in the winter is the way to go. We give the flat boys a holiday during the cold wet months while we structure an incredible race series based on championships for horses that don't get warm before they hit 3200m+. That means we have a brand new market for the slow ones that really want further but have conformation and courage. We then realise the value of these horse while making events for races with more than 20 runners in them that within a couple of years become the biggest betting events this side of the globe. Did you know that 6 of the top ten betting events in the UK are jumps races...or than in Japan the 5th top betting event is a jumps race? And for good measure, the NZ industry sets up a satellite stable and training facility in Australia so that the flat bits can get access to that market in a subsidised process so that we earn Aussie $ with NZ people and horses. Lets call it Team NZ Racing and do what the boys are doing up in Bermuda. Just a different angle.....9 points -
Two nice hurdle wins at Te Aroha today. The Shackler once again wins by a margin pretty much untouched in the first, and Who Can Tell unleashes a Raisafuasho-like finish to demolish them in the second. Love the jumpers! Pretty much the only reason to watch winter racing.3 points

You were asked what was wrong with the TAB then launch into a tirade about racecourse security. Now while I am not a particular fan of the NZRB I think you will find that this insistence on controlling everything that goes on on the course to be the domain of the NZTR halfwits who operate out of Petone. The logical thing for your to do when challenged for your badge was to hand him the lead rope. Exactly what was it about the TAB that annoyed you?3 points -
Stab me in the eye, the racing on them from Aus is as boring as batshit. I hope like fark we never make the mistake of wasting bucket loads of cash on a track like Canberra/Devonport. Spends the millions creating 2 or 3 much needed quality turf tracks rather than batshit racing.2 points

Big good on you from me to Chris Wood today. What a great double. How Wooden Edge won when it looked liked it would run last at the 600. Good on you Woodsy racking them up. My multi on the 2 paid for a great night out with the wifey tonight. Pacorus was just awesome.2 points -
Opawa Brad jumped ok from box 2 and when the #9 decided to give up the rail he said thankyouverymuch and cleared out to win by 5 lengths for a very well-deserved win in the $15,000 Group 2 race today at Manukau. I certainly do not intend to lessen the quality of Brad's win but it is noteworthy that his time was 0.14seconds slower than the Shotgun's. My point is simply to highlight that remarkable performance. PS I think I heard Peter Earley say that Brad's win made it #99 for the Faheys in Group wins. Now that is also sensational.2 points

It is so pleasing to read and enjoy such positive remarks.. The racing "game" is not an easy one but it can be very rewarding. Take the "downs" in your stride and make the most of the "ups". Best wishes and good luck.2 points -
Trackside coverage of Royal Ascot was appalling ...... Why didn't they have a dedicated channel instead? Horses in the yard covered continuously by the tote card..just amateur hour. Why is it that people in "power" here can't get anything right?2 points

south island talent
legs&lashes reacted to LOSER for a topic
the south island in particular has the knack of bringing endless depth of talented dogs through the grades.it does not matter if they are imported or bred in nz .it is amazing we seen these addington/south island "flying machines" come out and run 3020/30 week out week in.its very exciting to be a punter and have deep depth in a field.the tab turnovers must be easily the best in the country.and the racing is so exciting not being dominated by one trainer or kennel, there is Roberts,Adcock,Fahey & Robin Wales all with a great depth of dogs in their respective kennels. has the depth of 500m dogs at the current time ever been stronger in the south island?in my humble opoinion is no we are seeing great depthof talent where given on a single night any dog can beat any dog.the south champs final will be a "cracker" where "LUCK WILL BE A FORTUNE" i for one cannot wait for next thursday nights final.good luck to every one. this race is a punters dream. thank you trainers for sourcing or breeding such brilliant dogs.the talent is endless.1 point -

Yes and $12k here...underrated by our market. Has been unlucky as 3 stars of his first crop here have a) Hardline (retired due to wind issues), Cylinder Beach loomed up to win Doomben Cup & broke his leg, c) Raghu has obviously not adjusted to Hong Kong.1 point

so lets dig the boot into nzgra gazza if you wanted to be a mechanic you would do an apprenticeship as i see it most people that want to get involved in the industry would start of as a kennel hand or would speak to a trainer for advice eg schofield clark and probably spend time with them but hey if you want nzgra to throw money at you good luck with that once again ill state that most trainers have an affiliation with in the the industry its not if some homeless person walks in off the street and wants to become a trainer1 point

Really? I make it 5 of the 9 races were won by the fav, I guess intelligent punters knew what they were doing. Well bugger me, horses failed or had an off day, or had a cold, or were beaten by better horses.... just because they're "notable wet track horses" doesn't mean they have to win. That sook Hesi, about wet tracks is usually done by average punters who look at wet track/distance stats & not much else. The realm of heavy is the most vast of any racing surface & is also one the best for finding great bets, 5/9 favs yesterday indicated that. Not a single winner above $10 at Riccarton indicates punters got it right there also.1 point

Winter Trans-Tasman Super Comp Results Thread
Chestnut reacted to von Smallhaussen for a topic
in the absence of our team Captain - who may be at church, I believe this is the first time we have seen this stat. Did you not realise John that we threw this game to give our good friends the Pretend Gers the best chance of winning this comp behind us . Things will change now that we are safely into the knockout stage and the cabbage will be transplanted into the glasshouse where the dogs cannot water the poor thing Thank you scorers for your effort yesterday - time to sharpen the scythes for next week and beyond1 point -

I used to be a harness trainer and driver last year ( still a driver though not a very successful one) I took out my trainers licence for the dogs earlier this year and I am absolutely having a ball, I've had more success in 3 months training dogs than I did in 2 years training and 5 years driving horses . I am so used to having horses that the dogs don't nearly cost me as much as I thought they would ! I'm 26 years old and I must say hrnz have done a good thing re the clothing and harnesses as it used to cost almost 400 for a licence for just the year they have also waived the licence fees for all people under 30 years old . The least grnz could do would be to waive the licence fees for the young ones just getting into the game , just a thought .1 point

And for the avoidance of doubt that is very clearly stated in NZTR's own registration of lease form: NZTR cannot determine nor control facets of a private lease agreement such as right of purchase, right of renewal, special conditions, etc. The lease form is notification of an agreement and our key points are the start date and finish date of the lease and the details of the Racing Manager, and all lessees involved. It is therefore recommended that the parties to the lease have their own agreement in place to cover all aspects associated with the lease and welfare of the horse.1 point
-
Indeed but it is a matter of breach of contract and nothing to do with the RIU or NZTR1 point
-
You are correct. It is a civil matter. If the owner is unable to negotiate a settlemnt then it goes to court.Over the years I have been involved in a few like this and also a situation where a mare under lease has been served by a stallion without the approval of the owner This has nothing to do with the RIU. They need to mind their own business.1 point

Good to see Mr Mojito back and running a good race. Now trained by K Manning had a run 3 back on the pegs on the fast pace and then got a dream passage at the 400 and went a couple of lengths clear at the turn but just caught when condition ran out. Hopefully can carry on and confirm the very high opinion that was held of him last year before it all went pear shape at the Perth IDs1 point
