  1. Ahh, Barrington , those were the days, when we had free range to express ourselves, and head office left us alone. We'd still be operating now if the TAB hadn't made it so untenable for us. In they end we were being told what to say and when to say it, would've joined the army if we wanted to do that. Sign of the times I'm afraid, it's what happens when Coporates get their paws in to something, think they can run it better.

  2. Rangiora TAB closed, no other outlet closer than Kaiapoi. Closed 2 weeks ago for good. The people running this lost TAB which was the Plough Hotel, sited the reason for closing was, they were sick of being shafted by the TAB, no money for them, unprofitable. Now an area that has a large population, has no TAB. The TAB are fuckwitts, and shouldn't be in charge of a dairy, let alone running a racing and sports platform.

  7. Golly gosh, it is unbelievable. A day in which we had to wait until the last race for our turn. Met a lovely couple from Hokitika who are in the Griffin Syndicate( Majestic Man and Dark Horse) at the lunch table, going to visit our horse before the race, and seeing the race unfold, and the excitement and disbelief of actually winning, was a joy to behold. Whatever the after race wash up is from other runners in the event, we won the race. Oh, it the reason to be involved in ownership, as sometimes the dream does come true. Thank you Racecafers for your support, and may your turn be not far away. Cheers. Robert.

  8. Well I had backed JL in his 2 previous runs at Addington, and thought he had gone very good. I got a few dollars worth of the first quaddie, had a place bet on Queen bee bardon, I knew Craig was going to drive her that way as she has real gate speed, it was a super drive Craig is a very underrated driver.. he has driven close to 600 winners now. I also backed for a win Wilmas mate, once again a great drive and a master trainer, and Gentleman sir for a place, didn't take the quinella a bit dumb really, so I was a bit flush by then so followed my money and backed JL as I said top driver, master trainer, and a very underrated horse. My only regret for the day was not backing Sparkling delight for a place, I had seen him a couple of days prior and he looked superb. I cannot be bothered putting 2000 for a win on a horse paying under 2 for a win now days my time for that has gone I prefer to just watch those races, the last serious punt I had was on a horse I trained a few months ago, he won and paid 16 only just got there and I nearly had a bloody coronary. I wish you all the best for the future with JL Regards Badger

No mention of Media Works board, or Bravo Board amongst others, or all the good horses she owns all or a part of. I'm pretty sure she actually owns and races more horses than the entire NZRB and NZTR boards combined if you ignore "Played and Missed" Jackson and his rapidly diminishing team. It's also of curious interest that Labour and Helen Clark gave her the NZOM and now National have made her a dame. I should also mention that it's of great delight that she is generally considered to have been responsible for getting that whinging left wing loser John Campbell off our screens, I don't if that's actually true but if it is that's worthy of a gong in itself.

My Rule Book is certainly not now up-to-date what with all the recent Amendments etc. However, I doubt that 76.7 (Rules of Racing February 2015) has changed much, if at all. (Certainly its numbering will have changed). It is curious how it mentions Heat or Semi-Final initially and then at the end refers to Semi-Final or Final. The effect of this is that the abandonment of a Final is not specifically stated. Consequently, there is no mention of the starters therein. What is pertinent, perhaps, is that "if ... a re-run is not possible then the Chief Executive, or his/her appointed nominee, shall, in his/her sole discretion, determine the Greyhound or Greyhounds, as the case may be, which shall be eligible to compete in the Semi-Final or Final." My assumption is that the Chief Executive has made the decision in this instance and allowed a reserve to contest the Final despite its not being a runner in the original Final race. If so, this surely requires a new additional rule.

  11. Back it on the TAB and lay it off on Betfair, then you can get most of that risk free if you really need $10. Much better to do this and smash the Aussie corporate sign up and extra bonus offers though, great way to build the betting account in quick time.

Think any of the four would be worthy winners but in my book either Chris or Alysha deserve it more in the sense that they having been travelling north n south the last few months without the backing of big stables and the cream of the horses . Danielle could be 20-30 ahead with the backing she has and the same hunger the other two have shown IMO .

    Inquiry?

Can you post the article you refer to as I had not heard of the meeting where the 90 trainers all complained about the system. I had thought many went there to support the new system. Like I said earlier, the all stars amongst others are complaining because it makes their better horses progress higher in the grades faster than they used too. They completely ignore the fact that they are competitive in the grades they are assessed at. They do so because it undermines what they are saying. They are just trying to get whats best for their owners, however the handicapping system thats best for the all stars is not whats best for the industry as a whole. By the way all this moaning from those with the best horses, earning the most money, winning the most races, who want more concessions and more than they currently get is actually a sign those who designed the current system have got it right.

LO this has always been the case with tall poppies. Initially we love to see them succeed then invariably they DO get preferential treatment. Not saying it's right or democratic at all but we know it happens in every sport.Forget what Geurin says on Box Seat, it's only his opinion like yours or mine. I just don't believe this case deserves 4 pages on cafe and furthermore, what do you propose should be done about it?

Before everybody gets too carried away, it might be a good idea to read what's actually written on the All-Stars website: "Natalie and Mark don't make excuses and wouldn't use any after this race but anybody else would be sure that the defeat of our two best three year olds was as much to do with lack of suitable races thanks to the new handicapping system which works against talented three year olds. "He had his chance" Natalie said of Ultimate Machete who went down late to Jack's Legend." So one statement about the handicapping system that would seem to be written by Dave Macarthy, and an acknowledgement from Rasmussen that UM was beaten on his merits. Hardly excessive whinging, imho.

Rare accomplishment for anybody to have achieved this honour- well desreved Julie Christie. Leo and Brian would have sat around their dinner table in Greymouth and at that stage never thought that their younger sister would have got to where she now is. Has an interest in racing.....calls a spade a spade (often) .....how good would she go as the Chair of the NZRB....'twould be a fine thing!.....just a thought.

Very soon we will see Donald Trumps travel ban come into effect. The Supreme Court will rule in favour of the administrations ban on Syria, Somalia, etc. The lower Courts are all wrong, and driven by politics, and the Supreme Court will correct this.

  28. They are living in the past, acting as if they are the ony game in town. Instead of making their products and odds ultra competitive they cry about leakage. Clubs are no better really. When crowds started to dwindle they just let it happen. Focus on turnover not what it used to be.

  30. Bush inn TAB is awesome . I used to work at three Tabs in chch (Wilson's,excelsior sports bar and chch workingmans club) and think there would be a few punters lost as some were old school and was beer and a punt would not have TAB account. I recall we would have 1 punter who would put on $15k bet every Saturday he would be lost now and TAB doesn't give a flying F***

  36. Interesting that they give me $5 every wednesday as they know I only bet on Saturdays, but they can't be bothered sending me a message saying they know I was betting on Saturday and apologising for their incompetence. It is the arrogance of the whole thing that is most revealing about their attitude.

Well Crusty youare a Catholic so what did you do about the many thousands of young men's lives destoyed at the hands of priests. Did you stand up in mass and challenge the Catholic Church? If you did,you could expect a visit initially from Priests then others fromthe church putting you in your place informing you that the Vatican has spoken when in fact they have covered up for these low lives. Simply you would have been thrown out of the church. I despise these gutless radical Islamic wankers but all religions are the same, they will make up any story to brainwash anyone silly enough to believe their phoney crap

Great speech by Theresa May, I only hope she has the mandate to carry it out. That bloody Muslim apologist Obama has a lot to answer for--would never say "Islamic terrorism" as he was a closet Muslim. The toxic Islamic doctrine has to be confronted but I feel it is already too late with all Western democracies "seeded" by these mongrels who are prepared to play the long game and wait for their chance. As she so rightly said, "you cannot confront the problem if you are not prepared to acknowledge it".

Yes, I am very aware that the pro Chris comments can sound a bit anti Danielle. I am sure either will be a worthy winner and well deserved. It is just great that we often seem to have this premiership race to keep us interested during this often dire period of racing.

    EPSOM DERBY,

The highlight was the post race interview with John Gosden, I've never heard a trainer talk so much sense, so eloquently, with such detailed understanding and interpretation of each of his horses efforts, and all with extraordinary clarity and insight. The trainer of the Vela horse was impressive too, but Gosden was special. It's worth watching the best English racing just to immerse yourself in their knowledge and passion. I wish the lobotomised muppets infesting the Trackside studios could listen to the Gosden interview, firstly so they could learn from it ( fat chance ) and secondly, so they might just realize how infantile and ignorant their understanding is of horses as animals, the idiosyncrasies of tracks, and the actual racing. No chance though, NZ racing has long been hijacked by people who know nothing useful about racing, and hence the accelerating slide into oblivion.

I agree with you Craig, I am also not sure of the rules but if the rule does allow for this situation it is in need of urgent alteration. Common sense tells you the original starters must be in the rerun exactly the same as if the race had been rerun on the first day.

Interesting to see that the Mayor of Chicago and 60 other large American cities will continue to implement the Paris agreement. I would have thought making the streets safer, fixing the education system, fixing the slums and generally looking after your voters would make more appeal to people.. The murder rate in some of these cities is atrocious but instead of fixing that they are going to deal with something else they can't fix.
