Winter Super Comp starting soon
Casper and 5 others reacted to Peter Jenkins for a topic
I'm going to cancel this comp. After the exchanges that have gone on in this forum in the past 24 hours and numerous private emails from people withdrawing, some of whom had earlier stated they will be in, I just can't be bothered with the BS. I'm sorry for those keen to participate. Thanks for offering. It's going to be a quiet winter. These things are mean't to be fun, this crap isn't.6 points -
There's been several comments on here about idiots, scumbags, .... (plural). Let's be very clear there is really only one idiot/scumbag at the heart of all of this nonsense. It started a few years back when I ran a knockout comp and he was beaten by Cabbage in the semi finals. Rather than congratulate Cabbage he came out with this vitriol about how she had copied Aiden Rodley's selections (or was it Stu Laing's?). Cabbage was so hurt by this she hasn't entered the comps since. Note, this was a competition that I ran with my own time and money and he didn't have to pay any entry fee. He was a member of the Hurricanes team at the time but we didn't really appreciate that sort of behaviour and he left our team. Since then he has clearly harboured a lot of ill will against the Hurricanes. This manifested itself when Hesi ran the Top Cat comp over the summer (assisted by TC). He had been eliminated from the competition but he questioned Hesi's clarification of the shootout rules, claiming that Hesi had changed the rules and thereby undermined the competition. Note, this was a competition Hesi was running with his own time and some of his own money and nobody paid any entry fee. Nobody else objected to this change - not even the people who had co-sponsored the comp. This crusade got quite nasty to the point where he was openly calling into question TC's integrity/ethics when all he was doing was giving up his time to help run a comp. and more recently he has rejoined Peter's comps - again he doesn't pay an entry fee but again he does all he can to undermine this comp - often questioning Peter's choice of races, making it quite clear that he doesn't care about Oz racing (so why enter a comp that has 5 Oz races every week?), and last week posting a set of picks where 95% of them were non runners (just to make some ridiculous point in response to what happened to him the week before). He entered the Winter Comp and several of us told Peter we didn't want to enter. We told Peter to go ahead without us - we didn't put any ultimatums to him about not entering unless we could pick our own team or unless certain individuals didn't play. Peter's comps are bigger than any individuals but it is my choice who I want to associate myself with. There are a bunch of us who love the comps - we put up our own time and money to run some of these. We don't need to take this type of abuse/behaviour and some of us have pushed back. This is not unreasonable.5 points

If you listen to anyone on Trackside guessing/tipping you're brain dead, and God help your wallet. What you want from them is information not tips, just tit bits, e.g., if a horse is sweating up badly, reluctant to load, being reshod, been in the barriers a long time, has a gear change, .....or conversely remarkably relaxed.... that's information, you can use that to your advantage so that's what you should demand. As for Trackside tipsters putting thought into their selections, you're kidding, they're oxymorons with legs, and they may as well be putting thought into what the colour of the number 8 smells like.4 points

I was having a beer after golf with a guy who was a guest. I asked him how his home club was going and he went on to explain all the work going on around his Club, new holes, new extensions to the clubhouse, new restaurant, new practice facilities etc etc. Very surprised I said " Fxxk me! Where's the money coming from for all this?". Without a pause he answered, " From our pokies". So asked him about the social impact of this ripping $ out of the local community from those who can least afford it and he just said, " Yeah, it is a problem". Need I say more? Pokies rip the shit out of the lower socio-economic communities and should be confined to Las Vegas, Alice Springs and other Deserted destinations - out of reach of such desperate communities.4 points

No he is clearly employed to call races as he sees them.. there is a distinct difference.2 points -
He is employed to relay what he sees. TV people should realize that the parade and prelim along with loading is part of the race so TAB odds should not obliterate the horses. TAB still don't get it. A punter may have two or three horses sorted out by form but will bet on the best pre race looker. Therefore Turnover = prerace observation.2 points

Watch this space for details of the Winter Super Comp starting soon. The only variation will be a live draft for team selection with Captains being able to give their franchise the team name they choose. Register your interest here. Please specify clearly if you wish to be a captain. I'm going to cancel this comp. After the exchanges that have gone on in this forum in the past 24 hours and numerous private emails from people withdrawing, some of whom had earlier stated they will be in, I just can't be bothered with the BS. Just doing the form for Taupo tomorrow and looked at form line comments for Artiste in R1 "4th outer, wdr 400, big late fin" WTF!! Absolute rubbish!! That's not what I saw. The horse settled last from a wide gate and at the 800m was a still a clear last, some 15/16 lengths from the winner and still last at the 600m before starting to improve around the outer and finishing powerfully to finish third.1 point

Racing up Queen St to Kyber Pass ? Clearly even suggesting such idiocy means you've had at least two bottles of gin today, but presumably you meant Karangahape Poad ( aka K Road ) and the only common factor is that's where you loiter when you want one up your Khyber Pass, hence your confusion. Do wear protection in that part of town me ol' fruit.1 point

Oh dear !!!. Fair enough PJ, enjoy your break and hopefully we might see you back in the Spring. You deserve better to be honest. Privately I was hoping to pick the "bear in waiting" in the draft and kick his head for touch. OOpps sorry.1 point -
Ok I am going to answer for Brodie here as that post will tick every known repetitive response from him. "Would not waste my time on a premier meeting. Pointless betting with Purdon dominating every race and the bloody bookies killing every dividend. restrictions, restrictions blah blah blah Muhahaha" But seriously I thought it was a good betting night too and made a few bucks as well.1 point

Depends what you after.I spent $120 for night collected $830 off 5 horse favourite multi.4 Purdon winners and Pirate Bay.Got 3 at a lot more than they paid on tote and other 2 about same. Took quite a few multis that got very close that were worth thousands that involved Tornado Valley and American Tart and also a few i took for a place with Purdons winners. So i was a nose away from collecting $4200 for my $120 spend on 8 multis.Must say though not very often i have night like that as usually back wrong Purdon runner. And Heaven Rocks gave me goosebumps at the start.I had him in all my bets so could have easily got nothing.1 point

Good to see Mango not too ill to travel to Addington. After such a very lengthy layoff (forced) Maxim is really performing well above what anyone thought he would be capable of(Mango excepted!) Not too many good news (warm fuzzy) stories these days but we must give big ups to the horse and those who have believed in him and managed his road back to where he can take on and compete against today's super stars.1 point -

Oh God no ! Please someone tell me it isn't so. What a foul posting from this individual that a moment ago I had the misfortune to see on the Results Thread. Clear evidence of the gutter calibre of the individual. I'm sure there'll be a lot of people now reconsidering whether they want to take part in the Winter comp, because this individual is there. Many of us have standards as to whom we are prepared to associate with. This individual falls well short of those standards. Go for a hike Teddy. A long one. 3 years would be nice. In the jungles of Nicaragua. People there have less patience than we do.1 point -

Hard Work
THE TORCH reacted to Fartoomuch for a topic
A trend that is becoming more and more obvious in the South island is the problem you have placing a reasonable horse. In effect they win them in a row due to the weakness of the opposition as much as they are good in themselves. The Anderton's currently have a few good horses who fit the description. Coulee, Tommy Tucker. Add to this list the Patrick thing that won the Riverton Cup. The handicapper will no doubt give it another 6 points as he did after it won its last win , its first time in open company. That puts the horse in the mid 90's and near enough to top weight in many events down there from here on in, Hows that good for the game or should they just sell them to Ozzie if its not too late. Another example was the horse that won Dunedin gold Cup- Went into race as 2 win horse on a 68 rating, wins and got 18 points before earning more for winning Invercargill Cup.1 point -

Thanks Howie. Always enjoy playing the Blues and you've had the wood on us the last few times, but today it was our turn for the breaks to go our way. Well done Canes - nice way to cap a good season. The statisticians are going back through the record books to see if any team has won 11 straight to take out the title. Mike & VS - outstanding comebacks today. VS - three from three in the play-offs - that's clutch!! Hesi & TC nice wins once again. I've enjoyed playing with you guys and look forward to no doubt locking horns with a few of you in the Winter Comp - suspect we won't be able to draft this same team. Peter - thanks - outstanding as always!!1 point

Well Done Stephen and Danielle
Black Kirrama reacted to rdytdy for a topic
Danielle's win on Prince Hareem for Stephen Marsh in the first race at Hastings today gave the Marsh/Johnson combination their 100th win together. They then combined to make it 101 in the last with the impressive Andado bolting in and making it three on the trot. They now have 101 wins and 130 placings from 561 races with plenty more to come. Danielle's treble today gives her a 17 win lead in the jockey's premiership.1 point -
