Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but try not to criticise these young fellows in what is not an easy gig. They all adapt their own styles, have their mentors that they look up to, and like to get the job done to a high standard. There is always room for improvement for most of them, and taking pot shots at them will not do them or their confidence any favours, especially from anonymous sources. Talk to John Russell, Greg Miles, Reon Murtha and ask them how long it took them to get to the standard they were famous for, it's not a 2 year job, I promise you. For all you knockers out there, just my opinion!3 points -

Forget contacting Noel - go to the Board Chair - Liz Lowndes. Noel doesn't reply to emails or phonecalls any more than the the Levin kennel manager does. I'd be surprised if the GAP board has any clue what goes on there. elizabeth.lowndes@xtra.co.nz2 points -
What about dairy companies then?. How many Aucklanders do you think realise that nearly a mill bobby calves go to the slaughter house every year so they can have a latte? Not quite as bad as what is on here of course, but there is some serious lack of knowledge on how a cow produces milk in a rural country like NZ.2 points

I find this information unbelievable, in fact I am in shock that this goes on and the world doesn't seem to care! Obviously most people are like myself, oblivious to the real world out there, when it comes to pharmaceutical companies.2 points

We have these disgraceful products here in clean, green NZ. Marketed by Pfizor under the brand name Premarin, they are made from pregnant mares urine(PMU). If you are going through menopause/or your partner is you may well be prescribed them - break one open and smell if you don't believe. Even the name Premarin is made up from pregnant mares urine. The abhorrent practice of keeping these mares tied up in small stalls, constantly pregnant and discarding(most cases) the foals should surely be banned. It's difficult to get accurate figures but conservatively over half a million mares are impregnated each year. In Canada where most is produced it was their largest drug export(was at one point-may still be) There are far better/kinder products on the market when choosing to go onto hormone replacement therapy (HRT) - please ask for an alternative.2 points

Heard problems with the GAP programme. Trainers still waiting for their dogs to go on list months later, other trainers ringing 1 day, in the program in a short amount of time. There's 81 on the list 9/9/2016 gets updated each month lot of dogs been waiting months to be rehomed not on it. .Greyhounds are retired non chasers, race injuries, old age etc. If and when a dog is accepted they must be injury free which is fair but when you tell the programme no free running why do they free run that dog then ring up days later come and pick your dog up it is injured collar and lead walk they love, smaller spaces not a paddock. We are charged $60 per dog if council registered, micro chipped up to date vet certificate more if not. Christchurch greyhound attacks small white dog both were on leads was it a GAP passed dog. We rely on the public to accept our retirees attacks like these don't help. Over 200k is spent each year, plus cost of Levin base. How many dogs fail the programme we only here about ones that have passed. Cat friendly after a few weeks its ongoing training. I have 2 inside dogs that would fail GAP, native birds come before feral cats dumping ground out my way dogs included. More thought is needed by NZGRA this is another problem trainers face.1 point -

Definitely also some merit into the argument that the best race mares (that are top class or often have long tough racing careers) quite often end up very successful Grand-dams more so than successful Dam's. Maybe some of the aspects you have touched on Midget above have something to do with this1 point

Sack the lot Problem after problem looks like us greyhound people have no say. They get rid of good staff make stupid changes [ odd change acceptable drug 1 gets a yes except for the way it was introduced] stripes report what a time waster the list goes on and on . Who's making these needs to go and all the yes people what a great way to improve the industry NOT. What about the alcohol and drug rule do we need medical proof as certain drugs effect people differently. Must be health and safety that's come up with this they need to look at our tracks on wet days greyhounds health and safety do we get a say on this1 point -
My track record at picking the cup winner is hardly something to boast about, so I'm probably just putting the mockers on my choices. But here goes anyway: Have Faith In Me (best horse) to beat Franco Nelson (sentimental favourite---plus the bugger owes me a fortune after getting nosed out 2 years ago!) As an aside, I'll just say what a pleasant change it is to see a thread that isn't a moan about the TAB...1 point

I know that feeling so well. Betting solely to win every race on weekend and getting beaten on post race after race, with some paying around $ 15 mark. In sheer desperation backed a horse at $ 35 and $ 7 E / W this time and the mongrel of course runs a fast finishing 4th. No one said it was meant to be easy but sometimes you wonder if there is a higher power pointing the finger.1 point

One would hope that all those involved at the Once Were,s,took a hard look at that Grand Final and wondered "can we play like that". That answers it self as well. At least being a Manly diehard ,I know they will come right eventually, and make the playoffs and maybe win another GF or two.1 point -

Whoa up Jojan, it was posted with humourous intent, hence the title and you will note with no critcising comments made thereof. Geez, lighten up. PS. Listen to heat 1 before even one word was uttered. My opinion if you want it, is that if you go back and listen to the trials he called here at the end of August the sound was barely audible. I would suggest that the sound man adjusted too far the other way for the September trials thereby picking up every sound and amplifying it.1 point

Do you still believe the Northern hemisphere racehorse is the exact same as the Southern equivalent ?? i don't, the training and racing cultures are so vastly different that the species is divergent and it no longer follows that a successful NH sire line will work down here, and vice a versa. They don't even look the same any more, slightly different actions, more grinding going on up there, less brilliance. Look at Darley, they appear to be running different operations with a different focus across the two hemispheres, and as an aside I bet that Sheik Mohammed thanks his lucky stars every day that he shifted into Australia not so long ago.1 point

Wow ....big match-up next Saturday ....2nd -placed FERDIES v 3rd-placed MIGHTY BLUES ! Epic ! Maurice v Gordy will be a great match-up ...two very well-performed contenders to match motors to see who willl be the peacock, and who'll be the feather duster. Heather v Geoff will also be a contest for the ages. Fortunately no Bryan v Brian match-up ....that would be just too confusing for my simple brain to contemplate ! Will we Mighty Blues back-track on the threat to play a Joker this coming Saturday ...now we know it's against the 2nd-placed Ferdies ? ...or will we hold fire until the final two matches of round-robin. Sure to be a major topic of conversation at our war council meeting this week. Watch this space !1 point -

Outstanding individual performances again from our 'Big 3' Geoff, Pete & Gordy, all 3 winning again to ensure we Mighty Blues narrowly staved off the joker-playing challenge of the valiant Chiefs outfit. Brian desperately unlucky not to win his match ... $300+ is usually enough to win an individual matchup. As for me, completely overwhelmed by Sylvia in what has been continuation of a miserable individual performance this Spring campaign, but fortunately it is a team game not an individual game and I've managed to surround myself with winners. Can't recall who we are matched up against next week though I know PJ has published it last week, but whichever team we're up against it is most likely that we will be bringing the first of our two Jokers into play. So be afraid some team out there ...be very afraid. . The Mighty Blues are a-comin for ya !.1 point -
