Tom Wood's Kranji race call tonight.
Grant R and 3 others reacted to Black Kirrama for a topic
Tom Wood's huge future was assured as a NZ race caller tonight He was invited to call at Kranji. He has endorsed our faith and beliefs tonight with his calling a resticted Maiden event. Terrific call,by Tom, with the Laurie Laxon trained Dicaprio and Oscar racing winning the race !! Tom follows in the foot steps of Tony Lee, George Simon,Micheal Knight and Bruce Sherwin in calling Asian races early in their careers. Rev4 points -

Just wondering if anyone knows why Tim isn't on Have Faith In Me tonight?.Seems like he's done all the work on him on raceday, and now that he's with the 'big boys' he's not on him.Am sure he'll drive Smolda well, and hes a good chance in the race, but i would of put money on the fact that Tim would of carried on driving HFIM....hopefully he'll get back on him at some stage.2 points

Well one poster who was removed from here gave him hell last week on another site.... I hope he gets the gig there as he is under utilized here in NZ and is one of the best commentators in the country.... the guy is only 26.... how good will he be in a few years...great call for first time there... but some just know everything...and will pull him to bits on a day he makes some imaginary mistake to the grandstand experts....yeah right!!!! Good on you Tom stick it up them.2 points -

Natalie drove the horse in his last Australian campaign culminating in the Miracle Mile win. Have Faith In Me has a big future on both sides of the Tasman and is now in Town Hall company so I think it is wise to have Natalie stay on the horse. Tim Williams is a talented driver but he does not have the big race experience or driving talent that Rasmussen possesses. Smolda is a great horse and anyone would be pleased to drive him so William will not be complaining I'm sure.2 points -
Yes I too was amazed and disappointed with Allstars. Yes it maybe the owners decision but as you say Wanna - a real kick in the guts. Guess if Smolda wins tonight he will get dragged again. I thought Blair Orange made the wrong choice in leaving Allstars but I am sure now he made the right one when things like this happen. Loyalty counts highly but apparently not at Allstars or maybe with the Dunfords. I have always been one of Allstars biggest fans but they lost a lot of respect with this2 points

Everyone knows that the hardest time for horse owners is the period between purchasing/breeding and up until the first win. How has this increased helped them? $7,000.00 maiden races when the bill each month varies between $1500.00 and $2500.00 and they wonder why there are few new owners wanting a horse. Do the maths.2 points -

That's interesting. I would have thought the depth of the field was a better indication of the races strength. Dropping the Wellington Cup to G3 seems a bit harsh to me. Mind you, if they keep the prize money at a reasonable level, they are going to continue to attract the same type of horse who has been lining up when it was G2. It's still the race won by Great Sensation and Castletown, Owners will likely remain keen to have their horses name alongside those on the Cup.1 point -
I think at the end of the day you look at all three: Pedigree, Type, Performance, I do however know an Australian trainer that has two advisor's one looks purely at pedigree the other on type. As for temperament well some believe a lot of that comes from the mare, even though it is well documented around certain stallions/lines so that is an assessment made on pedigree or knowing said stallion. This year I have taken pedigree advice from someone I respect and although there were several choices of stallion I have chosen the ones that complement the mares physically but....then the phenotype/genotype equation comes in - complicated really. No magic bullet otherwise every breeder would be producing Group1 winners. I'll let you know how I get on. Regards1 point
