1. The only people who refer to Coleman as "The King" are the commentators on Trackside. I presumed that they were being ironic, but maybe he is referred to as the King by the TAB, rather than the punters. Before the normal cacophony of how many derby winners have I ridden etc I would point out that i do not describe myself as the king of anything except my domain. Have a look at his two rides today so far. King? You are having a laugh.

  2. ...has emulated his Grandfather the late great Johnny Grylls 33 years later! By winning the first race at Tauranga today aboard Twickenham... Craig Grylls raced to victory in the exact same colours worn by his grandfather J F Grylls who carried them to victory at Te Rapa in 1982 aboard Kotare Boy! Twickenham is trained by Gary Moorehead at Matamata a grandson of the late Harold Ryan who incidentally was the trainer of Kotare Boy 33 years earlier in the same colours. History Repeats! 3. So many riders in the stands, if the track don't suit the horses way of racing why change it?? You guys did your money big deal...this is not a site for poor losers to come and bag jockeys..OK??

  4. How cringe worthy was Aron White last week. Must be on commission to say "The King" 51 times per race day. Makes a change from calling Todd Mitchell the "Wizard" seven times in one race alone. Nine times if you count just prior to the start and just after the finish.

Clover Don was trying to get away from the starter's assistant and was sideways on when Peter Lamb let them go, with the result that the horse just stood there. Why was he not declared to have not received a fair start? If he was being unruly for a time then he should have been sent to the outside. This starter is a joke and has been for years.

Don't know whether Pete is good or bad as a starter, only a driver could tell you that, but often my gripe with Southern starts is the army of "assistants" that standing among the horses at "riiiight" time. Surely these people are there simply to attend to any gear problems or to assist the horses to start to move forward. Once they have done what required, they should scarpa from the scene and the starter whoever he may be should insist on this. If a horse wont stand reasonably or come forward (mobiles) then surely it should be returned to the workouts to sort out whatever problem it has. A good trainer in my books is one who has the horse properly educated before it even gets to the races.

Agree. P. Lamb the worst starter in NZ and the worst I have seen i over 45 years in game. He should be sacked!

  8. Yes it has not gone unnoticed that Howie has a far superior win / loss ratio when selecting for other team members. Perhaps we need to harness this and next week we could look at getting Gruff to pick under Howies avatar and vice-versa? I will pass this by Logistics and if see HR is in agreement .....

  9. Great post Scooby.I backed both Roger and Fascination Street. No complaints about Michael.Do disgruntled punters think he arrived at Tauranga today with the intention of brassing punters off in the first two races? If you answer yes you should pursue another hobby!

  11. The pylons were brought in to improve safety in racing but for the life of me I hadn't seen too many go over the hub rail in 50 years of watching harness racing when they were in place. Sure there were some bad examples but generally the horse was taken hold of or checked. With todays rules it makes a mockery of the inside running line. You only have to prove that the one outside you was lugging in and causing the horse to run down over the markers and you automatically gain an advantage. Either make the running of the inside of the markers completely illegal regardless of the interference rule or do away with the JCA discretion because it is turning into a real dogs breakfast for the punting public!

The stipes report on Clover Don states that a warning be placed on his standing start record, and this for a horse which has a 56.17.13 record for standing starts. I can also remember many times when out of the money he started ok. The stipes are obviously covering up for not declaring an unfair start. Master Lavros broke at the start also, and has more often than not galloped away in recent times but no warning on his record.

A deliberate move by the driver to cut the corner and therefore gain an advantage. Shocking decision which rates up there with the Rogerson gallops decision from 4 or 5 weeks ago. These JCA personnel should be replaced.

  19.
You guys have little idea... hell the first one sat back as they jumped and was slow to go and if he had pushed the head off it to get handy you would have still been bleeting.... the 2nd one had every possible chance and was not good enough...its action did not look too flash..maybe it was to heavy to carry... geez some of you need to learn they are not robots... they are horses.

  24. Howie, can I pass on the bananas mate. Kermadec in the last was a moral beaten I must say. This drought must break soon. Had a talk to bro in Hurricanes headquarters as we watched the last, he gives his regards and patted me on the back for my efforts to derail your championship hopes.

  25. It never ceases to amaze me that the bagging of jockeys is so rife on this site. The Gate Pa track is a very odd shape and a lot of horses don't cop it the first time they race there.Roger in the first simply did not cop it.Senseless blaming MC.Even Kawi one of the most promising horses in N.Z. went down albeit narrowly in his first start on the track. As for Fascination Street she is a professional placegetter as her form suggests. 13 starts.2/4/5.Even Lester or Frankie would not have won on her today!

  26. Well done Turbos sorry you didn't find that Joker fortitude Brian.. but perhaps you are saving it for next week when the winning margin and points on offer are much better ! Beaut contest today Jase thanks .. it took us to the last... before I made a real impact .. heh.. had to say it Only Maria found the Japanese winner in the last and was able to reel in Jason and reduce the Turbos margin from 4-1 to 3-2. The Manawatu mob were 5-0 up with two to go so they might come to regret dropping those two bonus points in the last 2 races. Man of the Match honours went to Kay for a $500+ tally while Maria was the Waikato MVP. I'll pass up the more deserved honours of MVP to Jack Well done J and well done Team.. we seem to have some beaut efforts.. just never on the same day .. but it's all good prep work for the main event.... and now we own the Cellar.. drink up and enjoy the spoils.. it's not a bad place to be .... and roll on autumn and winter Next week.... it's my home town team lads... the Canes.... let's give them a right royal rark up as a send off....

  27. I say let them go inside as many pegs as they want to. Then set them back say, a length for every peg they cut inside. Cut inside 3 pegs, and you're automatically set back 3 lengths. I think we'd quickly see a new found respect for the peg line!

  28. Their conquerors the Crusaders made up two places with their win and take a Joker into their final round contest. The Kats defeat cost them 2nd spot, dropping to 3rd as they were passed by the marauding Barbarians whose win took them up 3 places and they look every inch finals outfit. The Turbos won but the two points they let slip in the last two races could have seen them going into the final round in 2nd spot while their victims the Chiefs remain in the cellar. Defeats for the Ferdies and the Joker-playing Stags cost them two places each while the Blues win elevated them one spot and left them with a slim chance of still making the Finals. Lastly the Highlanders enjoyed a good win and still have an outside chance of qualifying also. Timmy trumpets 25.46 on Thursday sets him up for a win, however, after his antics that day whilst boxing he is now a box first dog so hopefully that doesnt affect his huge ability to jump and go. I might add I do believe the connections were really hard done by with that box first call, normally you will get a couple of chances before they enforce the box first rule, I've seen way more blatant breaches lately with absolutely no penalty or warning.

Oh so wonderful to see overnight in dear old Oz a Vet has come forward and admitted he supplied cobalt to certain trainers. Allegedly all this is because a parcel was wrongfully delivered and the shit hit the fan. This now opens the way for charges, and the rightful damning of these bastards. Oh you bloody beauty. BTW, under the rules of racing in Oz, it is an offence to have cobalt in your possession, so this crap about feeding supps, therefore the reading, oh,....pleeeease.
